I'm currently working as a data analyst and I gotta say my experience and feelings are so similar to yours. I participated in a lot of photography contests in the past few years, did a few paid shoots, generally just went out there taking as many photos and videos as I liked. It was emotionally gratifying but financially unsustainable (yeah gear is expensive af). I wish I could quit my day job and go all in into photography but pursuing your dreams/passion is a privilege not many can actually afford, not to mention starting a photography business means sacrificing a lot of the creative freedom in order to please your clients. Some day I might be able to make it work, but until then I guess I'll continue to shoot photos and videos as a hobby. Congrats, you earned a sub from Malaysia!

Definitely go for it, despite frustration at the algorithm and disappointment at the lack of traction for something you've spent time and effort creating, the actual process of making something from absolutely nothing is pretty enjoyable. Go for it.

TH-cam is like a lottery at times. I had a small video clip (just a single uncorrected take of 45s or so) on another channel. By mistake, it was public instead of private. After a year or so I noticed that it got many many views. Also, the subscriber number increased. When I had 1000+ subscribers I monetized the channel. The video went up to 1.3 million views and I got Euro 77 or a little bit more for it. Another video about the same subject, but edited was almost completely ignored. Just do it for fun!
I was looking for reviews for the XT30ii and I ran into you and your goofy personality. Because of you I made the purchase and I'm loving it. I enjoy watching your awkwardly-funny content. Keep it up my man! 🙃
I have a tiny channel and had a video a few months ago that actually got some traction and got some nice views....then my last video tanked and is hated by the algorithm gods apparently because it didn't get pushed at all. this is so much inspiring for me .. thanks a lot... i often think about people not recognizing my work after hours and hours of work and then end up not doing it, but after this video I'm gonna change it cus I'll do that for myself 😊cus i know that is what makes me happier
I love your honesty! If I may say so, don’t give up your computing job, it provides you enough money to enjoy photography and YouTubing with as much freedom as you want, without the awful pressures.
I too have a passion for photography and recently confirmed my love for cinematography with the purchase of a A7Sii from my former VFX studio that had to shutdown. I have made a YT channel that will eventually capture my exploits traveling the world by sailboat, but I am not going into it thinking I will become some YT star. I just like the process, to emulate the greats and if people stumbled upon it, that be a nice side effect. So even if we both spend way too much on gear, it doesn't matter, we made something creative and beautiful, hopefully someone else thinks that too along the way. Plus the fresh air and walking is good for you.

Nonetheless, if you love doing it, then keep going! From what I've learned it can take a lot of videos before it starts to gain traction.
I started long ago, had ideas of making a living on youtube. Reality for me I make nothing so I keep at my day job, which is photography so that's good, on youtube I love the whole process of learning and trying to Improve, it's a great creative outlet. I do it now for my own enjoyment and if I pick up a few subs and a quid along the way that's a bonus. I'd advise you to do it it's fun.
I can totally relate with you man, I am also pursuing a degree in IOT and photography is my passion. I love coding too, but anyhow I make time to do photography and explore places, for which I was recently called in HOD's cabin. I believe our love for photography is eternal. BTW love your videos and your passion.

It's an investment of your time, energy and money. It's only a dumb idea if you only view immediate monetary return as a basis for success. Very few businesses make a net profit in the first few years, and TH-cam is no different. Keep growing and improving and it'll come good eventually. And even if it doesn't, just consider the personal and professional growth you'll receive from creating weekly content over the span of a few years. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Good luck on your journey brother - you got this 💪🏻

You've got the fundamentals down and the enjoyment seems good. 2.5K subs is nice and the view counts you get look promising. Heck yeah man keep it up let's see how far you can take this. Photography is a weird topic with lots of content on TH-cam but there's so much to explore with tons of room left that content creators can't fill. I'd try and avoid topics that are too 'general' like reviewing newish cameras or popular lenses and dive into weird cool stuff you find when fiddling around with things you have. Then you'll always have an audience and never have to compare with others.

I’m impressed with your heart felt discussion of why you are starting a TH-cam photography channel at this time in your life. Often our rational mind tells us one thing while the heart tells us something else. Most of the time the mind gives you the safe way to go while the heart gives you off the grid possibilities that can pay off incredibly. There’s nothing worse than fifty years from now you wake up in the middle of the night, the hour of the wolf wondering what if I had followed that path I didn’t take but that I was very passionate about. Do it. Perhaps down the line you will see a whole new way to combine your coding/programming and some aspect of photography and cinema that makes you a massive financial success. Take the ride and do it.

I'm a web developer too and subscribe to your channel, and then recently I am being interested in photography scratching the YT for photography tips etc and then found your photography channel :)
Very good video! I have been a professional photographer for over 40 years. Next year in 2025 I am going full time TH-cam, obviously there will be a huge drop in money for a good while as I'm only at 1,100 subs! However I am older and had a stroke few years back, and in a bad car wreck that messed up my back. So we decided that in 7 years our TH-cam channel should bring in a decent amount of money with affiliates and YT. Also I don't think I could physically shoot many more 8-10 hour weddings or photograph 100 seniors on a Saturday. Having done photography for 40 years helped with the YT part of lighting, and then a learning curve in audio (Slowly getting it tweaked). Learning editing has been the hardest part. I have just learned it all on my own and I still have a long way to go with editing. Social Blade FWIW says we should be at around 120,000 subs in 5 years. So bottom line as I get older the channel will be getting bigger and bringing in more money that I could make due to health reasons. Plus people trained me, I had some great photography friends in Atlanta that took me under their wing and helped me along the way. I even got a call from one of them to go photograph George H Bush, I was only 17 (Started at 15) I couldn't believe they would ask me to do something like that, but I did and it worked. Sorry to ramble on, It seems we have a lot of seasons in our lives, once I was the young kid asking questions, now most of the ones who trained me have passed away, and TH-cam is my way of giving back like it was given to me! You strike me as someone who will be very successful! Loved your video and I didn't mean to write a book, lol.. Thanks!

Yes I spent a lot of time next to school learning programming

I am not sure at this point - but - there are no photos in your Video. Do you really enjoy making videos about you holding a Camera and calling it a Photography Channel. Do you wanna show your Photos, or and thats a big OR - do you enjoy making Videos? Because thtats what it seems like
