I thought of a 5-player variant of this game. One player is Pac-Man, while the rest are ghosts. The turn order is Pac-Man, Blinky, Pinky, Inky, Clyde. (They are red, pink, blue, and orange respectively for you people who don't know which name goes to which color.) Pac-man rolls 3 dice, while the ghosts roll one die. As a ghost, you are unable to turn around 180 degrees at any time unless Pac-man has grabbed a power pellet on his last turn. You can pass other ghosts' spaces, but you cannot land on the same space as another ghost. Determine your path ahead of time to avoid this! When you catch Pac-man, he loses one of his 3 lives and you are the MVP of the round. If Pac-man eats all the dots on the board, he wins. If Pac-man runs out of lives before all the dots are eaten, the ghosts win.
It does look like a good decoration. I could see Pac-Man being placed on an office desk… people randomly pressing it to play the pellet eating sound effect. 😄
I can see that as a possibility. 😄 …but I thought it was fun. When giving a board game as a gift, it depends on the recipient. I like this game because I like Pac-Man. I think the design of the game is great. The figurines are cute and I like the little cutouts. So adorable! Thinking of other board games, I prefer Risk rather than Monopoly, because I think Monopoly is not as fun as the strategy of Risk. And currently, Connect 4 is the #1 board game on Amazon. Connect 4 is a nice game. But right now, I like Pac-Man more. (Although, wow, Connect 4 is an even cheaper gift. Currently at $7.49.) Candy Land was ranked high, but I think The Game of Life is more fun. That one wasn't even in the top 50. It was ranked #72.
I could see that too if you play on a computer or arcade. The gameplay is slower. Still, Pacman is loved, so I suppose people will enjoy it for the novelty.
@@PhoticsTV it feels like they used the same game plans as the old board game of the 80s (with the ugly Pac-scooper and Marbles), but changed it to be clean-up friendly. Imagine if the Donkey Kong board game is given the same treatment, but the character art is based on the 1994 Game Boy game.
That's what's nice about board games. They're usually not too expensive. Although, I got this one when it was on sale. It was around 20% off… a little over $15. I checked Amazon, and the game is not on sale right now. However, Tetris was discounted, and that board game video should be on Photics.TV soon. 🙂
Reminds me of the monopoly arcade pacman board, comes with a little arcade cabinet where when you pass go you play pacman for a few seconds and use the points to purchase levels, you also have coins to insert into it to keep track of players
I remember having the Hasbro version from 1982 which had four plastic "Pac-Men", two ghosts of a random plastic color, a bag of marbles, the game board, and instruction sheet. It was pretty sweet for the time.
I had this Pac Man board game when I was about 10 years old back in the 80s made by Milton Bradley. My version of it had white marbles for the dots along with 4 yellow marbles that were the power pellets. You moved Pac Man over the dots putting them inside Pac Man to clear them away. I think the version I had as a kid was much better than the one in this video.
I just read the instructions again and I didn't see anything about bonuses or penalties for rolling triples or rolling a maximum roll. In other words, it's not like Monopoly when you roll doubles. 😄
This does seem like a game I'll put in storage, but then maybe play it again later. Except, there's a battery in Pac-Man. I haven't removed it yet, but I've been thinking about doing that. Buffalo Games did a nice job with Pac-Man. I don't want to accidentally break it.
Based on what I've seen in the comments here, and in the reviews on Amazon, people either think it's fun or it's boring. 😄 I think it's a cute game. Just yesterday, I was walking down the board game aisle and I was looking for something as fun (or even more fun) than this board game. Nothing looked that good… except that Connect 4 is a pretty cheap game.
I thought they were white marbles, but I wasn't sure. So I looked online. The pictures showed yellow dots on the board, but the marbles were white. That's the one from 1980s though. That's also the one with a creepy looking Pac-Man, with teeth. 😄
I remember there was an older version of this out in the 80s that friends of ours had an incomplete copy of, where you had four people playing as Pac Men rolling their hockey-puck shaped plastic guys around scooping up marbles, but the ghosts were similar. We had zero idea how to play it, but apparently it's on ebay.
I bought the 80’s version from an antique store last year for my son. It was fully intact and he plays it frequently with friends when they want something other than their typical euro games.
Of the board games recently reviewed on this channel, I might pick Pac-Man as the one to play first. It depends on the group of people though. I think Pac-Man the Board Game could be fun, especially during an outside barbecue on a not so windy day. If it's just two people, I might prefer Battleship or Connect 4. If it's 3-5 people, I think this game would be more fun than Monopoly. Although, I think something like Scrabble has greater replay value. Again, I think it depends on the group of people. The Tetris game could also be an alternative. I think that one was pretty good too. It can be challenging to get four people to sit still and be focused on something as slow paced as a board game. What's different about Pac-Man is how players can work together as the ghosts. That sounds like fun, but I haven't been able to get a game like that going. But considering how much it costs for a family of 4 to go out to a movie, Pac-Man is a cheaper alternative - even if they only play it once. 😄 I think that's the thing about board games. It's not so much about the game. Rather, it's about people getting together and playing together. That's nice! 🙂

The instructions say, _“When a ghost is eaten, the PAC-MAN player collects a Blue Ghost Token and places it in his score pile. Each Blue Ghost Token is worth 200 points!”_ …so it looks like those little disks are a way of keeping score. Ghosts are only 200 points each. Apparently, it's not 200, 400, 800, 1600, like in the arcade. And for fruit, it says, _“If a Fruit Card is drawn, then place a fruit token on PAC-MAN's start space.”_ Apparently, it increases in value during Pac-Man's turn. It goes like this… 🍒- 100 Points 🍓- 200 Points 🍊- 500 Points That's similar to the arcade, but strawberries are worth 300 in the arcade. The big points are from completing all the dots in one of the four sections, which is 800 points each. Although it says an alternate scoring is to count each dot as 40 points… for more arcade like experience. It also mentions rules for "Arcade Mode", where Pac-Man has three lives, rather than just one in the standard rules.
The instructions say… _“When PAC-MAN eats a Power Pellet, he becomes energized”_ energizer is what we called it back in the 1980s. It seems interchangeable, but the board game instructions does call them Power Pellets.
The marbles were cool. I think that's more fun. The yellow pegs have their advantages though, as it makes the game easier to reset. The marbles seem more likely to roll away and become lost. 😄
I'm not 100% sure I understood the rules, but I think the main problem was that Pac-Man just got two bad rolls. Although, that could also be part of the strategy of the game. In the arcade, I usually wait for the ghosts to get closer to the energizer. I didn't do that in the board game.
Do you mean Sonic The Hedgehog Crash Course? That game looks cute! I'm still testing out if Board Games are going to be a regular thing on the channel. The next one is a more portable version of Connect 4.
That's a way to improve the board game. I've only heard the Pac-Man figurine makes one sound effect… _“waka waka”_ …the munching a dot sound. It should make the game start melody and the sound when Pac-Man gets caught. When making the video for Tetris… th-cam.com/video/jWES2usUnqs/w-d-xo.html …I wanted to include background music, but I couldn't find the game. I thought I had Tetris for the original GameBoy.
