I guess I don't understand...you only have 36 videos, only a year in and yet you have almost 7k subscribers and each of your videos are getting thousands of views...you are doing quite well...Take a look at the ratio of views to subscribers that most have on each of their videos and realize your views per video to subscriber ratio is well above average...not sure about your retention stats within the videos - most shoot for 50% - if you are anywhere near that you are doing well...I don't see any problem here that your video talks about, motivation? Look at those commenting including myself and realize you are doing very well...maybe your feeling a comparison trap? Look at stats for those on youtube, you are in the upper % of those who are on here...obviously keep going, be very thankful for where you are and where the channel is going...
This is a really good comment. I'm 19 videos in and feel like I'm doing ok. But, the slow growth makes it seem like I'm struggling. It's just a bit of a slog isn't it. Have fun with the slog!
@@JohnSchneidersWildLifeYes it's easy to forget the long game...part of it being the easy solutions pushed all over the place...yet when you look and realize the "overnight" success that really works has a longer journey behind it...while those that get it earlier often lack the experiential wisdom to keep it going...keep targeting what you have direct control over (producing better videos each time) vs the outcomes beyond your direct control (views, subscribers, comments, likes) and I think it becomes a lot more fun and the "slog" becomes joy within the process because in the end it's not just about producing videos for YT but what it does for the rest of you at the same time...
Agreed, there is this idea that you have to get 100k subs in one year otherwise you suck but most of TH-camrs don’t even get to 1k in one year it takes time but we want everything now
@@YoyoadventureIndeed, it takes time and a dedicated commitment to the overall journey less hijacked by the immediate outcome, falling in love with the process, connection, all of it - allowing for frustration, all the emotions to flow through you, let them out and then pick up the camera and keep on going...
My brother shared this with me because I have been feeling exactly what you describe in this video - frustration, impatience and wanting to give up. But watching this video and knowing I’m not alone is so comforting. Thank you for opening up about this and discussing a subject early creators struggle with. Almost like a TH-cam creator mental health genre we all need! Good luck on your 100k journey!
I have been an avid viewer TH-cam since 2009, I only started documenting my journey since late 2021 during the Pandemic created over 300+ videos. I haven't had massive success or growth. Each day I am grateful for each view. But it takes perseverance.. I am still here.
Thanks for sharing dude. This felt more like a friend or mentor chatting to me, rather than a random person I've never met. I just want to say I feel you. You're certainly not alone. Keep going.
I am here chasing the long term growth strategy. I have learnt to look like an idiot at the moment but keep my eye on the goal. Thank you for this video, I will come back to give feedback one day.
I had 1.2k subs after one year. 30k after 2, 60k after 3 and now I’m at 72k. You’ll get there, it’s not always easy. You seem to get and accept that part of it though. You had some really solid thoughts in your reflection. One word I would add to what you said would be “resilience.” Resilience might be the most valuable trait when growing a TH-cam channel. Fall down, get back up. Fall down, get back up. Over, over and over again. Day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year. 👍🏻
i also think optimizing for depth vs. breadth looks super different & you have to be honest with yourself about which one is more important to you. i would never click + watch 'secret algorithm to blow up your youtube' + don't think those types of video build a connection/relationship with the audience as much as these ones do. I also agree with the other comments that your channel's view to sub count is super solid and your comments obviously show depth/relationship built with the audience so i think you're putting way too much pressure on it. enjoy the journey, the success is inevitable, "the score takes care of itself" and all. :)
I feel ya. My lowest performing videos happen to be what I'd rather do more videos about long term, the higher performing are the...silly videos that I'm not super interested in continuing to do. I see so many creators just selling out completely, redoing ideas time and time again because they get them views. What I can't understand is, why are people watching the same videos over and over, with different titles and thumbnails but essentially the same boring overplayed content? It's bizarre. I'll try not to be a sellout....Good luck to you Jay Alto.
Really helpful it’s so hard to keep going on when you put so much effort and not see any results. The temptation to do something you dislike but “trendy” is strong but it’s a trap. I will keep doing what I like even tho it might not work
Jay, I bought the book, Flow, because of your flop video. It may have been a flop in reaching a wide audience but every single one of your videos is an absolute joy to watch so I don't consider it a flop at all! We're in this for the infinite game, let's keep going baby!!! I downloaded Goodbye Metrics extension to hide stats on my TH-cam Studio so I no longer get stressed about numbers -- just like you said, the numbers don't matter when you're going to post for decades!
Great attitude and a message I need to hear. It often feels pointless, grueling, like I'll never get better, etc., etc., etc. Thanks for sharing that positive, growth mentality!
Thinking in the longterm is so key, my biggest mistake is trying to make viral videos that (don't build the brand, don't have my personlity, don't build a fan base) those videos may do good but they make you worse off because then you get stuck trying to make a viral video everytime that you may not even like. It's a marathon not a race is what I have heard from so many giant youtubers, also great video this stuff is the best
I've been uploading consistently to TH-cam for 3.5 years, and you have more subscribers than I do! 😹 Being honest though, my first 100 videos were pretty rubbish. I completely agree with you. You have to love the creation process, as well as be passionate about the topic you're covering, in order to push through the difficult times. I feel a lot of people give up when they do not reach monetisation, or when they realise how little Adsense pays. I see income from the YPP as a bonus, although I'm hoping to turn this into a full time job in time. If you give up, you'll definitely never make it on TH-cam! Good luck for the year ahead! 😻'
I honestly loved these raw out loud thoughts. It's just the reality of life for everything new that you do. If you're not liking what you're failing at, you should stop right now. Finally a video that doesn't have to sell you fake and predictable motivational speeches. 😊
yes, this mindset is everything when it comes to seeing success on TH-cam and so motivating and refreshing to see that someone else is going through the same stuff, the same thoughts. It is so easy to get discouraged by seeing all these big numbers that other TH-camrs have where as they were going through the same stuff, the same thoughts back in the days as well.
With hindsight I guess 100k in one year was a bit ambitious! Growth on TH-cam is simply harder than other socials. However, i bet if you kook at your view counts, you'll be getting similar view counts to some channels with 100k+. And that's more important really. Also, as you see from the comments, there are some people who really loked your chat about Flow. Great book by the way. And I'm always amazed by some of my 10 out of 10s which grow to be great little videos, sometimes taking off three years after publishing! Cheers, keep going and keep enjoying it. 🙂
I've been following and liking for a while, I love that you're stayiing true to your values and being REAL!! My favorite channels have that in common. You have an impact!
You are doing very well! I am currently over 100 episodes in and im celebrating my 1 year anniversary but havent reached 100 subs yet. I am playing the long game but consistency and developing your page with slight improvements after each video will garner impressive results. Salute 🎉
I have been uploading in the gaming space for over a year with weekly videos edited and thumbnailed and in the past few months streams too and I'm only at 82 subs. But I'm growing. It's true growth is hard especially in a flooded market like I'm trying at but success is always right around the corner.
lol whats worse is when you have a couple videos really take off you think you have it figured out and then you have a flop .. but like you I just keep going .. i'm hard headed like that .. keep it up I enjoy your content
“When you think in the long term, you have to be prepared to look like an idiot in the short term.” Is one of the best quotes I’ve ever heard that pertains to TH-cam. Subbed for that quote alone. Really good stuff and I look forward to more of your videos. 2:28
great video, def inspires me to keep going, thanks alot. four years in, still under 300 subs, but it is still fun. especially being able to go back in time with your own past videos.
I relate to this so much! I started almost 1 year ago and it has been an absolute roller coaster of emotions. One day I'm motivated excited and feel like I've hacked the algorithm, the next I'm completely rethinking whether or not I'm going in the right direction. It's like you have to be obsessed in a way to succeed, yet shouldn't be too obsessed that you forget why you're doing it. Bottom line: you're spot on, and you're not alone. You putting out content like this is encouraging because just the simple fact of knowing I'm not the only one that feels this is encouragement enough! You're helping a ton of creators!! Only a matter of time before the value you're adding is recognized on a massive scale. Keep going!
Hey Man, I can relate with this. I like your honest and candid conversation. I started my channel May last year and I feel like I have experienced it all. I have produced some videos which honestly I thought were great but time and again they jeep flopped to the lowest end 10/10! Its disheartening sometimes but since I enjoy making the video I have just decided to overlook the metrics. Because if I do, trust me I won't have the power no will to produce my next vlog.
Would love to hear your take on why TH-camrs are quitting? I’m sure what you covered in this video comes into it but think you’d have a good perspective on it
There's no such thing as overnight success and if there where that success will never stand the test of time, great things needs time to become great. I am on the same journey, i have so many ideas that sometimes can overwhelm me but I've put in effort to make my dreams a reality by creating this TH-cam channel which was late last year. The amount of effort i put into the video vs the results i received is traumatic but because i understand nothing worthwhile comes quick I'll keep grinding, I'm committed to making this full-time as i have lots of ideas and stories to share.
Hi Jay, I love your channel and listening to your takes on things. I’ve taken a few risks recently and it hasn’t paid off, but every single video is a lesson!
It's sad to see the last video flopped, as I probably enjoyed that one more than most others! I've also been a subscriber since day one, and for what it's worth, despite not achieving your goals, I've really enjoyed every episode! Don't stress too much! Keep making what you want to make and it will grow!
I can relate to every bit of line in this video. I have started 3 channels one at 2.3k one at 1.45k and the last which you are seeing this comment from at around 800. Two of them stopped growing the last I lost interest in trading. Now I started a new one on January 14th and I'm currently on 78 subs as at March 1st 2024 I don't know if thats fast or slow but one thing I know is the higher your subscribers the faster you get new Subs. Its just the human mentality. I am not giving up on this new one because its what I love and to be truthful to myself I want to avoid looking at the analytics and just keep providing educational videos to help me learn to edit better and easier. I hope 🙏🏾 and I believe with God strength in me I will come back to this comment and update positive things and smile in Joy. Thanks for this video.
My friend, you have 6.6K subscribers in only one year. Praise God, count your blessings, appreciate 6.6K subscribers and every view you get, and be thankful for what you have while striving for what you want. Otherwise, excellent advice in the rest of the video. Peace.
Nice to see an honest approach to this... I went into my channel with this in mind and looking forward to an organic natural progression.... Glad to see this honesty! Thanks!
I always find your video's so inspiring. It motivates me to not follow a routine that gives me viral video's on short term. I don't want that viral video's on short term because it will always remind me of the amount of views I could have if i just do that. Thank you for the inspiration in your video's! I keep watching, so keep going! :D
Hi Jay. I thought you might be interested to hear that your video got recommended to me - as a fellow creator I tend to get videos about TH-cam content creation served up. I hadn't seen your channel previous to this. I am fully onboard with what you're saying - you have to treat every video as an experience, as learning. And you also have to stay true to your views and create content that you enjoy without trying too hard to chase what will get huge views and satisfy the algorithm. Of course you have to work with the system and go for a little 'clickbait' here and there, but there's no point making content if you don't enjoy it or believe in it. We should be creators first and foremost to enjoy what we do rather than aiming for money or even 'fame'. Though that will come anyway if we create great videos that we are passionate about. Cheers and all the best :)
So if a video totally flops, is it best to just delete it? Dose youtube judge a channel negatively if there are videos with low or no views on a channel?
Hahaha. Welcome to the club. It seems you are doing not that bad at all. I refuse to do what needs done. I have fun making the videos I do of the places I go. That I will not change. I just need time to learn the skills to do it. That is my biggest problem. Slowly getting there.
I literally got my 1K subs after TWO years because I refuse to do short-term viral strategies and lose who I am to the algorithm... I love this long-term approach and love that you shared Jack Butcher's visual. That's what I imagine every time I want to give up. Thank you for this video!
Your channel Jay, is a philosophy and creativity channel… atleast that is how I’ve come across your channel and subscribed (I love both these areas) but also the impression I got from your many videos…I’m not sure if you were going for that? By nature, philosophy/creativity based commentary will tend to grow slower than other niches but they often have a more dedicated, passionate audience. So perhaps that may also play a role as to why, despite your videos being one of my recent favourites to watch…the community is taking longer to grow … (just my two cents) Please don’t stop 🙏🏼
Hey Jay, is almost unbelivable that this video only have 3K views by now. You have plenty of comments, certainly a great retention that conects with a lot of us. But, as you said, the long term will pay off. Thanks for the great video.
All about the long term. Love the channel, keep it up! I just have to get consistent but I travel a lot for my business so I am thinking of switching up what I do somewhat. Guess we will see where it goes. Side note - I have lately been leaning towards subscribing to smaller channels because they seem more genuine and it's more about the message. Just my opinion but anyways...Have a great weekend!
Now, I have basically no subscribers and have only really uploaded shorts but I do watch a lot of TH-cam. And I have some notes and questions. First, how the heck do you do a 5 minute one take that sounds that good? Like thats insane to me for some reason. Also i feel like your branding could be a little better. Just a yellow profile picture is an interesting choice for branding but i feel like it is so similar to a default that it just doesn't quite match in my opinion. And finally, I feel like the editing could make the video pop just a bit more, personaly i don't think it needs much more but just like some jump cuts or J cuts as well as a few more visuals may go a long way. But for the editing i can understand why you might not do that if you want to keep the astetic of a single take. Other than that, I feel like everything is there. Also i love the video, these were just some first thoughts i had and thought they might be at least of some assistance feel free to ignore. 😅
I guess TH-cam is just about luck, some people has a bad quality of video or bad thumbnails and descriptions but getting so much views and the others doing everything right and getting something about 1-2K and it's not worth it
1000% relating to this, your channel is quickly becoming a favorite, and you feel much more 'close' to where I am currently (new channel) I enjoy watching people like you, and personally liked the last video. But flops definitely speedrun the learning process. Cheers, Jay!
Great reminder, thank you, Jay! I'm absolutely going through the same ups and downs trying to build my channel and trying to figure out what works. Love your videos and how you stay true to yourself! 🚀
Love this great and strong advice! This is the painful reality of starting a TH-cam channel: success doesn't come overnight. It demands consistent effort and entails facing lots of competition. It's like a rollercoaster ride, with plenty of ups and downs. Thank you for giving us this great advice on how to pursue our long-term strategy on TH-cam and for reminding us to just keep going. If it's a rollercoaster, I think we just need to enjoy the ride!
When I get 3 views on a video, I pop champagne! Like what? Somebody actually watched my video? I dance like I won the lotto. Sometimes, I upload a video and get zero views for 3 days and I keep checking like a little kid waiting for a text from a girl he likes. Nothing. And then, just like magic, 1 view, then 2, then 3. "I'm rich!", I yell. 😆🤣. TH-cam is serious therapy. Be happy. I'm grateful. Thx for the vid.
This video has way more value than those on other channels based on retention editing. Substance and relatability. I can relate - I've been on the journey for 6 years, and I'm about 30 away from my 10K milestone. Jay, you got this!
Thank you for the content. Anyway, i like to suggest you something. I think it's much better if you've a script written by you. so you wont be stucked while talking, right? anyway, you do this well and bye.

Big risk, big reward
It's sad to see the last video flopped, as I probably enjoyed that one more than most others! I've also been a subscriber since day one, and for what it's worth, despite not achieving your goals, I've really enjoyed every episode! Don't stress too much! Keep making what you want to make and it will grow!
Next weeks video will explain my thoughts on that in more detail
Let’s go man you gonna make it
One day
Exactly what I needed to hear after uploading a few flops... Thanks for this
It happens to the best of us
Keep GRINDING, you're gonna get there 100%. Its all about the journey B)
Doesn’t matter if it’s fast or slow, just keep at it (and enjoy the ride)
My friend, you have 6.6K subscribers in only one year. Praise God, count your blessings, appreciate 6.6K subscribers and every view you get, and be thankful for what you have while striving for what you want. Otherwise, excellent advice in the rest of the video. Peace.
Thank you.
Very inspirational, im going to go back to editing that video I've been procrastinating because of this!
Get it done!
hi i needed this thank you subscribed
love your channel. it actually made me come back to my dormant channel after years, ready to do weekly videos. Keep it up, we enjoy your content.
The best feedback I can get - welcome back
This video is a 1 out of 10 in my heart ❤
And that’s all that matters
You're doing better than me after my first year 🙌 in it for the long game wears thin after the third year of trying 😂 hopefully we'll get there 😬
See you in year 10
My recent videos have been absolutely plummeting, and I feel like the time of quitting is coming close. Thanks for this video.
This was very helpful!
I’m glad
Nice to see an honest approach to this... I went into my channel with this in mind and looking forward to an organic natural progression.... Glad to see this honesty! Thanks!
I feel like a failure now. 😕 Dude is disappointed with 6k+ subs in one year? I think you're doing quite well.
I hear ya man!
I always find your video's so inspiring. It motivates me to not follow a routine that gives me viral video's on short term. I don't want that viral video's on short term because it will always remind me of the amount of views I could have if i just do that. Thank you for the inspiration in your video's! I keep watching, so keep going! :D
I’m glad I could help!
I am in this journey with you as well
Glad to have you sir
you got it 👍
Appreciate this video
You're doing TH-cam better than me. I started 3 years ago and I'm not close to your subscriber base.
Keep going
Here's to playing the long game ✊
Amen
you got this

I'm 8 years in, 2,070+ videos, and I get ~20 views per upload. I think you're doing quite well.
If you’re having fun, there’s no need to rush!
So perhaps that may also play a role as to why, despite your videos being one of my recent favourites to watch…the community is taking longer to grow … (just my two cents)
Please don’t stop 🙏🏼
I agree (and love how your described the channel - exactly what I’m going for)
@@thejayalto Keep going !
Hey Jay, is almost unbelivable that this video only have 3K views by now.
You have plenty of comments, certainly a great retention that conects with a lot of us. But, as you said, the long term will pay off.
Thanks for the great video.
When you say your video last week flopped - well you may want to try changing thumbnail and/or title unless the AVD is the problem
Thank you, sir. Likewise, have a good one
I have 41 subscribers and it's been a year. TH-cam is hard work. Giving up is not an option
I guess TH-cam is just about luck, some people has a bad quality of video or bad thumbnails and descriptions but getting so much views and the others doing everything right and getting something about 1-2K and it's not worth it
1000% relating to this,
your channel is quickly becoming a favorite, and you feel much more 'close' to where I am currently (new channel)
I enjoy watching people like you, and personally liked the last video. But flops definitely speedrun the learning process. Cheers, Jay!
Means a lot. Appreciate you, sir.
My life's philosophy has always been "Don't stop moving". I think you nailed it with this video.
That’s a good life philosophy. Might steal it.
Feels very Casey.
@@thejayalto Thanks! It is ironic, though, compared to Casey, I am very low intensity and low energy. I am abit more of the tortoise than a hare.
Great reminder, thank you, Jay! I'm absolutely going through the same ups and downs trying to build my channel and trying to figure out what works. Love your videos and how you stay true to yourself! 🚀
I appreciate you
content jesus lets gooo
My guy

Congratulations, Doug! 100k in no time.
Thank you for the content. Anyway, i like to suggest you something. I think it's much better if you've a script written by you. so you wont be stucked while talking, right?
anyway, you do this well and bye.
Your channel is by far my favorite of the ones I discovered last year. Love the content
Means a lot mate, thank you.
