I shared a pitcher of beer with Peter Buck before they hit it big at the Joker Lounge in Council Bluffs Iowa 1981. I had no idea who he was. Super nice guy.
When Mark picked up Paul Stanley's '54 J-200 with that biker jacket on it took my breath away for a moment! Another very cool and interesting video, love it!
well considering Paul banged it on the case latch when he took it out, I don't think anyone is so worried about it. Still, when it's not your guitar...
My local shop had a 46' j45 and a 62' SJ. I bought the SJ because it was in better condition, but the neck on the J45 was great. I regret not buying both.
15:00 i bought a 66 J45 back in 1975 that was cherry sunburst, i still have it, the pickguard fell off in the 80's and the cherry has faded completely, it's a toasty golden brown all over now - on my channel.
The J-160E is very unique in that the pickup screws are threaded through the spruce top. To remove or install a pickup you have to thread and start all the pickup screws simultaneously. Deciding mine was too noisy, I pulled the P-90 and put in a humbucker in 1973 or so. More recently Dave Collins at A2 Guitar installed a piezo under the bridge, grounding the strings, as well as making the guitar stereo without drilling new holes. The knobs now blend the two feeds, and the cancelling effect lets you turn it up. The stereo cord allows two channels of signal, conceivably you could mic it for a third. Mine is the square shoulders early seventies iteration, has been traveling much of the time and does not look minty. She sounds best on the shore of a body of water, just a strummin' and hummin'. Oh, Agnesi's jacket zippers always make me yell at the screen, Hahahaha!
I find my playing acoustic makes my hands and fingers stay strong 💪 and although people like my playing in general it’s when I’m playing acoustic where they really say damn. As the nuances are displayed best.
Its funny cause ive been mainly playing electric and couple days ago i played on my uncles acoustic guitar and now I've been wanting to get one even more now ( was already planning eventually to get one or a couple) and i got this vid recommended lol , thank you 😊been wanting to get some recommendations down the line
All I got left of 1960 Gibson J 200 is the case I let it go in 1992 not knowing of Brazilian Rose Wood etc. as I traded it on Maple Simon Patrick that is excellent guitar which I still have for my cowboy strumming .The reason I let J 200 go it was damaged and needs a lot of work bought it as used in 1965 for 500 bucks and let it go for 400 ….yep gotta live and learn
It's absolutely mind-blowing to me that all these guys like their Gibson acoustics! I've never played a Gibson acoustic I liked (other than their earlier archtop guitars)! All Gibson flattops I have played have a plastic-ish midrange that I can't abide by. Amazingly, I don't like most Martin guitars either, although I do understand why Bluegrass players love the dreadnaught bass-heavy sounds of them, as that's just what a Bluegrass guitar needs. There is a whole world of handmade acoustics out there, such as James Goodall, Bourgeois, Collings, and way more with much more articulate answers sweeter tones, and even Taylor & Santa Cruz have very nice tones, all of which are easily within the price ranges of these players!! Maybe they just don't have the time to try such guitars????
I love the look and sound of the jumbos, but no way my tiny ass could ever play one comfortably. But my dream acoustic has always been a J-45. The sound and look are both there for me. I’ll never get one until I’m older and retired (only 30 more years hopefully! 😂) because Gibson acoustics are ridiculously expensive, but I’ll get it one day when the savings have gotten to the point I can survive the purchase.
@@KalajengkingHitammy playing is rather on the lite side of pick use and I usually use the lightest mm of pick thickness and also enjoy nylon strings on the bottom ring.
The SJ-200 is an awesome guitar, it's one of my favorite big jumbo guitars; it sounds very mellow and very deep, and I love the rich sound and tone that it has.
Mr. Agnesi, I know you read this under almost every video but for the respect of these rare historic instruments, please take off your rings before touching them. It hurts every time I hear that clonk.
Joe B. with his stories, is equivalent to that pretentious rich guy, who gives house tours, when he hosts dinner parties, and tells everyone about the small Italian village, that his kitchen tiles were imported from
The Gibson pick guards are so huge that they impede the top from doing its job. Without amplification they sound pathetic as an acoustic guitar. The double pick guard guitars are restricted twice as much. Less volume, less sustain, fewer harmonics. Where are all the Martin guitars? Any American made Martin sounds better than any of the guitars in this video. Better yet, show us a Foley guitar.
Love that you are showing some acoustics some love
Not a Kiss fan at all but I loved Paul Stanley’s shout out to Dave Van Ronk !
Right on.
I shared a pitcher of beer with Peter Buck before they hit it big at the Joker Lounge in Council Bluffs Iowa 1981. I had no idea who he was. Super nice guy.
One of my favorite channels on the tube. So educational with the history & stories & the video work is outstanding!
We really appreciate your kind words!
the C&W is the best in my opinion. but all fantastic....happy holidays Mark and thanks for the video.
Love that you are giving the Acoustics some love as well.

As a biker, I disapprove of Mark trying to look like a biker.
As a guitar player, I disapprove Mark trying to look like a biker.

Ive seen all episodes already 😢 great show

Hard to pick just 1. All beautiful . If forced I’d pick Kirk’s Everly
The Double Dove is a truly stunning piece of playable art. What a guitar!
13:00 why did gibson put the rosette join under the pickguard where you can see the join? why not under the fretboard?

Just WOW, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL GUITAR 😊
Great video. Very interesting.
it's great hearing the stories... we all have the "why" story.
I didn't know Dave Van Ronk played a J200. Always seen him with Guilds!
Ace, bought the guitar because it looks nice. Sums it up.
Beautiful collection 🤤

I’m guessing Kirk is referring to Gibson J-45 when he’s saying J-145 or am I wrong ?
I'm surprised Mark didn't say something......
Yep J-45
Could you do a gibson bass collection video in the future please?
Can you make a ver with just the satin neck?
Podium! Great show!

The ‘35 Lo reminds of a ‘39 I got to play for a week whenI was a kid.
I love how we barely learn what any one of them actually sounds like. Perfect. 👌
I know right? My eyes rolled back in my damn head when Paul Stanley started putting that gem back in the case
Quit your bitching

I got my 50s ebony ❤
Can we do vintage archtops next?
Those are nice but you need to check out Vince Gill’s collection. Probably second to None!
buckles and zippers don't go well around these classics. Great show and will be watching more.
King of the Flat Tops. So choice. So cherry.
Paul Stanley is so guinuine and cool in this video...KISS FOREVER!!!!!!
Think I’ll play my J-50 later today.
Now this is a pre "the collection: Jimmy Page" episode if I've ever seen one!
IMO Martin makes the best sounding acoustic axe I’ve ever heard.
I can't disagree...I own 2 Martin guitars. I own Taylor guitars also both are great in their own way
IMO Gibson make the best looking acoustics.
Until you try to record it, then you reach for a Gibson.
Nope, Yamaha does

kirt hammets house is so goth
He is very into Terror Movies in general.
It would be real awkward when I pulled my ‘90 Yairi out…
Never heard of a J200

Hi I’m Walter
54..j-200 killer
😍
I was confused at the 12:30 mark. Did it come from a doctor or did it come from a chiropractor?
From Chiropractor, they do get a doctor name when they qualify.
@ I appreciate your very specific wording. 😉 Technically they do get to be called that 😂
Paul Stanley
Love when he bangs the side of the 200 on the case buckle.
Neil Schon
Gibson, can you please make a truss rod cover with "tradish" on it?..instead of traditional....
Please more Gibson acoustics I really love my Nick Lucas.
When you pick up a guitar you should take off the leather jacket with the bigass zipper. You’re freaking me out bro.
Mr. Agnesi, I know you read this under almost every video but for the respect of these rare historic instruments, please take off your rings before touching them. It hurts every time I hear that clonk.
Not a single acoustic archtop? Talk about straying from what put you on the map! Nice content, nevertheless - thanks!
My 200 dollar Yamahas sound just as good…
Wow lucky you
Yamaha guitars are fantastic👍
J200 aged a lot better than Paul Stanley did. 😂
There's so much pathetics in this that I stopped watching after two, three, jumps
Joe B. with his stories, is equivalent to that pretentious rich guy, who gives house tours, when he hosts dinner parties, and tells everyone about the small Italian village, that his kitchen tiles were imported from
Ha ha…😂
Collectors are the worst. These things are meant to be played.

one of the last appearances of isbell's actual teeth, he's had the horrible veneers now he looks like a soap actor... absurd.
It kills me when I see such a wonderful instrument in the hand of a guy that can’t play.
I bet they all wish they could play like you 😂
@ Sorry to disappoint you starchild but comes a time when need to outgrow your teenage fantasy.
