  • Episode 339. Andy gave me a sample of an older release of Glenfiddich 15, and I wanted to try it against the current expression. Have you had older Glenfiddich 15? This isn't as old as perhaps it could be, but the comparison was still fun. Thanks for the chance Andy! #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour

    I actually really like this one too Jon, like you I wish it was released at a higher strength but even at 40% I found it had lots of flavour and a surprisingly good mouth feel. I intend to always have a bottle in my cupboard as I find it's a good goto whisky when you just want something with nice flavours that you can you just sit back and relax with plus its nice and affordable when on offer. Thanks for the review. 👍

    This was a fun experience! I totally agree on your tasting notes. I found the newer to be a bit more drying and had more of a nutmeg spice to it. I personally prefer the older dram with a slight touch more of fruit and oils. Thanks for putting this review together and sharing with us!

      Very cool to have the chance. We agree on nutmeg! These were really close to call for me, thanks again for sharing! Enjoy the week

    Great comparison! And nice to see that we are not always loosing out with the new bottles!
    I recently got my hands on some 70s Glenfiddich and brought it to a blind tasting with some whisky friends. It had a lot more phenolic body than the usual Glenfiddichs and no one came close to guessing it - some were even guessing Mortlach which says a lot ;)
    Love the solera too - very neat idea - and this bottle in particular smells amazing.

      I wonder if the "dusty" here is just not going back far enough. A 70s Glenfiddich?! I would love to have tried that one. Thanks for sharing some thoughts!

    Haven't had the older solera bottle, but I'm happy to sit with the current 15. It's a nice relaxing dram when I don't want to be too challenged by the whisky. It's also quite reasonably priced, so can't complain too much.
    Agree on the presentation though, I wish they'd add 3 to 6 % to the ABV. 😉

      This bottle is one of the few 40%, chill and coloured expressions that I genuinely enjoy. I know it's not integrity, but it is good whisky in my book. Glad you can enjoy it too. I hope your week starts well!

      Thanks, this was fun. I had expected a greater difference, but still worth trying!

    Very cool you got to do this. The 15 is great and I too have been just looking for sales to go on. It gets expensive the more you get into this hobby. Cheers Jon 🥃

    Thanks for the review! I love the Glenfiddich 12 and really want to try the 15 and 18, but at 40% ABV, chillfiltered and coloured there's just too much other whisky out there thet I'd rather buy. So let's hope the people in charge of Glenfiddich watch your channel and follow your suggestion, because it's a good one. If Glenlivet can do it with their Illicit Still 12 yo, why can't Glenfiddich?
    Edit: typo.

      Right!! They could easily release this one properly. Sure, they would charge a little more, but i think it would be worth it. Even at 40% and chill filtered, i enjoy it. Thanks for dropping in. Cheers!

    My stocks from 1995-2005 are ALWAYS darker and has more sherry in each release : the pioneering ex-bourbon bottles were met with great skepticism , tho i STILL prefer old ex-bb stock over present day bottlings.

      Maybe this is younger than 2005 then, because the Sherry, for me, did not shine in the older bottle. Still fun!

    I’m honestly not a fan of Glenfiddich, but that sounds quite good :)

      The 15 is one of the only 40%, chill filtered , colored Drams I enjoy!

    A great whisky for beginners but the 40 abv isn't good for flavour

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair, but I do not mind this one. Even at the low abv, there is good flavors to find here.

    I have the older discontinued Glenfiddich 15 year DE, at 51% ABV, NCF. Ok, but not memorable.

      @WhiskyNeighbour  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      51% and NCF?! How is that only OK? That should be fantastic. Too bad it is not better. Thanks for sharing.
