This is at a place where the arcade machines are broken. The only 2 levels are 255 and 256. The place is called 257.

Apparently a couple of you guys don't understand what is going on regarding this machine so let me give a bit of background on this entire situation since I was the one who shot this video to begin with. The reality is at the Level 257 Restaurant, there is a Arcade machine called "Pac-Man: Level 255". There are only two stages in the game. 255 and 256. (Which is why they named the Restaurant, Level 257. To symbolize the level after the unpassable level of 256.) This exclusive machine allows people to experience what it feels like to get to Level 255 and how to beat it. I was the one to ask Billy to he give a tutorial of the level to explain to people who have never or never will be able to get to the stage. I know there are a lot of Billy Mitchell haters out there thinking he is trying to promote himself but it was upon my request to help share that experience and information with everyone else. He took the time to share that information with everyone. Look guys... its a movie ok and anyone who is in the know, knows that they just demonized Billy because they needed a bad guy. That's fine, Billy played along with that for the sake of the film. This is why those who have met him in real life are confused as to why he is nothing like the film. That's because its a film and you meeting him in real life is real. Its unfortunate that people confuse whats on a screen to be real and what is in real life to be fake. Sadly that's the world we live in.
But the 256th board isn't clear is it? Nobody has been able to get passed it.
@EmpireArcadia, with all due respect, you should have asked questions such as:
1) For the glitched right part of the screen, are those garbage values the exact same everytime you reach level 256 or do they change randomly each time?
and 2) When pacman ate the power pellets on level 256, the ghosts don't trigger the scared effect running away, so can you still die if they touch you?
I mean c'mon ask these questions we're dying to know thx!
To be honest I can't answer for sure if those Garbage values are the same every time. When I played and watched Billy, they were. However this is not a normal PAC-MAN machine and the garbage values of the original PAC-MAN machine may differ. As for eating the energizer aka power cookie as Iwatani would call it, if you eat it at the same time you eat the ghost you will die. It does not turn the ghost blue or activate the scare affect. There isn't even 1 frame of blue or scare affect. It just turns them around.

I play Pac-Man and Pac Plus on my QVC Pac-Man Plis Arcade1Up cab. I played Pac when o was a young boy in the Arcades in the late 80's through the 90's when Arcades were boomin'!. Great times. I must say Billy is an amazing player tonsay the least. Watching his vids smh purely amazing to keep concentration for hours in one session. I am a slightly better than the average player at Pac amd Pac Plus. It's humbling watching Billy and players near / equal to that skill level.

+TheEnglishGamer111 That's not strictly true. Even if you are on an 8 bit machine you can store numbers larger than 255, notice his score is 19,030 at the start of the video. Also, even if you choose to use 8 bits to store the level counter you can have 256 playable levels without bugs.
Technical explanation:
Okay so, let's say you store your level counter in one byte (8 bits). You can have 256 playable levels (0 to 255) , so long as there aren't errors in your code the game won't "bug out" ... but once you beat level 255 it will wrap back around to 0, so you'll just be playing the same levels over and over. The problem with Pac-Man was that some of the code for showing the fruit in the bottom of the screen wasn't written with 0 in mind, so when you're on level 0 the game breaks because it tries to draw too many fruit.
If you want to store integers higher than 255 you can just store your integer using more than 1 byte. Allocating the space in memory is simple enough, so then you'd just have to look on your instruction set for detecting overflow (Read about Carry flags), after that it's just a matter of adding 1 to your high byte whenever an overflow occurs ----- It's like when you're adding two long numbers together on paper, you work right to left and only ever have to add numbers between 0 and 9, whenever the two numbers add up to 10 or more, you just write a 1 in the next column. Same thing with 8 bit hardware, but you're adding numbers 0-255 and whenever your numbers add to 256 or more you stick a 1 in the high byte and put the rest in your low byte.

he didn't cheat at all, he just used a emulator but didn't admit to using it which revoked his record although if he admitted to using the emulator he would've been fine.

it actually makes sense that it breaks at bord 256 since 255 is the last hexadecimal number you can get to without overflowing the memory back down to 0, but i guess they didn't think anyone would get there so they just let the game go to board 256 and break.
That's BS dude; 255 hex = 597 decimal. Besides, 'memory doesn't overflow'; the byte-value may overflow, but than again you can easily have 16 or even 32 bits numbers on 8 bit machines. Better read those Wiki-pages again ...
+Dawwwg Online Oh my... this is all sorts of wrong on so many levels. It doesn't matter if 255 in hex is 597 decimal, because 8 bit arcade machines do not use decimal. You are right in saying that some "8 bit" machines can store 16-bit or 32-bit integers, but the level counter is stored as an 8 bit integer and so this is irrelevant. A byte consists of 8 bits, and can be any value from 00-FF. FF in decimal is 255, and FF is the maximum value in hexadecimal, so if you add 1 to FF you can't get G0, so it "overflows" (loops) back to 00. In the case of Pacman level 00 is the junk data you see in the video.

To resolve this issue, the compare check for boards 1 thru 7 must come right after the round number is first loaded in A, because we are dealing with seven fruits.
(for round 1 thru 7)
LD A, (0x4E13) = load current round number into A
CP #7 = have we completed seven rounds?
JP NC, 0x2C2E = no, go to compute fruit table
INC A = increment A only for the first seven rounds
(for round 8 and up)
CP #12 = have we completed 19 rounds (7 keys)?
JR C, 0x2C34 = no, skip next step
LD A, #12 = otherwise treat A as round 19
SUB #6 = subtract 6 from current round number to point to object being drawn
(all values being checked are one less than the real numbers because A is not incremented until after the first compare check)

Dunno about the rest, but in _this_ case, Billy Mitchell ain't lyin'. Oh so terribly sorry, but he's just not, here. Both the 256th Round Glitch (@ 0:46) and the Hiding Spot (@ 0:07) have been known almost as long as _Pac-Man_ has been around, since almost 1980, now (as I type this) like 38 years and counting. So it's not like Mitchell is just now making this crap up, see.
IIRC, or more like if I kinda sorta recall somewhat correctly (from memory without Googling it as I type this Reply), the reason for the 256th Round Glitch is because of something about 32 bytes being 256 bits (256 bits ÷ 8 [8 bits = 1 byte] = 32 bytes), each bit numbered 0 to 255. After the number 255, the next bit should rollover back to 0 and not to 256. Thus the computer/game gets, so to speak, perplexedly confounded and confused off its consecutively numeric memory-map, resulting in the famous glitch.
I guess the original programmer(s) of _Pac-Man_ never expected that anyone would ever clear that many Rounds to then discover, to the dismay of everybody, probably also the programmer(s) no less, that 256th Round Glitch. But oh fortunately yes, thereafter it would be standard for game-programmers to prevent such a glitch in advance in pretty much _all_ future coin-op arcade video-games since it turned out that gamers really could actually be that damned good at the games the game-makers would make.

It's not a 'film' as you say....it's a documentary....depicting real life. It was publicized as a documentary, and it's form is that of a documentary. Billy is not depicting a persona. He's depicting the douche bag he is. There is a 12 yr old kid in a SF arcade in 1982 that achieved the split screen ON CAMERA!!!! .....lol. 17 years before this hack.

Dude has lots and lots of evidence on how he didn't beat pacman. Just yesterday it was proven that he used a modded machine to get the world record on donkey kong on, even though you had to use a original machine to consider it to be real. He also made this pac-man feat his whole personality, suing anyone who claims he did not beat pac-man and he also tried to sue Regular Show for making fun of him. This guy is a joke.
He is the joke of jokes but in a fucked up way. He pulls people into his big scheme and costs them tens of thousands in lawyer fees while wasting everyone's time.
