Very interesting Carl, its a great way to get a collection together or curate with other formats. I've been getting the odd tape when they're cheap. The cassette community is growing 👍
Hi Stevie. Seeing cassettes in charity shops for as little as 20 pence, it would be rude not to buy them. Now I'm starting to build up a tiny collection, I can see the appeal ... Quite a few new releases include a cassette format. It's usually just added to the vinyl as a free extra and is shown as a separate record sale. Thanks for commenting. All the best, Carl
Once again, I am reminded that it was stupid to get rid of my cassettes all those years ago. I felt the same way about Joe Jackson at the time. Whenever I see cassettes at the local thrift stores (charity shops), they are dismal, in very bad shape, and not interesting at all. I have never cared for Pipes of Peace, but The Nightfly and New York are favs of mine. Very cool finds, Carl.
Hi Brian. I used to make up mixtapes and record stuff off the radio, but I never bought pre-recorded tapes. It's something new for me. It's like starting a record collection all over again, because you find yourself buying the 'classics' which make up the core of most collections. All the best.
Nice to see a cassette finds video Carl. I've been picking up quite a few at boot sales over the past few years but putting them straight into a box. I spent last night sifting through some of them, giving them a test listen and binning the knackered ones. So I'm now a step closer to giving them a listen thanks to you...
I still have a couple shoe boxes full of cassettes that I bought/taped in the 80s and early 90s, but I don't have a decent cassette deck to play them with. I do have a low-quality boombox (cheap, a few years old) with a tape player and CD player.
@@RekkidTalk Same here. There's a lot of MOR stuff/mainstream pop stuff which doesn't appeal. But then that's the same when looking through CDs or vinyl. You need a lot of patience and perseverance!
@@chrisgale5634 Oxfam prices, for example, are a joke. I support the smaller charities. Plus there is very little correlation between what I consider to be 'good' music and what is supposedly 'valuable'.
I virtually never see cassettes (maybe because I've slagged them off most of my life) i liked making compilations back in the day and with older cars it was the only way to listen to prerecorded music. Also i no longer have a separate tape deck i tried to salvage it but the shop said don't bother whereas the minidisc deck just needed a new little belt. I don't have any versions of REM monster but want to hear it again. Not heard for it yonks. Lou Reed love that one. Fagen for the cover alone can't think of any other sleeve with an actual record player on it. Nice one Carl.
Hi Martin. I used to just blank-out cassettes if I was in a charity shop or car boot sale. I actually quite like them now I've taken the plunge ... I did make mix-tapes too back in the day ... I remember you showing your minidisc collection. It's a format that must have sold in small numbers because I don't recall ever seeing any out in the wild ... I'm not a big fan of 'Monster'. Still one of my favourite bands ever though ... 'The Nightfly' is perfect from start to finish ... I played 'Master Of Pop Hits' by Media Whores the other day. That's got a record player on the sleeve. Thanks for commenting. Cheers, Carl
Hi Carl - great to see cassettes - definitely something about the sound sometimes being more satisfying than both CD's and vinyl. Alas as has been mentioned I regret getting rid of my large cassette collection , I did keep a few rarities . Some really nice finds and the alternative artwork is sometimes interesting. Best Graham
I don't think I've ever seen a cassette review before. That's quite a novel idea Carl. Big fan of the tracks Fearless by Pink Floyd and Changing Of The Guard by Bob Dylan. New York by Lou Reed is my favorite record of his. Those David Bowie and Little Feat cassettes I've never seen before in any form. I also still like and listen to The Night Fly by Donald Fagan. Another tip-top show Carl. Nice Job!
I'm probably heading into a very niche area here! It makes a change from just showing vinyl or CD's. I may even start showing some DVD's (a mix of music-related and movies) ... It also got me talking about some more well-known albums that I probably wouldn't have otherwise got round to talking about ... 'Meddle' is special ... 'New York' is certainly one of Lou Reed's very best albums ... I think that David Bowie comp is quite rare now, as Bowie got control of his RCA catalogue and made sure that 'Fame And Fashion' was never re-released ... I don't think I've ever seen 'Representing The Mambo' on vinyl of CD ... I'd forgotten how listenable 'The Nightfly' is. There's not a bad track on it ... As always, thanks for watching and commenting!

Hi Dale. I'm pleased to hear I've got you sorting through your cassettes. Many thanks for commenting.
Great haul, that pink Floyd is really amazing
Thanks. It took a while to find these. Charity shops aren't as good as they used to be ... Really love 'Meddle'.

Hi Chris. It's worth getting a tape deck to get the best out of your cassettes. Do you come across old cassettes in thrift stores/antique malls?
@@carltweed942 Yes, although most of them are of artists I don't want.

Hi Graham. Yes, based on my limited listening to cassettes, I would say that they sometimes sound better. Cheers, Carl
