      Thanks Rod. I'm finding quite a few good CDs in charity shops at the moment; so it certainly won't be nearly a year before I post another CD finds video. I really appreciate your kind words.

      Hi Barry. I agree. Willy Deville was an incredible talent. Until now I was only ever aware of the debut album.

      Hi Trish. I just can't get my head round people no longer liking CDs. It's the format which sounds closest to what the musicians/record producers/engineers hear in the recording studio. The CD jewel case is a design classic. Many CDs come with informative and visually appealing booklets. All the best, Carl

    Excellent pick-ups at great prices. That's one of my favorite Paul Simon albums, great singles from that one. Prince was back to form. Musicology is his best later period release, in my opinion. Two brilliant albums by one of my favorite artists; I really love the Lonely and Blue jacket. T-Bird Rhythm is right up my alley. Great finds, Carl

      Cheers Mark. I've yet to hear a Prince album I don't like. The Roy Orbison CD is perfection from start to finish. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Looks like quite a diverse collection of CD pickups Carl. I actually saw Mink DeVille in 1977 opening up for The Ramones and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers but I've never owned any of his music. I'm not familiar with Tullycraft but I am aware of the Fleet Foxes ( from Seattle as well.) That Paul Simon CD you have is outstanding. One of my favorites of his. I've got several Roy Orbison albums and I love them all.
    Nice job again Carl!

      Hi Tom. That was a quick response. I like charity finds because it encourages me to stray from my comfort zone. If there is anything I don't like, I simply donate it back to a charity shop ... I saw Mink Deville too in 1977, supporting Dr Feelgood. A memorable gig ... I thought you'd be aware of Tullycraft. They are still going strong, but it's the early material which I find charming. Their debut album is about to be reissued on vinyl (500 copies only) ... I didn't know Fleet Foxes were from Seattle. It's quite surprising how often I pick up stuff from there ... I've had that Paul Simon album on vinyl since the 70's. It's nice to hear it in immaculate sound quality on CD. My favourite of his, for personal sentimental reasons, is 'There Goes Rhymin' Simon' ... That Roy Orbison CD blew me away. I've only ever heard compilations before. Thanks as always for your support. Take care, Carl

    Very nice finds Carl. I have the first five DeVille records and he never gets mentioned. A shame, fab vibes and moody NY music as you mentioned. Top notch charity shops. Cheers.

      I saw Mink Deville live back in 1977. For a short while he was quite popular in the UK. I'm not sure if the later records even got released here. Such an incredible talent; you would have thought he would have been rediscovered by the next generation of musicians and music fans. It just needs someone like Scorsese to include one or two of his songs in a New York-based movie, and maybe people will start to realise how good he was ... There's a great quote from Doc Pomus in the liner notes of the CD I've got. I'll post it in another message later. Thanks for watching and commenting, Carl

    • @carltweed942
      @carltweed942  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Doc Pomus said, "Mink Deville knows the truth of a city street and the courage in a ghetto love song. And the harsh reality in his voice and phrasing is yesterday, today and tomorrow - timeless in the same way that loneliness, no money and troubles find each other and never quit for a minute. But the fighters always have a shot at turning a corner, and if you holler loud enough, sometimes somebody hears you. And the truth and love always separates the greats from the neverwases and the neverwillbes."

      @carltweed942  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Philip. 'Mixed Up Shook Up Girl' is the equal of anything by Van Morrison or Bruce Springsteen. Why was Willy Deville never a massive star? He had it all - charisma by the bucket-load, songwriting chops, great guitar playing, a unique musical vision, and a vocal full of attitude and emotion ... Prince delivers, even on the albums that were overlooked at the time of release ... I start to look like a mad professor if I grow my hair too long! All the best, Carl

    I really like Fleet Foxes..i have all their studio albums, Shore has some excellent songs and some guest vocal too if i recall correctly??..
    Paul Simons' debut is wonderful, i love Duncan on that one.
    Nice Orbison double..i almost picked up a copy of Mystery Girl the other day.
    The Vertebrats sounds up my street, i'll keep an eye out for that one.
    Nice one. 👍

      Hi Rob. My love for Paul Simon started with the second album I ever bought (Bridge Over Troubled Water). 'Duncan' is a great song. My favourite album though is 'There Goes Rhymin' Simon'. Like most of his albums, there is no filler and the lyrics are always perfect ... That Orbison twofer was a great find. You can understand why other musicians were in awe of him when you hear those two albums. The production is simply stunning ... Yes, the Vertebrats are worth checking out. They just about managed a couple of comp appearances and a single during their time together, but they have since achieved semi-legendary status. Take care, Carl

    We call them op shops in Australia:)
    My most recent find and my best is the White album by the Beatles and a 2 cd set of Creedence Clearwater Revival which is brilliant.
    $5 for the White and only $1.70 for the CCR.
    I am working on collecting all the Paul Simon Art Garfunkel as well as their albums when together.
    I picked up Wednesday 3 am (record)and it’s very good

    Such great finds, as always. I have to investigate Mink Deville....and I'm from the NYC metro area...lol. I do occasionally see that Prince album for cheap out in the wild. Will have to check that one out. Great stuff - always learn a lot from you.

      Hi Alan. I was watching your video on the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame inductees on my TV whilst having breakfast earlier. So, am I right in thinking these will all now be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the ceremony later in the year? I was also reading about the museum on their website. It looks like a special building. We did have in Sheffield, on a much smaller scale, a museum of Popular Music. Sadly it closed many years ago ... You definitely need to investigate Mink Deville! At his best, I think Willy Deville was the equal of Bruce Springsteen and Van Morrison ... I've reached the view that anything by Prince is worth getting. Take care, Carl

    great stuff carl. always fun hearing your well thought out takes on things. i used to work in the Brill Building. I worked for Broadway Video there (Lorne Michaels’ company). Loved working there, we used to hang on the roof that looked over Times Square. Agree with most of what ya said about Tilly & The Wall. I can certainly see where the tap dancing could get old after awhile. I’ll have to look into The Vertebrats.

      Hi Steve. You've had such an interesting career ... I've always been fascinated by the songwriters working at the Brill Building in the rock 'n' roll era. So many of those songs are timeless, continuing the standard set by the Great American Songbook writers in Tin Pan Alley ... The Vertebrats have become almost a legendary band. Well worth investigating. Thanks for commenting, Carl

      @@carltweed942 honestly the career should’ve been more interesting. bad decisions kept it from being more than it should’ve. oh well. such is life. yeh Brill Building history is legendary. From what I know it’s basically being turned into condos now. such a shame. all the creative companies that were housed there all got kinda run out. not even sure Broadway has any offices there anymore. maybe one floor.

      Sounds good ! Do you know.. Storyville ? One of my favorite bands !! I first saw them open for the Allman Bros. back in '96. Double Trouble with the great Malford Milligan on vocals, and one of my favorite guitarists David Grissom. "Good Day For The Blues" " Don't Make Me Cry" and "Solid Ground" are all good tunes off of A Piece Of Your Soul from 1996.. Their best selling album, an Austin, Texas band. Outstanding music, IMHO

    Hi Carl - Very nice additions. I have only heard the first Fleet Foxes album. I have never head that Prince record. IN fact, after the 80s, I lost track of Prince entirely. Looks like you found a high end charity shop!

      Hi Brian. I've reached the view that everything released by Prince is at least good, and a high proportion is excellent ... It's hardly a high-end charity shop! You still have to look through a lot of dross. But I've already listened to some gems for a future video, such as a brand new sealed Bruce Springsteen 'Only The Strong Survive' (part of a 3 for £1 deal).

      @@EmbryonicRobot It got to track 2 'Soul Days' on the Springsteen album and the lyric "Those yesterdays cruising in my Chevrolet/I held my baby in my arms/But my first love was always the songs", and I was totally hooked. You've got Springsteen's career summarised in the poetic lyrics of this song. I got to the end of the CD, and jumped up to put it on again from the start. That's a sign of a great record for me.
