Hi all. Only comment on this I'm going to make. The judges did pull me aside and do an investigation and brought this match to my attention. The 1st error regarding the Nowhere to Run was a sequencing error, the black source was turned on post combat by the surveil land. The 2nd error was simply bad. I had so many lands in my hand I think at the time it hadn't occured to me that I played one at the very beginning of the turn as usually I wait to play my lands to avoid giving away information (which is how the 1st error happened) No excuses here neither one should have happened and I should have received 2 GRV's resulting in a game loss. There was no malicious intent here whether or not that's believable or not. I am at least grateful it had no meaningful impact on the match upon rewatching. If you see this Philip Marschall I do apologize. I've been playing this game competitively for 20+ years and am embarrassed that this happened.

John Cuvelier cheated twice to win vs Philip. At 1:00:30 he plays a nowhere to run with no black mana available.
At 1:14:45 he plays a land and then 1 minute later on the same turn he plays a second land.
He should be dq'd but somehow no one, neither judges nor casters, noticed.

Great eye. Clearly intentional cheating, too. I really hate these "dual" lands that visually present as producing a color, but only do so conditionally. Personally I would make my opponent declare every mana produced by every land they tap. It's one of the most common forms of cheating and easy to miss when the board fills up.

At 1:00:30 the esper pixie player plays a nowhere to run with no black mana as the gloomlake verge didn’t tap for black just yet. They did play a surveil land after combat that made it tap for black but free info off a technically non castable spell.

Yea that’s wild, they play a land, cast a spell then proceed to play another land and crack map. Went from 5 lands to 7?!

That's actually the second time he cheated in the same match, he also played a nowhere to run on his mainstep 1 when he had no black mana available.

It's so disappointing that the judges just don't notice players cheating on camera.

SCG guys still seem a bit raggedy, both w/game play & tech issues, but most of the commentators have been doing most of the major MTG events of the last few years and have NO excuse...
