    Happy Hyundai is joining the compact EV space. If this EV is 15000 euros it would be interesting. For 2000-25000 euros, which for me is superpremium compact pricing, I need to see at least a guaranteed 300 kilometer 10-85% all season range, to warrant the pricing. If not, in that case the ID2all might be more interesting from what I've seen so far.

    I owned a SMART car here in SoCal for ten years. It was a great city car. I could always find a parking space. Always. Shopping, commuting, going to the airport, perfect! When Mercedes replaced it with the ED (Erectile Dysfunction!) model, it was a loser. Now retired and living in rural Oregon, we need something a little bigger, but people living in a US city should be happy with an EV this size. Unfortunately, shallow Americans want big vehicles as they believe their 'status' depends on it. It's called a penile substitute, I believe.

    No, this is an error : the ioniq5 uses batteries from SK On, not LG Chem. And SK On batteries are not turnary but pouch cells. They are also absolutely not subject to problems like the LG Chem ones. After having had problems with LG with the Hyndai Kona, Hyundai sued LG and decided to switch to SK On which batteries show very low degradation, even lower than Tesla Panasonic ones.

If they just lifted the battery and motor from sister company Kia’s Ray model, and the stats remain the same, (35.2 kWh battery, 86hp, 205km range, 130kmh top speed) it’d do for this retired bloke. Any improvement on those figures would be a bonus to me, and become a serious option for a wider range of buyers.

    This could be a great city car, and if packaged right might even have some decent range for longer trips.
    The main issue as I see it, is the cost to category solution. It’s a small vehicle and needs to be in the AU$20-25K range, where it would compete with the likes of the Kia Picanto in Oz. As it is, it seems most likely to arrive at a much higher price (say $30-35K), which would be a worry for me. I have no insight to the cost equation, but if it’s US$25K in the States then it will be on the high side for Oz. Just my opinion.
    It also shares its platform (although modded) with an ICE version of the same vehicle, so I hope there are no Bio fidelity issues with vehicle. Battery pack will be small, which in itself will make a great urban runabout, and one assumes it has low embedded CO2. Exactly what I am looking for, but not at the possible price considered here. The longer version will be more expensive I presume.

    Hello Sam, the problem with Hyundai is that they cannot deliver EV cars in a Timely manner. I signed for an ioniq5 in January 2022 and I am still waiting for my ultimate. Thanks to you, I bought a Tesla M3 last February because my Santa Fe was about to turn 80K km and would lose a lot of its value. I live in Canada and although Canada has been early adopters of Hyundai cars, it seems that it’s better to send car to USA where they don’t sell much instead of having them sent here where there is a waiting list on hundreds of people. In the meantime, Tesla has reduced the price of the MY 2024 to the price I paid for my rwd M3. I will order a MY this Friday since it fits our needs better.

    Whilst it's great that EV's are becoming more affordable and that there are more options available for people, here in the UK new ICE cars start from around £12,500. I know we'll eventually reach a point where EV's are cheaper than ICE vehicles, but the people who normally buy new cars in this segment generally won't have the budget to stretch to £20,000 and it's not the kind of car that people will buy as a company car. I think that's why most manufacturers have shied away from this market segment with their EV lineup. Given that the second hand EV market has plummeted here and I assume elsewhere in the world, these small EV's won't make sense as a new car for many people. They have smaller range, less space and less features than a two year old EV at a similar price would have. That said, the same applies to ICE vehicles in that regard and people still buy new, small cars, but I definitely still see the price being a barrier.

      @Neofolis 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@achumachenko The saving certainly can be huge, but most drivers of small vehicles do relatively low mileage, which will reduce potential savings. The automakers can see the potential; they can not see a way to make more money on a cheap stripped down vehicle of any description. The consumers have demonstrated that they are willing to pay giant money for a giant SU-bus and profits from the sales of which is what the automakers need to survive. The needs of most consumers is not important. What is important is what are enough people willing to pay for. The US automakers have already demonstrated that they can not make any money with Ranger pickups, Omnis , et al. Americans are stuck with this capitalist system that only delivers what the makers can make money on. Anything else is called charity and it does not co-exist within for-profit corporations.

    I’m a high mileage driver, but truly most people are not. My mother does a few thousand miles a year - why would she get an ICE car? For so many these types of car are superb! While for the odd balls like me even I am not far from having the range to make EV viable - just the purchase cost being a struggle at this stage!

      It makes more sense to get an EV if you do high mileage as you can save money on petrol. Your mum will never recoup the cost of an EV over an ice if she only does a few miles every now and again. Even though an EV is definitely better suited to that type of driving. Maybe second hand would work or if she's not bothered about the cost.

    Even the cheapest ICE car still has a range of 300+km, plentiful winter heat for people in colder climates and fuels in 2-3min when one tank isn't enough, people don't have the option of charging at home or owning, maintaining and insuring a separate vehicle for longer trips. EVs aren't for everyone, different people have different preferences on what compromises they are able or willing to make.

    The biggest problem with Hyundai/Kia is that they are Hyundai/Kia and have the reputation of not standing behind their warranties when things go really bad. How's that old saying go? "Fool me once - Shame on you, Fool me twice - Shame on me." Family and friends have had to deal with the Theta 2 engine issue where things got so bad they simply stopped making replacement engines and then told owners it was impossible to fix their cars because there were no more New Theta 2 engines or Used ones that could be repaired available. They could have and should have stopped producing those engines and installed the new engine model that replaced the Theta 2 however they just left people to deal with the defective engine design on their own. Then there are the transmissions that can't be made to shift correctly so owners are told just waste fuel and run them in Sport Mode all the time. Cars that burst into flames while parked with the owners told don't park them close to anything of value or even better just park them and disconnect the battery while we find the cheapest fix. This history makes their claims of Best Warranties, etc laughable since their warranty from our experience is only good for isolated problems that not many of their vehicles are having.
    I'm no longer willing to roll the dice and buy a Hyundai/Kia product and hope that nothing so major goes wrong that they will try to weasel their way out of making good for it.
    Best!

    We need EVs in the price range of a Civic, but 125 miles of range won't cut it for most people especially if the real-world range is less than 100 on the highway, 80 miles charging to 80%, even less in the winter. It's OK for around-town driving, but people in this price range want a vehicle that meets all of their needs. I wouldn't buy an EV with less than 250 miles of range (EPA estimated). These vehicles are close to the mark, but I expect them to sell to people who never take long road trips or who own another vehicle for long trips. We need economy EVs that don't cut the price by simply cutting the range.

    • @joshuarosen465
      @joshuarosen465 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't see a use case for something with 125 miles of range. Technically that's a city car, the problem with electric city cars is that people who live in cities don't have home charging. People who live outside of cities need more range than that. In a future world where there are a lot of on street chargers a city EV could work. But by the time that happens batteries will have become much cheaper and it will be possible to build a cheap car with a respectable amount of range.

    It’s a business model, they know vehicles will get into car accidents, and break down
    Will give the vehicle away for cheap, but will make all our profits back up on parts
    Now let’s talk about the battery
    The business model for EV, the cheaper, the car, the more outlander Lehi, with extremely high profit margins of their proprietary battery module
    They know they’ll make all the profits just selling the batteries
