Well almost, but there are times the pitch is not as close. I've seen them live several times during their career. They are superb live but I prefer the earlier records and live shows.
Leprous’s earlier material contains their heavier material. Their first two albums are very technical and proggy, while everything after that focuses more on atmosphere with vocal-centered compositions. Their two newest albums didn’t have any harsh vocals in them, since they’ve softened up their sound with each album that they make
If you're interested in checking Leprous out again, there is a song on their newest album where Einar basically employs the full extent of his vocal capabilities. The whole song, "Nighttime Disguise," feels like a good representation of Leprous as a whole.
This is what I call "a band's perfect song", which is not the most popular but one that showcases all/most of the band's signatures. Some great examples are Queen's The Show Must Go On, Creedence's Ramble Tamble; Maiden's The Shadows in the Valley (or,something like that).
Alleviate is just pure awesomeness.. so sad that no vocal teacher reacted to it before even that I've suggested it multiple times across all vocal teachers on TH-cam..
His head voice is so connected and his transitions flawless . This is not pure falcetto it definitely have a mix in there. Definitely one of my favorite of the last decade !
Whole Leprous is awesome.. Baard is one of the most talented drummer in music world.. Einar sounds like this on live too, maybe even better.. You should check Leprous - Alleviate and Tesseract - Nocturne
"This is probably the cleanest thing that I have reacted to in a while" Hahah Glad you liked it, since I was one of the people that suggested it. That belting/falsetto switch he does is outstanding. He has done growls in other songs as well, but their later stuff is more mellow. Nice review/commentary as always and I think you have also upped your game in editing!
Worth noting for interest, and forgive me if this gets mentioned(only 1/3 of my way into the video) - the singer/keyboardist is the brother in law of Emperor's Ihsahn, and Leprous itself is also the full time backing band for both Ihsahn live, and Emperor live.
Leprous is amazing! They’ve definitely softened up, but I still freaking love them! I introduce them to people all the time, it’s a shame they’re so unknown!
This is the first time I hear this song too. Interesting to hear him use a more "normal" singing style. Usually he tends to be singing in his higher register. My favorite track being "Rewind". The Rockefeller concert and the album versions are both great!
I'm still catching up on your material, and am SO glad to see a Leprous review. I actually just covered "Stuck" from their prior album, and would love to figure out how Einar does his harsh vocals in their other content. Slowly learning from you and others that singing harsh does NOT mean you'll destroy your voice, and I'm loving exploring that, myself (I come from a classical background). Tl;dr: Thanks for the awesome content!
If you haven't already listened to the song, you should make one of these for their new song called 'Castaway Angels' that just dropped a couple of days ago.
Leprous has been my favorite band since they released their second studio album Bilateral, I love seeing people react to them. I have seen them live 3 times in Los Angeles, and few bands compare to the energy in their live shows.
@@jarnovilen5259 I am well aware of Haken; I also love Haken! My kids sing Haken songs around the house. I have been to multiple shows. Yes, there you go! He really is something isn't he? He's become one of my favourite vocalists, if not THE favourite. But yeah, you should check out some more and "Slave" live at Rockefeller is for sure a good choice to hear his harsh vocals. Also it would be cool if you check out "Contaminate Me" from the same gig (Ihsahn from Emperor is in this one btw, he's actually married to Einar's sister so they've done guest appearances on each other's records from time to time!) and then "Alleviate" from the record this track is on cus that's a..progression. 😅 Both are so so worth your time though, I promise! Also I'm gonna throw a track at you that I haven't seen anyone suggest yet, from their earlier days - "Acquired Taste". No harsh vocals, but his vocal run towards the end is crazy.
Leprous is probably the finest band you ever reacted. And this song doesnt reflect what they are fully capable of. And they are PROG metal band. And loved ur reaction. Keep it up.
Their demos are heavy as hell, but there is one demo, Aeolus Shadow where Einar hit a C6. Einars voice is insane and has been even since he was young. His mother taught him as she was a classical vocalist instructor.
The most impressive in this guy is that he is a metalhead in heart. Keyboards and backing vocals in Emperor for a few times. 2006 Wacken appearance of Emperor (lots of videos in TH-cam) . Thank me later. 😉
I don't think he likes metal music anymore, unfortunately. Seeing Einar talk about older Leprous music is very sad. It's always about how he 'regrets' it, hopes to never play it live & and even that he wishes he had never recorded the heavier stuff.
You must react and analyze to Jim Grey from Caligula's Horse (formerly from Arcane), who has beautiful angelic falcetto too but is much more versatile in middle and lower ranges. Maybe their epic Graves?
