Huascar Rojas I’ve seen literally every playthrough he’s done. I think “Rewind” is more entertaining than most others from my perspective as someone who isn’t a drummer. But “The Sky is Red” is objectively good.

Leprous is right up my alley and I still only discovered them 3 or 4 years ago, but their whole catalogue is really great. I got to see them on tour with BTBAM and The Dear Hunter a couple years back (which for me may have been the show of my life if the venue's acoustics hadn't been so awful). Baard is a beast of a drummer and at the same time has shown great subtlety and restraint as the band has inched a bit further away from metal over their last couple albums. You should definitely check out more of their stuff.
Baard is just a GOD drummer. And he's pretty young..slowly becoming one of the best drummers ever born. No doubt about it. You absolutely have to do reactions to his other videos.. "Rewind" or "The Sky is Red" are awesome examples of his skills..
He talked in an interview about changing his grip & NOT placing all his fingers on the stick because he found that he can get a better sound from a slightly different grip technique. He stated that he preferred the sound he could produce with a more open grip & although different grips maybe work for different drummers the important thing is for to be aware of sounds u produce. Leprous are great and hell yeah, that dude sure can play. If you want a style of groove you havent had on the channel, and probably wont be able to explain (or at least id like you to try) then you definitely gotta check out JP Kaukonen play Perceive The Mendacity by his band Circle of Contempt. They write some pretty wild stuff I think you'd appreciate the style.
Corpse paint isn't that far away in Norwegian metal community. The singer Einars brother in law is Ihsahn from Emperor and is featured on the Leprous song Contaminate me. Ihsahns solo stuff is also great prog metal. Barrd Kolstad has played with Borknagar too.
Loved the comment on technique in relation to being or getting good. Always hated people critiqueing technique when someone clearly created something amazing in their own way edit: +- 4:24

What do you mean? You start on the downbeat of the example 12/8 measure with your right hand. If what you're playing are the 8th notes in 12/8 (sound like triplets in 4/4) then your right hand would ALSO have the back beat! 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 Alternating RLRL The fact that you're accenting your left hand either means you're playing a 5 let, or you're playing "triplets" and accenting 1 partial before the backbeat
When you play a shuffle the backbeat comes on the 2 and 4 with both hands playing at the same time. Think of it like. RLRRLRB. B being both. There aren't any 5s in the song

Leprous is a great band. Leprous- Slave live is another good one to check out. They played the states but they’re not that big here. Sadly, most Europeans bands are not big in the states but are incredible. In high school in the mid 90’s 90% of the bands I listened to were from overseas. Imo they just did more creative things musically than in the states.

And actually more blackened bands throw a LOT of prog stuff out there, Einherjar and later Emperor are prime examples. And more modern Enslaved for that matter!
