When low rise jeans come back, teenagers everywhere will witness the horrific sight of a cafeteria full of butt cracks as I once did....
That’s what originally turned me away from low rise jeans 😂 I didn’t want people seeing my butt crack
People make fun of whale tails but at least the thong covered the butt crack ;)
Agree and don't forget about those muffin tops.
@Jacquline Ard me reading this while wearing low rise Jean's: 👁👄👁
@Jacquline Ard nah on thick girls high waisted but skinny girls look good in low waisted in my opinion which is why I'm gonna get in shape and get these muffin tops slimmer before I start to wear them but ugh I mostly look good in waist emphasis but I'll wear low waisted for only one week~😂
damn Paris Hilton really wore every single thing huh
Yes, her style was really influential in the early 2000s.
true u should watch her documentary it really sad
she has mentioned that she never wears the same thing twice
Because she's rich enough to buy every single thing that goes in trend
oh yah, being one the most photographed person in the 2000s, every brand was throwing free clothes at her left n right
u missed a big one: butterflies
I've been cleaning my room the other day and I found lots of butterfly "merch" and thought damn my 4 year-old self was trendy hahaha
my mom was obsessed with butterflies when it was a trend
Ah yes, I already have 50 butterfly clips
i'm already wearing them on my jeans, they're so cute!

The fact Paris Hilton literally popped up every 5 seconds really proves how INFLUENTIAL she was in the 2000s.
She was the Kardashian of the 2000s
She's an icon
Paris, Britney, Lindsay Lohan were the icons of the 2000s, Beyoncé and Jlo were also very famous and popular, and not so polemic or crazy like them 😂
Because she’s the original influencer

I think you’re one of the only fashion TH-camrs that outrightly credited the black community for its contributions in fashion. Love itttt
z,
Summer Storm ?
Dominique Smith black community, really wth it’s just urban culture, certain styles aren’t defined to a race.
Marble Duchess yes they are. Look it’up
Yes, when I heard her say that, I wanted to start clapping!
its not that low rise jeans are ugly, they're just kinda hard to make them look good.
I think u meant to write "its just that" or "low rise jeans *are* ugly"
exactly, you doesn’t have a supermodel body you’ll look ugly
@@anav8134 unless you’re skinnyfit and over 180cm tall, your legs will look weirdly short and torso too long. The shape of lowrise jeans don’t make sense at all and when you sit, your buttcrack will show and belly spill over the jeans not to mention weird hip bruising (if you know, you know)
just wear cute tops and jackets
And they're also very uncomfortable to wear
This might be unpopular, but i'm a little excited for a 2000s comeback with some trends. Being born in the late '90s, i was in that very awkward window where i wasn't really old enough to wear a lot of the clothing that was popular then (especially with my conservative mom buying my clothes), but i still idolized it from a distance. It would be kinda fun to finally live my childhood dream.
I get you. While I was a teen /early 20s and don’t want to relive the clothes per se I was extremely poor and envied the handbags sunglasses and accessories so if some come back into style I might try the ones I coveted on Paris Nicole Richie Gwen Stefani SJP
I feel the same, esp now that I am more confident and have more access to clothes I was too scared to wear. I want to experience the fashion of my younger years.
Okay, literally this. I may be biased when i say this but it was really an iconique decade, esp the first half
yes omg I was gonna comment this but im so glad someone else feels the same way!!! I was wayyy too young to wear this clothing but now im in college and its THE PERFECT age for this stuff 😩
Same, I was 4 and I vividly remember wanting to wear the clothes that Bratz dolls and the Winx club wear. Now that I’m a teen and my parents aren’t strict, I can relive the 2000s I sparsely remember
my mom always said that fashion was on a 20 year cycle and i didn’t believe her. now here i am in my 90s/y2k fits
my mom said the same thing, I hope 2010's fashion doesn't become popular again because it was ugly
@@therese1246 LORD please dont ever let that shit get popular again no one will ever convince me 2010s fashion was cute

I loved 2010s fashion tbh. I loved the bohemian looks, and aside from the ugly sneakers I like athleisure too.

The thought of not beeing able to buy high rise jeans gave me anxiety
High rise jeans actively hurt me to sit in. Low rise are my go-tos because of this. It's been so. freaking. hard. to find comfortable jeans over the last 10 years. Stock up now.
I believe with online shopping and the inclusivity trend this won't happen, low rise is not flattering to anyone without a flat stomach, and there will always be smaller brands to cater for alternative fashion. Plus even if teens dictate the trend they are not the ones with the money to buy them, as long as there are people willing to spend money on whatever it is, there will be someone to supply that.
@@flavialm1 Yeah, that's not true. The only place I could find fitting jeans for a reasonable price was Hollister. And that was like 2 pairs. And I don't get the high waisted/mid rise jeans thing. Are ya'll just pretending it doesn't hurt like hell to sit down in or is it just me who has the problem where it cuts into my stomach? I wouldn't say I have a flat stomach, but nobody has ever told me that my jeans look bad. Ya'll are just mad that I'll FINALLY be able to find jeans that I like again.
@@user-K8T im sorry to hear that... I don't know where you're from, but in stores like Monki, weekday and even Levi's they usually have a quite inclusive jeans range.
@@user-K8T I didn't even addressed your comment, plus I don't know you how can I be mad that you don't get to buy the jean's you like, that's completely irrelevant to my life, and to answer your question, no my stomach doesn't hurt from sitting down and I never heard anyone, skinny or overweight complaining about that, plus here in my country stores divide the Jean's section in to styles and there had always been low rise, as the middle and high rise to buy.

😂 it’s important to note tho most of these trends will be dominated by the rich or those with disposable money. For example, boyfriend jeans are popular right now but many in real life still wear skinny jeans which I guess “isn’t in fashion right now” bc they can’t afford to buy pairs of pants for a trend. So you keep wearing high rise jeans without worry ☺️

Mini rant: I love that the look of my tweens is coming back but think we all need to be mindful of one of the biggest side effects of trends like crop tees and low rise bottoms - excessive dieting and bad body image. It’s not a coincidence that celebrities who were Y2K icons like Nicole Richie, the Olsens, LiLo, Paris Hilton and Victoria Beckham were all painfully underweight at one time or another in that period. Many of my generation (myself included) developed insecurities about our tummies, hips and bums because of trends like those. It’s partly why I think we all embrace high waisted jeans and skater silhouettes because they are flattering on a wider range of body types and ages and are more versatile in terms of dressing up or down.
TL;DR I love this aesthetic but as a 2000s teen, learn from our mistakes and remember that the fashion is the trend, not the attitude that promoted harmful body standards and EDs! You don’t have to have a tiny frame and/or be a teen to wear whatever the hell you want to! ❤️
Yes!
Amen 👏
Yea that’s why I have such bad body image: being an early bloomer in the late 90’s, and being in middle school/high school in the 2000’s. The fat-shaming was real back then.
Yep. I'm 35 now and still struggle with this. Y2k did me dirty. I was obsessed with mk olsen and Nicole Richie.
true but skinny jeans was equally damaging for us pear-shaped ladies. personally i feel way slimmer in a y2k aesthetic. I was way curvier back then but always felt hot, whereas i've struggled with the baggy on top skinny jeans combo for years.
y'all she predicted the 12:24 baguette bag trend, 15:02 tie dye trend, 14:00 animal print (specifically zebra & cow, though she didn't mention cow), 17:24 argyle (especially argyle sweater/sweater vests), 17:45 patchwork (jeans & tops), 18:16 once again sweater vests, 19:40 denim "not just skinny jeans" with baggy jeans trend, 2:43 mesh trend
no she didn't lmao, these were all already a trend before this video ???
@@selfraisingsugar898 the trends actually didn't really start till like late 2020 so she kind of did predict they would come back in 2021-2020

@@selfraisingsugar898 actually the trends didn’t start until early 2021
Why can't people just make freaking medium rise jeans? Does everything have to be so extreme? I gotta choose between having my butt crack show or having my pants near my ribcage? BS
In 2000's they had a variety. Low rise (just above pubic hair), mid rise (sitting on hips), and high rise (almost touching waist).
They are enough medium rise jeans on the market. You can find them anywhere lol
uniqlo
The ones which are marketed as 'regular rise' are usually mid-rise jeans. However, I was fooled multiple times by jeans which were labelled as 'high-rise' as they turned out to be mid-rise on me (although I am only 165 cm)
I laughed so hard at “rib cage” and instantly spongebob in his prom suit popped up in my mind 😂😂😂
To be honest, I never realised the "whale tail" was a deliberate fashion trend... I always thought it was an unhappy consequence of people wearing low-rise pants and just not caring lol. Haven't missed that trend one bit.
😂the only trend from that period of time i really hated back then...
It's already making a comeback. I saw it on ig.
LangBellsChannel, well, those IG models can enjoy their infamy on the internet’s embarrassing hall of fame videos that will be titled something like “trashy trends of the ‘20s.”
I also thought the actual whale tail was accidental, but exposing one's underwear was deliberate. Manny's bedazzled blue thong was a bit extreme, but in No Doubt's "Hey Baby" Gwen Stefani was clearly showing the sides of her red thong. I can't remember when it began, but showing the elastic waistband that said "Calvin Klein" or whatever was also a trend back in the day.
Yes, that's true! I had forgotten all about that. So I guess that was kind of the male equivalent haha. And at least in my country the 2000s also saw the rise of hip-hop and baggy pants where they also applied the "how low can you go" principle :D. But yeah, in general underwear was exposed a lot more, not only thongs. Maybe in part because of the trend, but then again it was kind of inevitable with those low-rise pants. So I guess people just embraced it...
This ain’t a TH-cam video this is a fucking documentary. Amazing work.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 FACTS
yall know that you can wear whatever you want whether its trendy or not, right? Like if ur body looks good in high waisted jeans, wear them, if they look good in lowrise, wear them. You don't have to change yourself to fit trends lmao. Plus people are fairly accepting of different fashion now so I doubt they'd care whether you follow trends or not
Right I’ve seen so many comments upset about the trends but they don’t have to follow them they should just wear what they want
The issue is that a lot of brands, especially the ones that people of lower income can afford, only adhere to what is trendy. So say that I want a high rise pair of jeans, I won't be able to find any if they're only selling low rise again
@@elizaandreadaki9942 ofc, and it's difficult to find low waisted as well but as someone in a poor family I've noticed that thrift stores and second hand stores such as depop or poshmark tend to sell clothes that aren't trending for decent prices. obviously u wouldn't have to worry about that right now but incase low rise does come back that could be helpful!
Agreed
The so-called trends you see in the lower priced stores are usually a bit out of date anyway. If you watch the runway shows and try to emulate some of the looks you like it can take up to two years to find these looks in the stores even if you live in a big city. If you’re lucky you might find them at the thrift store. My solution has been to not throw anything that’s high quality and looks good on me away. If I feel it’s not in style at the moment it stays in storage. You need space and have to store them properly. If your weight fluctuates, keep things that are a one size smaller or larger. This year the skinnies go into storage (though in the videos I watch of people walking around Paris people are still wearing and looking good in them); the black and white striped t-shirt I got at the Gap in 2012 comes out.
"High rise jeans will disappear"
Me: *stars wearing high rise jeans even harder.

Fashion can pry high rise jeans out of my cold dead hands
Doesn’t this remind you of the moms who continued to wear high rise long after it was out of style in the early 2000s? I love my high rise jeans but I’m afraid of becoming one of the “old people” I secretly made fun of when I was a kid. It’s so bizarre how cyclical fashion is.
Imagine in the 2030s when people start dressing up like the 2010’s... the black striped Adidas become “aesthetic”

One of the “trends” I love about current fashion is that most items from the past can be worn and look current, thanks to the increase in vintage/pre-owned shopping and wardrobe sustainability. A blazer from the any decade since the 1960s just seems to work, for example. The other trend I love is the increase in comfort, especially in footwear, although not the increasing informality than seems to come with it. We are already a world of loungewear and sneakers and even pajamas, but I think it’s possible to be comfortable and still really stylish a d not look like we’re coming back sweaty from the gym. For example, why do stretchy-waist pants always have to have gym-style dangling drawstrings? Get rid of those, keep the stretch, and it looks a lot sharper.

Same. I'm slim but have a long torso, small waist, wide hips and sturdy muscly legs, and only high-rise jeans with an actual high rise (12 inch from waist to crotch) don't give me camel toe and flatter my figure. Without that I basically look almost like a square from the hips downwards. I wanna be well-dressed, I don't know why they want us to suffer so much 😭

I was born in the 90s and grew up during the 2000s. I feel like we tend to remember the more outlandish trends but we forget how most styles were just seen as normal clothes Back then, it was hard for me to imagine a world where everyone wasn't wearing bootcut and low rise jeans...well, until skinny high rise jeans came in style.
We also often forget that normal people usually ended up with a water downed version of the trend. If juicy couture sweatsuits were popular in the early 2000s, by 2006 I was wearing a velour tracksuit from Kmart to school. As the Y2K look comes back in fashion, I think it will be the more wild and fun aspects that come back in style and it will also be updated to modern tastes. There will be things that aren't even accurate to the time that will be marketed Y2K or vintage to be cool and trendy, the same way we had "90s" makeup in the 2010s that no one in the 90s would have worn. But we will see.
I grew up in the 2000s watching my aunt as a teenager cutting all her low rise jeans to mini skirts... lol I loved all of her phases
I was skinny AF in the 00's, and I still hated low-rise pants. There's just something so uncomfortable about having your entire lower belly out. No matter how skinny you are, when you sit down, rolls WILL spill over the low-rise pants.

I really feel like nowadays, you can wear whatever you want. While some people might condemn you for not wearing the 'trendy' stuff, there are like 500 trends happening at once so most people will look somewhat 'trendy'. And even if something isn't available anymore (which is unlikelable), you can still find it secondhand because of the huge fashion consumption in the last two decades (for better or worse)
Also, I was a child in the 2000's, so I don't know whether to like these trends or not - It isn't nostalgic for me, but it also isn't truly new as I saw older cousins etc wear them and when I was in early teen in the 2010's when 2000's fashion was a NONONO, I feel like that is very stuck in my brain.
I agree! I think that were moving to less so wearing mainstream trends all the time to wearing things that we like and find flattering and confident in for our own individual bodies.
Exactly! Personally I've never liked 2000s fashion and I don't see myself ever wearing it, although that might change.
I agree. Personally, I really like the fact that fashion at the moment allows you to be yourself a bit more, but at the same time I do wish modern fashion had a bit more of an identity - it would be cool if we came up with something new that is actually wearable and that people in the future could look back on.
Yes! I think also because of the rise of thrifting, 70s, 80s, 90s, Y2K and some 10s trends are trendy all at once. I feel like the biggest trend rn is borrowing from the past in a way that suits you individually.
Amber Syed I’m really liking this thrifting trend. I remember doing that since HS w/ my bff since we got into “hipster clothes.” I hope fast fashion and it’s cheap quality dies, and then we can have actual good quality clothes that are accessible and affordable for most ppl.
Conclusion: Don't throw away clothes u don't like anymore or is out of fashion. Keep it , who knows maybe it'll be back and ur children will wear them. My godmom kept rainbow belt from 1991 , she bought it in Rome and gave it to me and it's so beautiful and aesthetic
Don’t enable my ass I already can’t let go of my hoard despite my whole house being overtaken 😅😅 jkjk
My mom always told me to keep old clothes and I’m like where this closet keeps breaking but I guess storage might work lol
You shouldn't throw away clothing at all period. You could donate them resell then or even cut and sew them yourself
my mom had a bunch of clothes and shoes from the 80's and 90's that she gave me that are very cute and i guess trendy
My mom gave me most of the mini skirts I own, my dad gave me a bucket hat and I have a few pairs of big earings and hair clips from my grandma. I told my family and friends that if they don't like something instead of throwing it away, give it to be.
It really feels like the trends for the 2020s are going to be a combination of the late 90s, mid 70s, and early 2000s
I think so too
you’re right though!!! -2022
No
And the 80s
Y'all. Most of those "low rise" jeans in the TikTok clips are most definitely mid rise, NOT low rise. Mid rise IMHO actually looks the best on so many different people! Can we please keep this and have the extreme opposites be the outliers for once? I'd be soo happy!
The new iteration of the “whale tale” looks almost more like a waist or hip “definer” it loses the “trashy” vibe IMO by making it look more like a waist accessory than simply an exposed thong. I don’t hate it.
Yeah! It's all about defining that V shape. True true
Looks trashy to me though.... like these poor girls are getting wedgies. 🤷🏻♀️
No, I don't like the new iteration so much. But, I am admiting that it's way better than that trashy thong exposure. Looks like people are a little bit serious about fashion nowadays.
I like it better but am still not a fan of either lol
I always see it in anime (mostly sailor outfits) so I kinda new it was gonna come back XD
Honestly I think we can all agree on this when I say the 2010s had the WORST fashion. Prints of pineapples, avocados, and galaxy designs were on every shirt. It just looked extremely cheap and tacky.

Me: belly fat
Her: "... Our own style."
I was so ready to be called out lol
Popular trends I remember... was a High-schooler in the US,
Y2K- (I was 15 in 2000).
Here are some examples of outfits/ early brand aesthetics I remember from then, but it is not all or limited to... but may be helpful to those interested: I'd say look at old catalogs/magazines/Family photos from that time if you can find them/ have access to them.
There was alot of diversity and representation where I grew up even then, which is absolutely wonderful to see in every aesthetic. However many people dressed according to the music they were into.
Street style- was very in, many independent owned shops, lots of Tracksuits, creative denim, popular sneaker brands Like Nike and Adidas. Babyphat and Kangol were big where I lived.
Skate style- "Pac Sun" skate shirts for skateboard brands, widest leg pants, "stovetop" style usually med blue to darkest washes- some had studs down the legs, typically worn low-slung, with a crop top, muscle top or layered band/logo t-over long sleeve shirt and a ball chain style choker with a pyramid belt. etc. Hoodies. So. Many. Hoodies.
Anything 90's/00's Alt "Hot topic" (Band tees Typically Goth and industrial bands but some pop punk as well, Evil bunny, Tripp NYC- Matching Tartan corset top to matching skirts usually bought together as a set, Emily the strange shirts, obscure buttons, TUK shoes/boots, pins hair dye, piercings, Fishnet tops and stockings, long socks, belts, chains, Etc.)
Anything "Alloy" catalog- Your typical softer or basic fashion with really durable basics. Patchwork skirts and flared pants, ditsy floral dresses or striped ones, Eyelet fabric, matching crop and skirt sets, hair clips, lipgloss and glitter makeup. T-shirts with cutesy drawn characters on them, long boxy Denim skirts, or pencil ones... most of this style stuff you could also get at department stores of various price ranges.
Anything "Delia's" catalog- identical to Alloy
"Abercrombie and Fitch" (Logo Mania, all their basics were "In". Reserved for the popular/wealthier kids in the area I grew up)
"Old Navy" aesthetic (Logo Mania, For those that wanted to be fashionable but didn't want to pay the Abercrombie price, but faster fashion pieces than A&F.
Band Tees especially- Underground Rap, Reggae, Ska, Punk, Grunge, Rock, Shoegaze, Goth, industrial, Metal, Pop-Punk, Pop and Classic Rock, Country.
So basically-
Music and film diversity was very, very in!
Tapes/CDs/Walkman/wrap around behind the ear headphones
Anime culture/DVDs
Hoodies
Carhartt style jackets
Long boxy Denim skirts
Peasant tops-short and long sleeved blouses
Ditsy floral print tops in cheesecloth like fabric
Low rise skirts/pants
Boot cut and flared pants
Muscle tanks
Corderoy and velvet materials
Messenger bags and jackets covered in patches and pins
low Flatform sandals
Big gemstone pendants and matching earrings
Hoop earrings
Ball Chain chokers
Pastel sweaters
Skate shoes
Plain baseball raglan tops
Cap-sleeved printed tops
I could go on...but lots of trends.
(Edit: because this is a long comment)
Thanks for the amount of info & detail!
omg if low rise comes back and dominates the stores, id rather just shop at the mens section
Oh yeah, me too yikes
Same 😪
I remember struggling to find pants in stores the first time around because I didn't want to wear low rise jeans back then either.
This decade we're sewing our own clothes sis 👏
if it happens at least we'll get pockets while wearing mens jeans 🤔
Children, just say no to low-rise jeans. They will ruin your life, trust me. I'm old enough to remember.
Edit, after 8 months of this gen z vs millennial nonsense: Babes if you can wear them then more power to you, ily xo
Im 17 and I love it! Please stop saying that. It may not suit everyone but for some body types its good.
Low rise jeans accentuate the body. Idk wtf you're talking about, but low rise jeans will ALWAYS make ANYONE SEXY.
High-rise jeans actually do a better job of highlighting the butt. Low-rise jeans do nothing for any bootys anywhere. They just don't sit well on the hips.
Constantly pulling them up ugh 😩
@@Itsleeuhhhhh *anyone who's skinny
so happy low rise came back, for me personally, as a girl with a very small waist, finding high waisted jeans that actually fit my hips and my waist was hell, as most of the time they would have a gapping waist. now, with low rise jeans its not such a problem to find ones that actually fit your hips, then i dont have to worry about my waist!
guyyysss they're actually back she was right I trust her with my life now
I’m glad to hear that we aren’t giving up our high rise jeans without a fight, it’s one of those trends that don’t work if you aren’t a stick
Yeah, and it's popularity in the 00s makes sense because of the skinny body trend.
I just want normal waisted jeans like not high rise and not low rise. High waisted just looks really bad on me for multiple reasons especially because it makes me look stubby. But I have a really small waist and my butt isn’t that big but it’s definitely not small so I just want normal rise jeans that will actually fit me. It’s so hard to find jeans these days that aren’t high waisted and when they aren’t I can never find them in my size.
@@Gigi-ow3fw agreed. People are complaining so much but high waisted jeans are not going anywhere. You can't find anything other than high-waisted jeans (shorts and trousers too) in shops they don't go away lmao. I don't think I've seen low waisted or midrise jeans at all.
Every woman in my family were sticks in the 2000's (including me) and I can't even look at the photos of that time without wanting to burn every evidence of those ugly jeans 😤
i think all era is making a comeback these days. you can dress like the 70s today and the 80s tomorrow or the 60s the day after. it's cool, I LOVE IT!
Yeah we have more freedom to dress however we like now and it's great
bro fr in 100 years it wont matter😹
This! There’s so many styles out there!
I only just found this, and it's insane how accurate this is.
Thank you for mentioning the differences between the early/mid/late 2000s. I hear people say 'the 2000s' but imo there's a huge difference between say, 2001/02 & 2008/09 for example.
As a child of the early aughts I will take a HARD PASS on a lot of these trends, especially low-rise jeans. I’ve served my time. Let the young people have fun with these.
lol
“I’ve served my time”--YES 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 LOL
Stephanie Murray thanks! I can’t credit for that tho. My sis-in-law said it first and honestly I agree with it so much
Exactly. Especially since low rise jeans Lasted until about 2011, I feel like. Lol
LITERALLY!!!!
Oh dear god don’t bring back low rise jeans I have the body shape of the pillsbury dough boy
Addison Justus why’d this hit so hard omg😫
I'm almost underweight and I still have a muffins top in low rise jeans. It's not your body. It's the pants.
Same girl...same.
same
i remember my kid and teens...finding a pair of jeans that fit me well AND didn't make me look like a carrot-legged monster was hard to the point that my mom, who is harsh about my weight and figure, even admitted to the absurdity of the jeans that were being sold at that time.
This is my FAVOURITE decade for fashion trends, idk it’s just looks so aesthetically pleasing!! The low waisted jeans and the mini crop top with the shoulder bag is definitely a trend with platformed sneakers and heels I LOVE IT. I’m so glad it’s back
same!
I remember when Juicy Couture was at high end department stores
Yep at Nordstrom and over $100 for the pants... I thought it was stupid... Not the velvet sweats... Lol Just the price to have the brand " Juicy " on your butt.
@@stretchkitty21 indeed. Now it's at Kohls
same💀
Juicy couture is becoming popular once again there selling like crazy now
@@candyperfumeboi76 selling they perfume for 70% off in the clearance section 💀😭
Nostalgia is weird. I hated 00's trends at the time, but now, seeing these outfits cause strange stirrings inside me. I never thought I would look back at that time fondly.
IKR it’s the exact same with me! It’s funny how trends always play a huge role in making us see styles totally differently in retrospect
@@margaret1833 yes! Also hi my name is Margaret too:))
Same here. 00's fashion caused crippling body image issues for me as a teen and young adult, but now I too look back fondly.
desert moon hey fellow margaret :)
Right? I legit have the desire to paint on my jeans and add a few sequins to it because I genuinely think a little of that jazz is cut. So weird.
I love when she called Nava Rose a celebrity, she's an underrated queen
Rita Rodrigues Lol isn't she a TH-camr?

This video was so accurate now that I'm looking back.
Chinese culture and symbols were also really iconic during this era - the yin yang sign, silky jacquard/brocade fabrics with intricate pastoral motifs (similar to the fabric used to make Cheongsams), Cheongsam-style dresses and tops (often with the Mandarin collar and fabric-covered buttons), dragon motifs, “karma bracelets” (though named after a Hindu concept, I think the beads were supposed to mimic stones that held significance in Chinese culture and traditional healing such as Jade and Amethyst) and of course random Chinese characters. I feel like some of that has been making a bit of a comeback, though with a bit more sensitivity to recognising the origins and sacred significance. I really love the yin yang symbol, and a few years ago I did some research into the philosophical meaning behind it as part of a fashion design project inspired by duality - it’s really fascinating and something I related to a lot in how I view the world. However I’m having a hard time finding out whether there is an element of cultural appropriation for non-Chinese people to wear, use or display it.
No. I can assure you Chinese people don’t care, because young Chinese don’t actually care either. Firstly Ying yang stems from philosophy and not religion. Secondly Chinese will just laugh if you wear Chinese characters on your shirt which don’t make sense, the same way they also wear random English word shirts. And cheongsam dress is not so cared about because it’s cultural class importance is not high, it wasn’t worn by high level people in china.Chinese street fashion includes cheongsam style clothes which are worn in china. Even sexualised versions aren’t really cared about.
In my history of research I would only say significantly important cultural clothes should be left out of trends, such as traditional wedding outfits, and kimono, hanfu etc because it’s still worn frequently in those countries , not as daily wear but on certain occasion.
But actually it doesn’t really matter in the end, because realistically the east and west is far divided by fashion and beauty trends, whatever we do in the west won’t effect them. Asia will still wear it the way they’re expected to and maintain their cultural significance, no matter we butcher it or not. Asian Americans get triggered even if you wear cultural clothes the correct way because majority of the time they don’t even speak the language of the native country and are raised in western culture, thinking the same as white Americans. I suggest to avoid these young people on the internet because they have a lot of time and feel to get mad at something. Unless you plan to wear such things in their country it doesn’t matter. It’s not destroying or simplifying their culture just because Kim k did it the wrong way. The most they’ll think is ‘I don’t want foreigners to think that’s the correct way to wear it, but I trust that people who have 1% brain power can know the correct way to do it by asking someone who knows/personal research if they wanted to wear it, and even if they got it a bit wrong I’m still happy that they’re interested in my culture’ and then will move on.
I am gonna be SO UPSET when low rise is trendy again. You will NEVER see me in a pair of those godforsaken jeans again.
Same the lowest I’ll ever wear is mid rise
God they are so uncomfortable and unflattering
We've got at least 10 years more of our beloved high rise jeans. 😌
Same, however I've seen many girls on tiktok who wear them and they look incredibly good, like reallyy pretty and stylish. But I would neverrr wear them
Then just don’t wear them it’s that easy lmao
The way I SCREAMED when you said we might not have high rise jeans around forever... Too bad this muffin top is forever 😂
This is why I’m learning to sew. I remember when all you could find was low rise at the stores. It was pure hell. Sure, NOW I can find pants I like, but how long until fashion designers decide to make my life hell again?
The population is larger than it was back then. I promise you, high rise jeans/pants arent going anywhere.
Nah the thing about high rise jeans is that they actually look really nice, ain’t no way I’m giving them up either.
I hope they don't disappear because the only thing that's holding me back from buying them is being broke
im over here liking mid-rise... low rise hits right under the muffin, so it squishes out lmao
Love low rise jeans and I'm so happy they are back because I never stopped wearing them!
You were 100% right about the plaid coming back. I can't go shopping without being bombarded by plaid shirts, jumpers, pants, and dresses in every store. It's always been one of my favorite prints, just never expected it to come back this hard
I hope this decade, or soon, we will give up the “this isn’t fashionable anymore. Go change”.
While I love dress history, and don’t want to exterminate it, I wish we could wear whatever from whenever and not be considered weird.
I wanna wear a victorian dress to school, dammit!
Yes! I wish they could just sell EVERYTHING ALWAYS, so we can pick what to wear. Sometimes 90s, sometimes 70s or whatever or mix it.
Legit like I love the 40s and 50s fashion but if o wore it to school it would be so Wierd🥺😂
Victorian and Edwardian fashion are actually becoming very popular. A lot of period TH-camrs are popping up and that's influencing a lot of people to revive a lot of styles from those eras. I'm actually one of those people.
Yes!!! I will join you (I might have already bought patterns)
You can try making historically inspired garments or toning down the extreme features into something more modern
There's something about the 2000's that's just soooo ugly I am OBSESSED with it

THANK YOU THEY WERE PART OF THE 2000s
As long as 2010 fashion never comes back I'm good
we wanted flapper dresses for the 2020s, not low rise jeans :(
Bruh, same here.
Hehe it’s low waisted either way (I’m sorry I had to)
Same 😭
I feel like drop waists are just as unflattering as low rise jeans
haha honestly tho
My kidneys are not happy about low-rise pants coming back.
And so are my fat ass and belly

I see, black people influencing the entire fashion industry yet again 👀 I do miss some of these looks
black people literally influence everything in pop culture like fashion, music, movies

tbh, low-rise jeans will only look exceptionally good on someone with a very well toned\flat stomach and small waist
i got that belly plop rn so ill have to pass but they do look kind cute😟
Facts I totally agree
Yes exactly. Before I got pregnant, all I wore were low rise jeans and they got lots of attention from men because those jeans accentuated my very flat stomach and small waist. I rather have this body type over a curvy body type if I’m being perfectly honest
@Raquel FACT they just mad
gotta love that xtra baby fat we got 😘
And no butt. Lemme tell you, low-rise doesn't work at all if you have curves.
mad respect for the people who wear low rise jeans😳
thank you 😭 i really disliked it though even if it was for my body type
thank you!!! I see people shaming in the comments and it’s sad, I enjoy showing my body off
H I thanks!
Fr that would make me so self conscious
They would look soo weird. My tummy would be hanging out of them
As a girl who is "short waisted " I'm so happy low and mid rise jeans pants and shorts are back! I can't wear high waisted jeans pants or shorts they go up to my bust area lol
Same. I’m 5ft talk 😂
A year later and you were completely right about these trends. I think I’ve seen about half of these trends return on TikTok and in public over the last year and I expect to see the rest get burned through as the pandemic goes on and people continue to speed cycle through trends
Y’all trends come and go. Dress for your body and what you feel confident in maybe throw in a trend if you feel like it. You’re all beautiful ❤️ adore you’re size
Pretty name!
beautiful advice :)

The comment we needed ❤️❤️
Honestly...
I think some of these trends, especially the whale tail and low rise jeans, will be popular for celebs like Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner etc., and on Instagram & TikTok, but I don't see them all transferring to many real life situations outside of LA/online.
I do see the y2k brands and easier to wear styles coming back as a larger trend though.
i REALLY hope we'll still have high rise jeans
if they’re popular with celebrities like kendall then it’s likely they’ll trickle down into real life as well
It’s 2022 and when you enter stores it’s like entering a 2000s theme
im Scottish and i loved how much you talked about our traditional patterns! Tartan is obvious but not many people know about paisley its a big part of our culture, love you moderngurlz
Ok, I’m really worried because I’m a male and everything we got from the 2000’s it’s vests and untied ties 🤢🤢🤢
LMAOO
So sorry for you 😔❤️
Dude boys back then we’re CUTE though
@tia brands will most likely wanna feature what's trendy so it might be difficult to get clothes your style. i remember struggling on stores before cause i despised the crop top trend and every cute top i found that has good design and good fabric were all cropped
... frosted tips.
Imagine in 2040 when they dress up like the 2010s, plastic moustaches, peace signs, hair clips, rainbow hair, plump lips, weird filters, emos, low jeans and sweaters make a comeback and become an “old aesthetic” 😭😂
Bruh
the thought of it has literally kept me up at night for years, finally someone who understands the demons which haunt me
I'll be 34 then wtf
plastic moustaches?
don't forget galaxy print. nothing screams mid 2010s more than galaxy print. and unicorn everything, don't forget those too.
Why was she right 😭
😭😭😭
This entire video was a nostalgia trip. After cleaning my entire house I found so many clothes from literally all these brands. Holy crap.
Don’t forget the colored cowboy hat comeback, “indie & y2k” aesthetics, and hello kitty!
I remember a very young and skinny Tyra Banks carrying a Hello Kitty purse to some event on late '90s or 2000 and I went crazy because my tween self NEEDED it!
Hello kitty is always trending tho. Theres actually been a rise in popularity of my melody, twim stars, and kuromi.
I will accept the worst of the 2000s fashions comebacks as long as low rise jeans stay dead. It was bad enough being an insecure teen in the early 2000s but being an insecure teen who could only find pants that were both uncomfortable and made her even more insecure? Ugh.
Some of these weren't that bad though. I like rhinestones, vests, halter tops, and asymmetrical skirts/shirts.
high waisted jeans lasted like 40 years from the 60s to the 90s so i think its too early for them to disappear
@@lucase9698 But high waisted jeans fit more to more body types. Low rise jeans only look good on girls with small hips and no butt.
@@CorazonMexica thats why i think high waisted lasted so long and low rise only a decade. low rise is probably going to make a comeback for a few years but without excluding high waisted. or maybe mid rise will be next in fashion
CorazónMexica yeah that's me. I also have no torso thus they fit like mid rise
I loved my low rise jeans but never did the exposed underwear. High rise jeans for me absolutely suck.
“ I don’t see dresses over pants coming back…”
That one muslim girl in my class: modesty over trends sis.
Honestly it can look cute, I just think it has to be styled correctly
I think if you can match it it'll look great
lmaoooooo. being from a muslim majority country, with my city being historically likened to paris for its fashion, a lot of hijabis _always_ find a way to twist modern trends to be more modest and appropriate. hell, even muslima fashion is its own thing here, akin to a subculture. and a lot of the times, they come up with their own trends. creative people are gonna be creative no matter what.
what an icon
@@mophead_xu I love hijabi girls for being the main force fighting back against every single fashion trend now being super revealing. i'm not a hijabi but i do prefer to dress modestly and i follow a lot of them for fashion inspo haha
I wish you mentioned how Mariah Carey was the one who popularized low rise jeans. In 1999 for her Heartbreaker video, she ripped the top of her jeans on set and the rest is history. She never gets her credit 😭
