      I get why people don't like it (the action and cinematography for a start) but Matrix 4 is genuinely a heartfelt big swing for the fences kind of movie and there's more to like about it than people give it credit for.

      Bear in mind this video deals with sequels that were better than they had the right to be. Sequels like Aliens, Terminator 2, The Empire Strikes Back, Toy Story 2, etc., had expectations that were met. Having said that, I don't agree with everything on this list. I'm surprised Predator 2 (the on set in Los Angeles) didn't make the cut...

      I went into that with such low expectations and figured it would be a D+ movie at best with a bunch of references to The Shining thrown in.

    Die Hard 3 was a great boost to the franchise. The 2nd installment was a contrived rehash of the first one. But I think that 3 wouldn't have worked as well as it did without Jackson and Irons in their great supporting roles. Cheers....

    • @Holland4evahh
      @Holland4evahh 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Only thing i dont like is the last 15 min(after the boat explodes)
      Its just a very simple ending that has no tension or anything special to remember. I give Die Hard 3 a 8 but would be higher with a better ending.

    • @bazzer124
      @bazzer124 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Holland4evahhI can go along with that. But then, every ending is gonna be a bit contrived - the hero wins, the bad guy dies. It's just a matter of does the villain fall 90 stories or get blown up on a plane or in a helo, etc, etc. Pick a gruesome death, insert and voila. Cheers....

    • @Holland4evahh
      @Holland4evahh 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bazzer124 Yeah maybe a different location(for example the same building as in the first movie that it is a empty building now and they are hiding there) and a little bit of a fight or just anything like Jackson being shot and we think he might die (iam not a writer otherwise i would earn more money)
      Now it feels like a amazing movie but like the writers and director did not know what to do with the last 15 min and just wrapped it up like they left it to some B director.

      @@BEWD1989 I always hate when films have good ideas and horrible execution. A new, upgraded Morpheus goes along with the lore of the Matrix being reformatted and upgraded every couple decades or so. I really thought that’s what they were going for and Neo isn’t actually “the one” anymore but he’s on a quest to find the new “one” or something like that. And what they gave us was a sloppily put together vampire novel with computer game references.

    Matrix 4 - sorry, I can't agree with the "they were forced to do it" narrative. I've read most everything available on the development of this movie and everyone had a choice to do it better, or not do it at all. There were so many problems with M4 but the question is - would this have been a 'good' film if this was the first film of the franchise? I suggest that most people would agree that it wouldn't and thus it simply can't be regarded favorably by me.

      @@ProfDanielVargasIf he did ST, the list would be twice as long, since there was that whole odd/even ST movie pattern. I don't blame him for leaving out SW. The mere mention is enough to trigger reactions from all sides of the fandom that even the clicks aren't worth the resulting drama. As content creators, you pick your battles. Yeah I think a little bit of his political affiliation is coming out here. With the comments about the US Military and such. ....kinda. I do think it's a bit over-rated, but i completely disagree that it goes all the way to bad.
      I also seem to be in the vast minority I didn't like maverick because it made absolutely no sense. the plot was nonsensical, the entire premise in 2022 was clearly written by people who know nothing about the navy or how war is fought. I get the needs of the plot, if they had just done what actually would have happened (the US's stealth bombers dropping super heavy bunker busters, or a wave of cruise missiles which has been the US doctrine since the original top gun came out) it wouldn't have been as much of a movie.
      But it ignores a massive plot hole where they think flying low is going to protect everyone, and in a mission in which stealth is vital, they don't use the F-35 at all, it's like they had no idea that short range SAMs are a thing, and flying low wouldn't work against modern radar systems (the country was very obviously meant to be Iran; but they had SU-57s....) and because they are hardcore nostolgia wanking, they use F/A-18s which would be seen by any ground based radar, or IRST targeting system.
      It's just dumb.

    One of the most surprising things about Psycho 2 was that it ignored Robert Bloch's 1982 novel of the same name but the fact that the original movie is more famous than it's source material maybe this wasn't such an unusual decision. There are other reasons why the Bloch story wasn't used but you will have to read it yourself to decide whether this was the right decision!

    Die Hard 3 was superb. One thing not highlighted here was that at the time it came out, Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson were still individually riding high off the back of their roles in Pulp Fiction, in spite of them not sharing screen time. But asides that, Bruce Willis' bankability as a star of 80s style action films was fading, and SLJ's previous roles had been largely supporting characters, often with a 'street' bent to them, so the idea of their archetypes being unwillingly thrust together into a buddy scenario is yet another example of JMcT being brilliantly meta. And of course, their on-screen chemistry was on point, which helped.

    It's funny that you say TOP GUN is the most MTV movie ever made and classify it as a glorified music video because that movie served as an inspiration for mexican singer Luis Miguel to shoot the music video for his song LA INCONDICIONAL in Mexico's military school, you gotta check it out...

    Rocky 5 was a bad movie and the fact that it was completely ignored in Rocky 6 proves it...
    Matrix 4 wasnt enjoyable! The viewer should not have to "understand" what a miracle it is that it happened the way it did, I was simply very disappointed after leaving the cinema...

    I've seen Fugitive and US Marshalls and for years I was like "oh those are similar enough I wonder if they're made by the same people." Eventually I mentioned it to a friend of mine and he told me they were in fact related lol

    I agree with most, if not all, of this list(never watched Exorcist 3). I would add in two more Stallone films in the mix: Rocky Balboa and Rambo(aka Rambo 4).

    US Marshalls was an awesome film and a good sequel. Fun fact I watched US Marshalls without knowing it was a sequel to the Fugitive until just now 😂😅. Thanks for that I didn't know and now I gotta watch the Fugitive

    Bro you can like Matrix Resurrections and that's fine, but saying "its way better than it had any right to be" is an frikin terrible take.
    That terrible fighting choreography - let alone the vomiting inducing shaking cam on the actions scenes...disgusting. It had some good ideas with the thing about unnecessary sequels, but if fails hard. It's not even good, let alone "way good that it had the right"

    The last boy scout is one of my top 10 favorites of all time, it's strange it never makes any of these lists. Anyone else notice how they only seem to mention movies that were very popular, excepting a few. There's so many great movies that they never put on any of the lists. I wonder why, they're clearly aware of them but we just hear about the same movies over and over.

    So after that Matrix 4 take, we can all agree that we can just stop watching once we hear “This is Ewan from WhatCulture” going forward? Guy usually has one really questionable take in his videos but this one is too far to take him seriously again.

    I'm stunned and profoundly appreciative of your love for Resurrections; people largely lack or refuse to utilize what analytical skills they possess in evaluating this movie, and also refuse to consider context and metaphorical nuance. It's a great film, and it's a shame few people seem to realize that.

    Nice to hear some praise for Resurrections. It's certainly flawed, with the parts in The Matrix being dull and monotonous with a few bright spots. But the scenes set outside The Matrix are extremely compelling, with clever discussions between compelling characters that feel like real people. Mind you, I'm not highly keen on the previous films, because I felt a lack of humanity from the characters.

    I try not to comment on these, but this time I have too. While the critique of Top Gun is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, I would love to have had more information of how Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer made this movie as...what it is..., rather than on Tony Scott.

    Mib 3 was a retcon? Watch the scene where k fights hard for smith to be an agent. It doesn't really make sense in the first movie even at first watch. It makes way more sense after the third. K had been closely watching him his whole life and knew more than what zed could see.
