    No Joke, Mike.... I'm the host on my employers fairly large TH-cam channel and one day while filming a product intro - in the span of 30 minutes, I had a train, somebody shooting an assault rifle, a giant flock of blackbirds so loud you couldn't hear, and for the finalé, a 25 minute garage band drum solo directly across the street. Like Travis Barker level noise and cadence. Unreal 😂

    Specialized is killing it with all their new offerings. This Stumpy looks on point! Way to keep the weight down too, kind of silly to see these 130, 140mm rear travel bikes coming in at 32, 33 pounds.

    I am happy that we are talking about all these grams, when I have to lug a backpack of water that weighs nearly 2 kilos, and my own body weight which shows no signs of reduction. Maybe bike companies should look into marketing "Premium psyllium husk" for race day performance. But the bike looks gorgeous though.

    • @wuweiwilliam
      @wuweiwilliam 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Most likely that Specialized have conducted accelerated fatigue testing, perhaps in an environmental chamber as well, to validate the design.
      If any of you are familiar with Formula 1 design history, this reminds me of when John Barnard introduced the flex pivot for front suspension wishbones in place of traditional spherical bearings. Many doubters at first; it’s now common place!

    • @Jakes692
      @Jakes692 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It will be fine, carbon has ace fatigue characteristics in comparison to aluminium. Spesh will also have done fatigue analysis & rig tests 👍

    • @EnniodBleu
      @EnniodBleu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Waaay better than aloominum. Well laminated carbon composite essentially has unlimited fatigue life almost up to it's compression failure point. This flex stay barely flexes at all.
      (And, no, I'm not just an armchair expert on this ;-) )

    I'd love to hear how that rear flex works with a heavy rider. I've been riding the Transition Spur and I love it but I'm about 200 lbs, and when I lock out the rear it kind of does a weird oscillating thing when I'm grinding on it. My theory is that the Transition is tuned to an average weight rider, so it misbehaves a little under heavier stress. Wonder if this bike would behave similarly.

  • @bikestuffTV

    I got to ride this bike a couple weeks ago and oh man it's so much damn fun! Took the last model and just improved on everything, much stiffer, much more playful and pedals like bike that pedals real good!

      DMD Edits it looks like more of an XC bike now to me, pushing people wanting more of a burly trail bike towards the evo

    • @bikestuffTV
      @bikestuffTV 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@partyongarth0 Dont be warned off though because it's plenty capable, rode this one and the evo back to back on some really rooty and rocky northeast single-track and while the evo was faster I had more fun on this bike with its playfulness. Really had a hard time finding the limit on this bike where it starts to slow you down, any normal trail system or even all mountain style trail with long ups and fun downs would be great on this bike.

    • @pjsanab

      How does it compare to DW Link bikes like Ibis Ripley, Ripmo or Yeti’s Infinity Sb130 or Sb150?

    • @bikestuffTV
      @bikestuffTV 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@pjsanab I havn't ridden a dw link yet so I can't say much for that, what I've heard is the the dw is still a bit more effective but at this point we're talking small margins. I personally like it better than the infinity linkage system yeti uses, to me there feels like less play(stiffer rear end then yeti) and I'm a fan of less complexity as well. One thing for sure is the amount of side load on the shock is greatly reduced from the horst linkage and you can feel the difference

    • @partyongarth0
      @partyongarth0 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pjsanab I rode the ripmo before purchasing the 2019 stumpjumper and the ripmo felt like a bigger bike but not as plush. In fact the back end of the ripmo felt quite harsh over the small bumps almost like a hardtail and I tried playing around with sag and compression but it didn’t help. I wear a chamois and I’m used to riding 6h+ in the saddle and after a day on the ripmo my ass was really sore. However the ripmo was more supportive in the mid stroke and took big hits better. But this is vs the 2019 stumpy which has 140mm in the back. This one has 130mm. But I’ve always found specialised bikes to have great feeling rear suspension, some of the best in the industry and I’m guessing this ones no different. Ripmo deffo a bigger feeling bike though.

    I have the 2020 stumpy comp carbon and honestly if it pedals better i dont think it would matter. I treat my stumpy as a "mini enduro" bike with chunky soft tyres and it pedals very well and is easy to winch up the climbs. Dunno how i feel about the flex pivots and how theyll hold up over time. Well see i guess.

      First I got the TRAIL 429 Enduro with SRAM X01 and the Reynolds Blacklabel wheels. LOVE IT.
      then I got PIVOT Shuttle AM team XX. a couple of weeks ago. I’ve had a number of problems both with the lack of build quality by the shop. I bought it from and then also the bite turns itself off at times for no reason and then also attached for no reason it shuts off all assistance. Also, I’ve got an orange error light, so it seems the Bosch, CX race motor and complete system/package has some bugs to work out.
      I’ve called the bike seller. They are supposedly working on a fix with pivot and Bosch. On my own I also called pivot Bosch and didn’t get any results. Also, one of the bike shops I took it to pivot and Bosch with zero results also.
      I think I will really like the bike when everything gets fixed.
      From the factory or OEM settings, the assistance is more than enough. I’ve been playing with it turned down some of the Assistance and three of the four settings.
      haven’t figured out why yet pivot, and Bosch claim their seven settings for this bike, when I only seem to get for a green, which is the lowest setting Than blue, then purple and then red.

    Would the 2020\1 PIVOT SWITCHBLADE beat this bike in every aspect? Climbing, sprinting, descending, tight turns, NOT destroyer of pedals and cranks, flat surfaces, roots, rocks, etc. overall quality, quality control... thank you! GOOD videos!

    I don't like the rear brake caliper design, looks like u can't run a 200mm rotor.
    And why would u ride an Assegai at the rear of a trail bike?

    I’m not sure why I watched this, I will probably never buy a Specialized mountain bike or frame, especially not the S(Salary) Works model.

      Nothing wrong with the Specialized bike “product” it’s just not on my short list of bikes and frames that interest me.

      Specialized most likely sends out "media" bikes to the big review/media companies for such purposes. Smaller reviewers will be waiting for shops to get some in for demo purposes.
