Moreover , it has both oil and butter which again adds to the velvet kind of texture of the cake. Hence it is red velvet. You cant really taste the cocoa powder.

Beetroot color is not red. It is between dark pink and purple. Secondly the color stays till the time u r preparing the batter. With heat, after baking the cake color turns dull like chocolate cake. So always for red velvet cake, artificial colors are used.

Cake -
1/4cup + 2 tbsp Salted Butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 cup Maida
1 1/2 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda

1 - 2 tsp Red gel food colouring
1 tsp White vinegar
Bake for 180ºc for 35 - 40 mins (after preheating for 10 mins)

Frosting -

A red velvet is basically eggless, has butter milk in it and also needs to have cocoa powder.. and yes, cream cheese too... So not just red color..😀
