    • @TheBlackQueen
      @TheBlackQueen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was actually done with the floyd rose tremolo bar. He unscrewed it from the guitar and ran it across the strings muted. It makes the notes more defined and clean than a pick would. I would assume that he does it with a pick live because it would be impossible to unscrew it during the solo.

  • @mitchhaelann9215
    @mitchhaelann9215 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    That lifting-trick was him using the 'whammy bar'. It's s special thing some electric guitars have that changes the tension on the strings, changing the entire sound the guitar makes on the fly. A skilled electric guitarist can make his instrument sound like four or five different instruments. Herman Li got the strings going to make the notes, then changed the notes without touching the strings by playing with the Whammy.
    Dude is definitely a master at his craft.

    • @ShaggyRogers1
      @ShaggyRogers1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Being able to use the whammy bar appropriately takes skill. Combining that whammy bar movement while using it to physically lift the guitar up is an entirely different level of muscle memory.

    Once you're a hip hop head and metal head and realize the talent that it takes to make great music in both worlds the more you realize that mainstream radio and the music industry has an agenda behind it and that that music is DOGSHIT! Metal and REAL hip hop take massive skill, creativity and musicianship and it is all from the heart not some ghostwriters or cookie cutter formula. One in the same, different ends of the spectrum. Also, that pacman sound did come from the guitar!!! He scraped the strings lightly with his guitar pick.

    When he lifts the guitar at the begining, he uses the strum handle (pretty sure it's not called that), and it's basically the vebrato on an electric guitar. It's basically the same as those little half wheels on piano keyboards you can move up and down. It's purpose is so that you can get some widdley-wee by only holding one note.

    To explain "how he do that?" when it comes to the noises at 1:52 and 4:40
    Both Herman Li and Sam Totman have guitars equipped with something called a "Floyd Rose bridge." Without getting too tecnical, this bridge can pivot forward and backwards through use of an arm (you can see the thin piece of metal in Herman's hand during the 1:52 trick, you can also see Sam's pointing backwards at 1:49) and change the pitch of the notes being played.
    In fact, your "Air Guitar" has the same type of bridge system, it's the large black shape with a bent line coming off it furthist away from where you put your left hand (the neck). Heck, your air guitar seems to be designed to look like an Ibanez brand, the same brand Herman's using in the video.

    Vadim Pruzhanov was the keyboard player at the time this video was made. He’s unbelievable and worth checking out online. He’s basically retired now, sadly. BTW that video game sound is done by running the pick across the strings on the guitar’s headstock and using a wah-wah pedal to enhance it.

    Saw them in concert once. One of the best parts was when the keyboard player busted out a keytar and did a music 'battle' with one of the guitar players to give the rest of the band a break.

    They're not mentioned in discussions of rock guitarists because they're a metal band. they're great and I'd kill for just 1/100th of their taleng but rock is not metal. different genre.

    • @heatherlowe7330
      @heatherlowe7330 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why does rock need subgenres? It's all rock n roll to me: classic, metal, grunge, punk, alternative, and whatever else the powers that be may come up with. Rock is rock. You don't need a label to enjoy it 😁

    • @JarekBaldrian
      @JarekBaldrian 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heatherlowe7330 Because people are morons and its not always clear for them. Example so called Southern Rock ... is it rock or is it blues? It does fit both now doesnt it? Hence subgenre "Southern Rock". For instance Punk has nothing to do with rock either, punk is lifestyle a way of thinking, but it was not always rock music, for example Clash or Death Kennedys, but since people forgot, its always binded with era of Sex Pistols, Ramones, Exploited and the likes, therefor it is called Punk. Even it makes no sense. I know few people who can make a 150 pages elaboration describing the difference between Punk and Punk Rock eventho nobody cares. Oddly enough they are all americans
