I had the original CD of the Exploding Hearts album... and recently bought the CD reissue! LOVE that Durutti Album!! Died Pretty put out some great albums and are virtually unknown. SQUIRE!! Great Mod stuff! The Clash records STILL sound exciting and fresh today! Thanks for the shout-out, Carl! Pleasant surprise since I hardly ever show up on anyone's list! :)

The shout out was well deserved, as I admire your presentation style, your enthusiasm and the fact that you've introduced me to a few bands that passed me by. All the best, Carl

Yes, I thought that too when I dug it out to show. Arguably the best guitarist to come out of Manchester ... and there's a lot of competition. I really like all the vocal samples on 'Vini Reilly' and the touches of flamenco guitar.

I was born in 1990 but 1970s is my absolute favorite decade for music as well. Paul McCartney's RAM is one of my favorites, along with Tom Waits - The Heart of Saturday Night, and Jim Croce 's - Life & Times or Don't Mess With Jim albums. Nice video!

The 1990's were a good decade too - grunge, Brit Pop, the start of riot grrrl and lots of indie pop underground acts. I also liked some of the trance dance music ... I only really know a few of Jim Croce's most well-known songs. He wasn't a big star in the UK ...Thanks for your kind words!

Hi Harris. I'm a bit obsessed with Durutti Column at the moment. The best guitarist to ever come out of Manchester? Yep. Did you read the interview with Vini Reilly in The Guardian last year as part of your research? It's easily found if you google it. There's no mention of course of Tracy Chapman (and Annie Lennox) on the album credits, but I think you're right ... Your Dad had good taste ... Dugong were a local band for me in the early 2000's. I'd describe them as a bit like an English Fugazi or Cap'n Jazz. I saw them live a few times. Wakefield was positively awash with brilliant bands at the time - Pylon, Dugong, Milloy and the Cribs (whatever happened to them?) were the cream. You can find some tracks by Pylon, Dugong and Milloy at a TH-cam channel called twinnedwitherlangen The track 'Tonight This Is Perfect' is indeed perfect ... Rob did a good job with this year's tag. Cheers, Carl

I love Patti Smith, but Sinatra and Cash wow, heavyweights or what, I think we’d all be dumbstruck with those giants at the dinner party! Hi Mike. Happy new year. I'm really enjoying Durutti Column at the moment ... I think a dinner party with just Patti Smith might work better. She is so disarmingly honest and charming in the interviews I've seen. When I've seen her live, the love for her from the audience is extraordinary. I was going to have Laurel & Hardy at the dinner party, but I couldn't find my album of them singing ... I thought of you when I picked the Clash album sleeve. The greatest band ever ... I'm a bit disorganised at the moment watching the vinyl tag videos. I've enjoyed catching a few of them on the TV (including yours and most of the UK contingent), but need to re-watch them on my laptop so I can comment ... Re Amazon, it's amazing how the prices fluctuate on older items. The Beach Boys' 'Sail On Sailor CD box set was between £100 and £140 all last year, and then all of a sudden it dropped to £40. You have to be patient and keep checking on your saved items ... 'Basement Beehive' has gone up in price again on Amazon. Happy new year, Carl

Hi Carl. Thanks very much for the shoutout. I agree that Ram is Paul McCartney's best album. You don't often see The Durutti Column on the VC, they seem to be overlooked but they're a great Manchester band. The singles you showed were a highlight for me. Cheers Mike

Hi Mike, you're welcome. I've been following you since last year's vinyl tag. I'm hoping a few new people from the UK jump on the vinyl tag for 2024. Rob came up with some good questions - especially the one about an album sleeve you'd like to walk into ... I have watched your latest tag video on the TV, but I will be watching it again soon and posting a reply ... Funny, I thought of you when I picked out the Durutti Column. A brilliant guitar player with his own style. It was nice that he was included in '24 Hour Party People'. If you've not read it, there is a good interview with him from last year in The Guardian ... I must start showing more singles - I've done the odd video in the past. All the best for 2024, Carl

All of the 7" singles are brilliant. I love seeing singles that I don't own. Sundazed & Norton are my favorite reissue labels. Great funk title. JT's channel is a favorite of mine as well. Cheers, Carl

Hi Mark. Thanks for commenting. I should start showing 7-inch singles more. On top of being cool, they are easier to handle in front of the camera than albums ... You named two of my favourite reissue labels - Sundazed and Norton. I'm still haunted by a visit to a charity shop/thrift store a few years ago. Somebody was already rummaging through the small selection of records. They'd picked out some Norton label LP's in shrink for probably a pound each. I couldn't believe it. You never normally see stuff like that in charity shops ... JT is the best at finding the bargains! Have a great 2024, Carl

That's a lot of vinyl to digest here. The majority of those records you displayed I've never heard of. The one that caught my eye was The Exploding Hearts from Portland, Oregon. I've never heard of them but I going to look for it. I just researched them and it's such a tragic story. Loved the dinner party guests selection and the Sex Pistols analogy, I couldn't agree more with that album. I also view the channels of JT's and Norman Maslov as well, and I always enjoy your Power Pop Shakers series. That one I always look forward to.
    Another great video again Carl.

Hi Tom. Thanks for your kind words. It took a bit of time getting the answers together. I tried to have a mix of well-known stuff and some more obscure things that I really like (especially the 7-inch singles) ... The Exploding Hearts had so much potential. It is so desperately sad how it all ended. There are plans for there to be a documentary about them if the finances can be raised. There are a couple of tracks by them on my Power Pop Shakers playlist too ... The dinner party guests question was fun. I was going to have Laurel & Hardy at the party, but I couldn't find the album I have of them singing ... There will be another Power Pop Shakers video soon. I've already uploaded loads of tracks to the playlist, and just got waylaid by Christmas. All the best, Carl

    Great job Carl.
That Exploding Hearts has come up twice today in tags, sounds right up my ally as well I will have to seek that out.
    Paul was always busy.
    I went 70s as well.
I’ve certainly become more familiar with bands for Manchester after all these tags.
Loved all of the 7” didn’t know a single
One but the covers were very intriguing
Good party I would 💯 attend that party. Great guest add in at the end!
    Great funk
I have not not had the record everyone has, and not had the one no one has.
I will look for the power pop series.
    Great album
    To be on/in
Again great job sir very well done. I have Subed and look forward to future and precious content.

Hi Racer. Thanks for leaving a comment. The Exploding Hearts' debut had so much potential. If you like them, you'll probably find a lot more music to scratch your power pop itch on the 'Power Pop Shakers' playlist ... The party question was a good one, because it allowed your mind to wander. Same with the question about the album sleeve you'd like to step into .... Has anybody managed to keep up with all the vinyl tag videos? Even Rob Walker has struggled. I've not seen your video yet, but I WILL watch and leave a comment in the next couple of days. And thanks for subscribing to. It's much appreciated. All the best, Carl

That surprised me you pulling that one out. speaking of Redd Kross have u ever seen Desperate Teenage Lovedolls? Not that its a good movie but an interesting side note to their career. Good choice with Sex Pistols. Cool stuff.

Hi Steve. Just before I came on my computer I saw your vinyl tag video on my TV. I love watching on TV; the only downside is I can't leave a comment straight away. I will leave a comment soon(ish) .... If you're wanting to see the full list of vinyl tag videos, Rob Walker has set up a playlist ... I really enjoyed your video. I was reminded of the fact we've talked about the Muffs and the Hoodoo Gurus in the past. I would have loved to have known Kim Shattuck. At least I got to see her live once (in Manchester at a small club venue) ... The Exploding Hearts were special. There is possibly going to be a documentary about them, if the finances can be raised. You can check out their music on TH-cam. I particularly love the tracks 'Modern Kicks' and 'So Bored' ... I'd not listened to The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart for a long time. Their first album was great too. I didn't know until I did my video that Kip Berman has been recording for a while as The Natvral (I hate deliberately mis-spelled names), and his latest album came out last summer ... I've not seen 'Desperate Teenage Lovedolls', but I've checked and it's on TH-cam. Thanks for watching and commenting. I'll try to keep in touch more in 2024, Carl
