Wahhh! Finally my Early 2000s Lookbook is here! I hope you guys enjoy this blast from the not-so-distant past. Inspiration is taken from 2000-2005, but "Early-to-Mid 2000s Lookbook" doesn't have quite the same ring to it, lol. Plus the majority of the trends were taken from the early years of the decade, and I think that most of us identify with trends up until 2005 as "Early 00s" in our memories. This video took months (possibly well over a year) of gradual planning, gathering clothing pieces and inspiration, and it is by far my biggest styling project of my life Lol. Please throw me a Like if you enjoyed and share it with your friends!
By the way, almost all the shoes and several clothing pieces were borrowed for styling purposes. The rest of the items are thrifted or vintage pieces. So with this in mind I can't provide item links to anything, but I hope you guys find this enjoyable and inspiring nonetheless :)
(And yes, the outdated and OTT posing is 100% intentional to try and capture the posing style of the time Lolol.)

I already have. The 2010's fashion was boring af.
10a fashion was just a repeat of 90s which is why everyone when I was in high school wore flannel, skinny jeans (often cuffed) and the girls all had high waisted shorts and jeans. I actually saw these 00s trends coming back in 2016, and now in 2021 the current teens are wearing them. My guess is in the mid 2020s they’ll all be dressed like teens from 2000s movies.

It's a pattern that is replicated over and over again because it works in the context of the military. It isn't a pattern from an oppressed class and it doesn't carry cultural significance as much as it does utility. So i get that you're trying to be cute, but you're really just showing that you don't understand what appropriation is.

I've noticed 00s makeup was more softer, and gentle - maybe even a little ethereal. This era is all about empathising every feature - lips, cheekbones, jawline, eyebrows, nose bridge.. Tbh I'm ready for a early 00s fashion comeback...just with MAJOR improvements Lol.
90's gave back but it was a modernized version. I'm sure 2000's is the next thing.

I was a teen then and I have to admit it was more simpler then than it is now even though technology was already starting to be creeping in it wasn’t so advanced than it is now like eg smartphones , iPods etc I came into contact with computers when I was ten it was all pretty new to me !

Butterfly clips were still worn in the early 2000s. I would know because I wore them lol and so did Hilary Duff on Lizzie McGuire which didn't even start until 2001.
haha that's why I was very specific with my wording, I said they were "more late 90s". while they were present until maybe 2001 they were starting to fade as a trend. they were at their peak in the late 90s, so I felt I would save that trend for my next 90s lookbook. if I featured them in both decade lookbooks, the outfits would appear too similar.

Okay, that's a style choice for your lookbooks but they were still around until 2003-2004, really and I think it would've worked if you featured them.
I think people wearing them in 2003-2004 might have been further behind on the trend, and that's a whole topic I didn't even have time to touch on in the video - trends circulated a lot slower back then as the internet wasn't as prominent. Butterfly clips were at their peak in the mid-late 90s in some countries and others may have only just caught up to it much later in the early~mid 2000s. It would have worked in both videos, but it's likely that most of my viewership would identify with it as a 90s trend :)
i was super shocked to see that this video came out in 2016. that makes this super impressive because this style is back in now, but back in 2016 it must have been harder to find these clothes and capture this essence. amazing job!!

As a 90's baby I'm happy to say I can remember the entire early 2000's. Each year during that time were school years for me. Even as a little kid during that time it was cool as shit; especially when you had parents that would let you watch PG-13 shit like WWF Attitude wrestling at an early age. So weird being a kid and teen growing up during this decade and realizing just how old you are. Never ever imagined far ahead and thought about such fashion icons as these would be staples and statements at the time. I heard fashion returns every twenty years and I'm probably not going to let go of the 90s look, complete anyways but does that mean skinny jeans will disappear in the 2020s? Bootcut and baggy was a huge thing as well as shimmery/glittery/pink/gloss looks. I can smell the super girly fruity glittery perfumes my aunts and cousins would put on like it was yesterday. Gosh time flies.

Fashion usually has a 30-25 year circle but since our world functions so fast right now this changes a bit. We are gonna hang on the 90s for a little while in my opinion. At least until the Millenials become completely irrelevant in the market and the pop culture scene. For the moment the late-80's-to-90s-with-a-sprinkle-of-70's-and-a-modern-touch are a still thing.

Omg girl this video is so accurate!!! Eveything was spot on. If I had to add one more look for it to be literally perfect it would be the asymetrical skirts/dresses or the dress plus flare jeans underneath combo. You did such a great job!!

I would still do that now (as I used to) if I liked jeans...
To me it's strange that people would view wearing a long top/minidress as the strange bit, instead of realising that jeans are a weird and uncomfortable piece of clothing and it's better to wear something flexible.

I can't think of one.. We are recycling old trends now. We have a mixture of 70s all the way to the early 2000's. Maybe we will cringe over matte lips or over done highlight.

I have a feeling the fixation on contour & highlight will be cringed at in the future. I don't dislike contour & highlight, but I see contour especially reaalllyy overdone to where the illusion of a concave cheek on a really round-faced person just looks flat weird.

Im not trying to dismiss your work but I can not understand how they fail with something so easy and important, *THE SILHOUETTE* you nailed it, and that's always the most important thing for a look to be authentic, it really bothers me when they say y2k style and they are not y2k !!!!

This may have been just my school in particular, but I specifically remember almost every girl wearing Birkenstock clogs. This had to have been circa 2002/'03. Then a year or so later, every girl wore a combination denim jacket (that was long-sleeved and reached about just underneath the bust, so it was very short) and super flared yoga pants that were the length of capris. Also, ponchos were a pretty big thing.

I can't be the only person who missed this fashion? It was so laid back in comparison to today. The fact that celebrities were wearing stuff that only cost a fiver (or even better, 50p from the charity shop) was just so chill. I feel sorry for my little brother and sister, growing up in the "contour/ jacket on fleek" era is not something I envy.
