    Whisky.com tastes the Glenfiddich 15 years Solera.
    The "Solera" is a special procedure to mature sherry in Spain. The same procedure is carried out at Glenfiddich. Also for this bottling there are also fresh casks as well as ex-sherry casks.
    The nose:
    vanilla, fruit and a hint of spice
    The taste:
    very spicy, very strong and dry fruitiness
    The finish:
    Long and enduring

      I have to agree and for some reason I do prefer the 15 more than thr 18 year.
      I wonder if anyone else shares the same experience, but for me the 18 almost felt too 'charred' which removed some complexity.
      I find the 15 to be the perfect balance between a softened edge compared to a younger 12 but still full of character in comparison to thr 18.

    I get vanilla and sweet apricots on the nose, with some definite coffee and bitter dark chocolate on the palette. The finish is smooth and long. The chocolate develops more and more on the finish. Very nice scotch.

    I really like the 15 year old solera. It I could only afford one single malt for every-day dram, it would be this. It's quite rewarding, and I find it much smoother than the 12. My every-day blended scotch dram would have to be JWBL.Luckily, I can afford more than one choice, but if pressed to drink only, I would be satisfied with this as my single malt.

    Thank you for your reviews. I find them very entertaining and especially helpful. After having started with Johnnie Walker Red then Black Lable, I then started with the Glenfiddich malts. I started with the Glenfiddich 12 and then the 15 year old (Solera). Once I'm finished with the Solera what is your suggestion on another single malt I should consider trying next? Thanks in advance! - Sam :)

    • @Whiskycom
      @Whiskycom  9 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I would move forward with the Glenfiddich 18yrs, as long as it is still affordable. And it is very satisfying to taste two or more different bottles in parallel. But be sure to finish all bottles in 12 months time. Otherwise there is a small chance, that the whisky may be influenced through oxidization. Glenmorangie, Balvenie and Aberlour may also by single malts which should fit into this range.
      Probably you may be interested in smoky whisky as well? It is a completely different experience. Try to find a miniature first. Otherwise you may be frustrated if you do not like this kind of whisky at all. Laphroaig 10yrs or Ardbeg 10yrs may be a very intense starting point. If you do not like them - then you know, that smoky whisky is not yours.

    Since they use the solera system, does anyone know how old the oldest whisky in the cask could be? With rum, when they use the solera system they often give you the actual range. For example, Zacapa 23 uses the solera system, and has rum ranging from 6 to 23 years old. So this Glenfiddich is 15 to ? (I'd love to know)

    • @matthewdee3549
      @matthewdee3549 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I heard that the last time they fully emptied their solera vat was 1996, making the oldest possible molecules 26 years old (or 24 when you wrote this lol)

      Have u tried a whiskey before? If not then id start with a Glenfiddich 15,14 or a Cragganmore,Dalwhenie if you want something rather aromatic sweeet. If ud like to try something peatier id suggest the Talisker Destillerie Edition or a Lagavulin 16. If you want blended whiskey id start with a Johnnie Walker Gold or even Black if u dont want to spend like 50€+.
