Whisky .com reviews the Johnnie Walker Green Label. The 15-year-old Green Label was taken in 2012 from the market. Because global customer demands Diageo decided to bring in 2016 the popular whisky back on the market. Green Label is the only blend of Johnnie Walker which is done only from single malts.

So many Whisky tasting channels on TH-cam. Some are complete bafoons, some attempt to be exquisite and sophisticated. Horst is bar none my most respected. Thank you for your channel. Been watching for days now.

This the original mate
Horst is the most bang for your buck, so to speak. Completely unbiased with his reviews, and very knowledgeable about the craft of making and tasting whiskey
Ralfy too
Yes, I'm agreeing with the comment below, Horst totally absolutely knows what he's doing. He's great. He's a professional. His son Ben is awesome also. The two of them make a fantastic team. We all should feel fortunate that Horst and Ben make these videos for us. Thanks!
Let it not go unsaid, Horst is the Werner Herzog of tasting. I feel like I'm understanding the grand expanding horizons of flavours and the collective taste of our mortal existence whenever I watch these videos.
Great comment 💯
Opened my bottle of Green Label today. And man o man was it good. I really enjoyed it and went down smooth. Didn’t burn as much as the black.
Dollar for dollar, my favourite whisky. Outstanding value for your money.
What have you tried out in the same price range? Which whiskys are you comparing to this one?
@@groberti well ill just say i bought a blue label and a green label and I cant tell why theres such a big gap in price
@@Hoodratliker Thanks for the info! I had a thought that there would not be such a bring difference, I guess the Blue label is for prestige
Euro for Euro my favorite whisky
Outstanding value for the money.
Is your avatar Alex?
This is very likely the best example of a great whisky review ever.
Finally tried this one and was impressed. Best blend I’ve tried so far.
the best out of the whole line?
Green label is the most underrated whiskey out there
I like it better than the blue.
Hate to be this guy but:
Whisky*
Not whiskey
@@jimmy2k4o Don't be that guy then.
@@jimmy2k4o Actually,you're right...
@@ghackney9549 Id prefer the blue but when you take price into consideration, green wins.
I'm glad to hear this opinion. after buying a bottle myself I didn't agree with ralphy's assessment. so I'm glad to hear somebody more in line with what I tasted.
+Whisky Daddy I thought Ralfy was very unreasonable with his re-review of the new JW Green. I think its spectacular stuff and to my palate its still just as amazing as it always was.
I agree! I believe that the only way to get a true judgment is to do exactly what Horst did here and have a side-by-side comparison. Otherwise it's just too hard to bank on your memories.
Whisky Daddy Yeah i've been drinking JW Green either side of its hiatus and unless there's people out there who have an extremely advanced palate over mine, I have to say there's literally no difference between the old and the new. They're still using exactly the same core malts and it still retains its age statement (which sadly i can't say is true for the gold label reserve)
Whisky Daddy and fair enough Whiskies change over time, casks change over time, peoples individual taste buds change over time and so on and so forth but honest to god JW Green still tastes the same as it always did....
+Whisky Daddy I agree with both Ralphy's review, and Horsts review. Both seem correct to me. I always feel that way (sort of kidding, almost, sort of not kidding).
Just tried this for the first time in 2021. Really good for the price. IMO the best value in the Johnny lineup.
FINALLY... been waiting to hear Horst stiff on that Green Label and let me know what the deal is!
First whisky i ever bought!! Still in my top 3 and always v happy to get a new bottle
In Croatia on my graduation trip I took picture of this whiskey on a shelf next to blue label. My best friend and me, we said: "someday when we will marry our better halves we will drink this". Well he got his blue label this August and I got mine last week but for buying tesla model S :) after 15 years exactly how old this whiskey is and exactly how much time has passed :)
Absolutely love your reviews sir. when i want to try a new whisky i make sure Horst has reviewed it first.
It's now £45 they definitely listened to you horst . Totally agree this one is a outstanding blend .
On offer at UK Tesco at the moment, so £35 for now.
@@ianstobie now way I just got it for £45 from a whisky shop in central London.
@@constantinvaldor3742 it's back up to £45 in Tesco too now in England. Tesco seems to cycle through its Clubcard offers, with up to a dozen in the wider whisky category being on offer in larger stores at any given time. Apparently Scotland can have different prices because of some differences in alcohol laws.
"Probably somebody is listening, ahmmm", Horst went full Yoda there.
Thank you, your reviews are fantastic.
horst droppin the knowledge
with a whole leap of style and intelligency
Thanks for the review Horst. This is my favorite JW expression with the Black label. For me the Green label is a magnificent whisky value. Beautiful, rich, flavorful blend. I hope JW keeps it affordable and available forever, though I do agree the ABV should be at least 46%. I've got a 20cl bottle from about 10 years ago so I like the comparision idea.
+cato cato You're lucky. I bought several bottles of the new green label when it came out but i only wish i had some bottles of the old version because they're starting to go go for ridiculous prices on ebay lol
After watching this I simply have to go to find Green one, sounds divine!
excellent review of new and old. I have both old and new and have been drinking this for 18 years. My favorite JW expression.
Horst here is the best for a straight up review on youtube. When thinking on my next purchase definitely the first go to.
Green Label - Cragganmore at heart + Caloila at the end + Talisker for the kick........what a blend
I can find this for $60 US, best value in the Walker line up I think
If you can find this bottle, buy them all. It's really good whiskey for the price. Perfectly flavored and aged. I been buying it for year's and love it. Thanks for video
They will be good for years? Not in my house 🤣
Had one glass of this at a restaurant and it was amazing. Glad to hear it's coming back.
This blend is amazing! I love Talisker, and it is clearly evident in this blend. 5⭐
The Talisker is what makes it in my opinion.
that smokiness come from the talisker or from the caol in the green ??
OMG, just opened my bottle and that light smokiness, followed by that green jolly rancher - perfection in a bottle :)
Unintentional asmr
Fantastic review Horst, well done. I just bought this for my dad to introduce him to scotch. He's a bourbon drinker but would like to try other whisky.
This is a really good review of the Green as he compares the old with the new one.
JW Green & 18 are wonderful, complex, , available , affordable and very delicious . Single malts, matching their age statement, cost twice as much.
35 dollars on my military base in Germany, incredible blend
Dam that’s cheap, it’s 80 bucks here.....
Yup...
I appreciate this review. This is very useful information.
I found Green Label last year at a New Hampshire state liquor store and the unusual thing is this product was not on their web site, and all other bottles in the store were accurately detailed, including an online statement of number of bottles in each of the 50 (or so) stores statewide. (Something strange about the Green Label product.) I thought the Green Label was being discontinued and it had been removed from the computer. The bottles disappeared. Now the product is listed on the web site, plus appears in the store. I guess I got an early batch of the new product (not sure). The price then and now is $59.99 US Dollars and that is with a few dollars off, a sale price. (Half the bottles of Scotch are listed on sale, a few, up to five dollars off.)
For many other Scotch product I have noticed a US Dollar price close to the Euros or Pound price that you or others in the UK cite (ignoring any exchange rate the numbers have been close, in these different units). In this case you quote a much lower price, possibly reflecting the exchange rate, I'm not sure. Interesting.
Please excuse all the detail I provide... I'm an Engineer (this is natural, and almost unavoidable for us).
Thank you very much, bought a bottle of green, very excited.
Just bought this a few days ago, worth every penny! I have black and blue (200 ml), haven't opened the blue yet would like to save it for a special occasion.
Thank you for the explanation...!!! I really wanted to know more about this whisky
Looking forward to trying this one, sounds absolutely wonderful....I only hope my pallette is good enough to pick up all these flavours
So far my favorite blend!
Horst I am a big fan and love your videos I have learned a lot from them. I'd rather have the green than the platinum or gold any day.
I love the educational aspect of these reviews. Thank you so much!
Last night taste it for first time and wow 😮 I’m amazed how nice can taste 35 euro bottle green label really really nice whisky 🥃 I give 8 out of 10
So, basically. There are three different versions of this. The 07-12 version (43%, rounder bottle) the Version Re-released is 2015/2016 (43%, Square bottle, thick base) And the now newest Version (40%, Green/white label) seems like the middle version is the best!
horst is so professional, and presentation fantastic
When I first tried it, I wasn't impressed by it. But after 20 bottles of differnt whisky, I think I need to try this again, and yes, it is great.
Have you ever been tasted red label ?how do you think about it.
Great review, You can’t go wrong with the old JW green!
~17:05 = Yes, they listened...now it is more expensive. Love JW Green and Horst's reviews!
I always enjoy when Horst dissects and dispels the bullshit in the marketing copy.
my fovourite whisky green label
JW Green is my favorite of the JWs. My personal opinion is it's the best taste for the price. JW Blue is great, sure, but not for its price IMO. Green is worth every penny.
£30 in UK supermarket at the moment. Bought 2 bottles.
For me JW Green Label finishes with a taste that ranges from dark chocolate to espresso, like a pleasant bitterness.
Excellent and informative review as always, Horst! Thank you so much.
I agree the botles I have had of this have been amazing, and probably using whiskies up to about 20 years of age, a real post-boom classic
I remember when this stuff was $45, nothing would even come close to the flavor and complexity of the Green, for the price. Then it was $70 and the fun was over.
It's still under $50 at places like Total Wine. If you're being charged $70 you're getting ripped off
Found it for $54 around New Years Eve!! Keep lookin!
Sorry for newbie question. How do they age this whisky. Are all the different malts put in a barrel and then aged 15 years? Thanks
That is a very complex question to answer in one youtube comment. If you want to know all the differences between maturation, we would recommend our knowledge homepage whisky.com. Here is a link to an overview of the whisky production: www.whisky.com/information/knowledge/production/details.html
Thanks for this review I just ordered a 1 Litre.
Thank you! Cant wait to try it.
Don't bother. This is overrated in my opinion by single malt snobbery. I would spend my money on a gold label for the same price or the double black label if you want to stay within the johnnie walker range.
@@fantocheyo Thank you! I generally prefer single malt for flavour...and have been impressed by Japanese. I'm a newbie though :-)
I first had this whisky somewhere between 2009 and 2011 and it was fantastic, I'd say the best of the JW labels bar none (I was at the time experimenting and tried them all). I recently picked up another bottle now in 2020 and it pales in comparison to what I had then. I didn't know about them halting production on it, but it seems that the old bottle here represents when the quality was declining due to certain blending whiskys becoming impossible to find. Sadly, I believe the new green is a shadow of it's former self. The comparison here is misleading, I'd really love to see a side by side with Green when it was at it's height.
Though I have had green label Johnny Walker and it is great I personally like Duggins Dew scotch whiskey! My question is do major scotch distillers like Johnny Walker's sell whiskey to distillers like Duggins Dew and your really drinking Johnny Walker or is it a combination blend of different fine whiskey distillers ????
Purchased Green label after this video and watching it again while sipping the green label. Happy with it. Dean Martin, green label & dark chocolate. What else could you ask for? :)
I used to get this at Costco at $45. Have not seen it there in many months now. Around $52 at other places around here.
Great work Horst. Cheers
Great review Horst! Keep up the great work!
65$ US dollars for 1 750ml if I'm not mistaken. I'm almost pretty sure when you double the euro vs U.S currency, you are almost always dead on with the exact price. If course I had to double check and look it up, but over the years that I've compared U.S and Euro currency are comparable by just doubling the amount. It would be in numbers not actual value of course. Love your knowledge and explanations of the variety of flavors and aroma of the alcohol because it gives me a better perspective and gives me a better decision on whether to go one direction over the other. However if anyone says one label is better than the blue label, your head needs examined. The green is very diffrent but it just cant touch the blue labels special flavor haha.
How long would you say it is ok to have a bottle on its side? Thanks.
43$ Here in Lebanon... Not bad Considering Shipping and customs duty... Good Dram Though I prefer the Douglas Laing Blended Malts. Thank Your For your review Horst. When will you be doing a review for "The Epicurean"?
Here in morocco Casablanca I got it from special promotion sales for 56 USD and it usually cost 68 USD. You are lucky you have less taxes in Lebanon
Green Label is the best value. It's one of my favourite whiskies. I'd say it's really smooth, floral, citrus, not sweet, but oily, tastes expensive, I'd almost call it refreshing. Perhaps Speyside style whiskey. Yes smoke. Very easy to drink. Can't go wrong with this bottle. Although it sucks that at least here in Canada the price has gone up drastically in the past couple of years. Like 30% in just a year or two. wtf.
yeah Horst mentions "30 dollars/pounds/Euros" in the video, I googled Green Label and it's $110 at LCBO
@@LMW87MMA It's probably a good thing this doesn't cost $30 because I'd become a fucking alcoholic lmao.
I'm intrigued by this and the Gold Label, so did a search to see if Johnnie Walker sell any taster kits. Unfortunately the only one I could find was one that (for some reason) also had Blue, and was therefore going for upwards of £90(!). Suppose I'll just have to hope to see it in a bar sometime.
I was elated when they decided to bring it back to the market.
my all time favorite whiskey
Green is the best of Johnnie
I agree...certainly the best value...
Thank you for your review
I got mine for just €25,- (on sale)
Have to say I really love it. Far superior to a Blue Label.
I doubt it
Phenomenal review ,im stunned
I wish they sold this in 1L bottles like they did the old ones. Kinda liking that they used Gold reserve's bottle for Green.
My favourite Johnny walker (blended malt) whiskey. For me is much better than blue label. Smoothness and liquid pleasure in a bottle.
Brilliant. My first time trying this. I've tried a few Japanese whiskys and some of the lower down Johnnie Walkers and I've heard mixed things about the green label. Very impressed upon first taste. I managed to get a large bottle for only £26.90 and I think it's a bargain for that price. Annoyed I didn't grab a few more while it was cheap. Highly recommend. Question- do you know why the J W 18 yr is so cheap at the moment? Seems to sell for around £60 everywhere but when I look at price points it always says it's worth £150-£200...did I miss something?
£23 !!???? I just bought one from Morrison's at £30 and that was £10 off. Do you mind me asking where did you buy it ?
@@JuanAndresLanza apologies...I was wrong in my recall...was £26.90 from Amazon when on offer. Still reduced but £30 same as Morrisons. I wouldn't be disappointed..£30 is ridiculously good price for this considering the taste. Happy Christmas and enjoy your tipple
Great winter scotch
just bought one, thanks!
Nice with tiny bit of water to take the edge off that whisky burn .
In late July 2023, a bottle of this whisky costs $75 in Virginia.
Thank you for your review. We all have different approaches. Please let me allow mine. I simply cannot drink simple stuff such as JW red. My approach is that I want fine scotch (not averse to a bourbon too) but I simply cannot afford what apparently is the high end stuff. So my takeaway is this: please let us know what are the best value low price drops and what are the best value mid-price stuff.
Good quality at reasonably prices!
Great review! I wonder, since it says 15 years on the label, then the talisker, craggenmore have to be the 15 year old versions or higher, don't they?
Robert Horovitz yes, sir!
My understanding of the blend is that, they are all mixed ages, then put into the barrels and aged for 15 years. But I could be wrong.
@@alanjbennett3733 No, it means that it is a blend of whiskies, each being at least 15 years old. There is no ageing *after* the whiskies are blended.
Wish I bought it back when it sold for $57 in Ontario...current price is $80.
$60 in Alberta
Price will keep going up do to inflation. Might grab another bottle. Platinum isn't being made with the nice box anymore either and not called Platinum its just 18 yrs old.
80USD? I saw it for 42 EUR (52 USD) in the supermarket yesterday.
Dam..... 45 in NC
Mario nah 80$ Canadian. That's like 65$ US
Horst it would be great if you can review it again, 4, 5 years later I find the current quality is not the same as your review
No one comes close to this guy when reviewing scotches hands-down he's by far the best this review is terrific spot on
I have serious question for you , the green label was called before - a single malt for a short time ?
In the USA it goes for around $ 50
Best JW in my book
+Jay John Easily the best JW... so much better than the blue label
+Jay John $70 in my state. Too bad there's so much variation in price! I would grab a bunch at $50.
JA M $79 here in Aus where i am
+JA M I would have. But others beat me to the punch. All was gone by next time I stopped by at Costco. I will check the other costcos. The best price online I found at "missionliquor dot com" for &54. Best of luck to you.
Norman Singh Yeah thats an awesome price Dan Murphys have it on the members offer this week for $62
Got a bottle recently and was not very impressed. Had been wanting yo try for a while. Maybe the older one would have suited me better. Although i will say i needed to add a touch of water as its almost 46abv which did help open it up.
miss the green
Man oh man how prices have changed for the JW Green Label. Currently right now it is $66 USD per bottle.
That sucks. Here in west Europe U can Find it for €30.95 euros. So thats about $34 dollars. Curious how long it takes before prices rize Here in Europe
Which one do you recommend me to try first? Black or Green label?
Green.... Some times black label seems to be too "strange" for a begginer JW taster
thanks :)
I did a review on the Island Green on my channel. you should see it
Green is my favorite and blue
Does keeping the opened bottle upright as opposed to on it's side save the liquid from evaporating as fast?
if the bottle is stored vertically I suppose there's less surface area open to the air, so would likely prevent evaporation to an extent compared to on its side? Just guessing I don't actually know lol
Since the alcohol is in higher concentrations in whisky storing on its side would lead to the deterioration of the cork. Never do this. Always store upright and out of the sun
How would storing it sideways make any difference whatsoever? There’s definitely elements of the emperor’s new clothes in this connoisseur racket.
It's $75 where I am in Chicago! How would you compare it to the more expensive JW blends like Gold and Platinum? Oh man, I was watching some reviews yesterday as I tried Johnnie Walker Platinum for the first time and was thinking and wondering when the Green Label would show up. Here it is :D
+HybridEnergy Green kicks both Gold and Platinum's asses to hell and back.... Platinum label is just a scotch that's basically designed for people who don't drink scotch and Gold Label is just marketed as the sort of scotch you'd buy people as a gift. I have to say out of JW's entire core range the green label is the one that truly stands tall. black label is also very good value for money but for that little extra quality definitely go the green
+HybridEnergy I am also in CHI and I have seen it for $57 at Marianos!
+Alvin Black III I'll make a trip to Marianos soon and see if I'm lucky to see it for a lower price. Thanks for the tip!
+HybridEnergy it was the one downtown specifically, near the Aon building
Rarely less that $60 in California...
