He actually learned the guitar parts that were written by Todd Huth, Primus' first guitarist (who has a TH-cam channel btw), then he put his own spin on it and took it sideways from there on later albums.
I just want to sincerely thank everyone involved in making this video. I've always wanted to hear Ler play these riffs and talk some stuff. I love both his playing and his attitude.

Mike Torrao (Possessed's other original guitarist who's on all of their 80's records) is also a great player - too bad he gave up music after the band broke up.
This guy is so much like Alex Lifeson of Rush: Humble, underrated, inventive, and such a big part of filling the empty space between two beautifully obnoxious rhythmic players. I love how his style sounds so broken but it fits perfectly in the Primus pocket.
Really wasn't expecting him to play a Possessed song. For a long time, he seemed to keep his involvement with them kinda quiet for some reason. Really cool to see him play this. Seven Churches is such an important record.
Talking about his flatted 5ths, use of diminished, and his signature tritone licks was everything to me! Thank you Gibson for making this happen. Ler is amazing.

My bass player Josh(RIP), instantly got deeply into Claypool, which meant I needed to adopt the same vibe. Ler was a huge inspiration on my playing in the early 90s in my band. And influenced a lot of the original music I wrote with Josh.
Great story thanks for sharing I lived in the Bay Area from 91 to 95 I saw primus open for the mighty Rush Great show. Primus played Kashmir, les was on the bowed, upright! Rush (roll the bones tour) was unbelievable as usual

This video is incredible!! I never, ever thought I'd see the day where I might actually understand what's going on in The Heckler.
I’ve always wanted a guitar lesson from Ler LaLonde and now my dream has been answered. Never before have I laughed so much during a guitar lesson, I love his unique style, humour and humility. What makes this even better is that recently I’ve been stuck in a rut with my playing and this video has helped me on a path to get out of said ‘rut’.
Ler is definitely one of the most innovative guitarists out there in my opinion, man, not only does he have to play a part that goes along with the wild shit that Les Claypool is doing but they all compliment the song so well

I've always admired Ler's playing and considered it so unique and off kilter right along with Les' bass. I love getting to hear him talk about his playing and get glimpse of who he is. His style has always been a bit mysterious to me and this feels a bit like pulling the curtains back to reveal the wizard. I'm conflicted about it, honestly. Ha Ha... He's one of the greatest guitar players out there IMHO often over shadowed because his sounds is discordant and he's in a band with Les... God! I am in awe of you, Mr. Lalonde.
