Built this camp kitchen box because I got tired of digging through plastic boxes to find cooking utensils. Turned out nice . The stove is a Camp Chef model with a Stansport 30" flexible hose.
Thanks for the info on the Stansport 30" hose.I have the Camp Chef Denali stove, and I do not like the pipe they supply you with.I ordered one from Amazon a bit ago.
Nice work! I really like the use of the magnets in various places. I wonder how cumbersome it is to attach the hose every time the stove is used. Seems like a minimal amount of clearance in that space. You have given me some good ideas though...
@ Rob Spicuzza....it's not really a problem to attach the hose. The stove is a pretty tight fit but threading it to the stove is quite easy. The threads grab pretty easily with little to no force. You can probably see that I extended the hole to about two inches so that I can slide the stove forwards and backwards a bit. Works great.
Chuckboxes by their nature are heavy there is not much that can be done about it. I am in the process of building one but instead of a gas stove I am going to use my two Trangias and a multifuel stove. This way my chuckbox is storage for my cooking gear at home, can be used when car camping and just the contents can be used when I have to carry something somewhere. I am also going to build a second box for storing my cast iron stuff for trips where this is used.
+Valley Thyroid Institute Purchased off Amazon. Here's the link... www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VYI5LG Seems to work well. I'm still thinking about other modifications for the main compartment. The shelves need to be lightweight so I'm thinking a sliding plexiglass door might be cool. Thanks for the comment!
I don't have a link but for the main top lid it was just a piano box hinge that I cut down to size. All hinges purchased from local hardware store. Easy to find. I have subsequently added beefier hinges for the front cabinet door.
I'm not too strong when it comes to woodworking but I'm going to attempt to build this chuck box anyways. What diameter and length of screw did you use and did you pre-drill the holes or use self-drilling screws?
Thanks for the comment. I checked. These are discontinued but this model, MS2HP, is not on the recall list. www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2021/Camp-Chef-Recalls-Portable-Gas-Stoves-Due-to-Fire-Hazard
Maybe, with some more stout bracing. It would be harder to set the wood screws in though too. Maybe 1/2" for the box and then 1/4" for the shelves and dividers. Perhaps. 1/4" might work for the front lid and front door as well.
Thank you for the idea! Though I prefer a Fisher with a Panahead. I'm also planning on shooting 35mm with a couple of 10K Xenons punching through a 12x if I can get the Geni close enough to the studio.
Type a part number and part list. You should have stocked the unit as others have done. The problem no knives no spices no dishes or safety equipment. Most people make an inventory of tools and supplies. The dark interior requires more light and energy.
There are so many things I should have and could have done better. So much regret here I can barely see through the tears. Where are the spices? Where's the cutlery? Where's light that punishes the darkness? Thou canst not think worse of me than I do of myself. The black looms harsh and cold, teasing warmth, like the end of a long foggy winter's night.
Thou dost punish yourself mightily. On the bright side, you provided REI CHUCK BOX in your title. A Google search provides cut sheets and decent pictures of the build. Amazing how most posts on TH-cam are from professional critics who are totally helpless. I was taught a long time ago, if you can do it better, then do it. Thanks for going to the effort. Enjoyed your build.
That magnet trick is awesome, saving that for my build as well!
Nice job, like how you modified the original plan
Can you please do a video on the Chuck box build? So we can see it. And maybe a little light too

4:36 genius!
Muy bueno !
This is great. Mine's nearly finished but I can't find a locking hinge that works. Do you remember which one you used?
+Clay Carrington This is the pair I ordered. I'm sure there are other options.

Great modifications! Where did you get the LED bar and what model is it?

Do you have a link for the hinges that you used and the latches?

I did pre drill. I think I used a combination of 1" and 3/4" screws. Not sure on the diameter.
kRoy1247 do you have a link to this design?
Are these not available bc of the gas leak recall?
Thanks for the comment. I checked. These are discontinued but this model, MS2HP, is not on the recall list.

@@kRoy1247 Thanks so much 🙂
Do you think you could use 1/4 inch plywood to save weight?

what is the weight of the chuck box ?
+Jorge Sanchez I'm not really sure actually but packed as a full kitchen with some food storage, it'll take two people to move it easily.
Do you have a link to it?

Nice box. Now please buy a tripod for your camera.

dang man, back the camera up some? hard to watch.
little dark
Agreed. Might have been better to paint the interior white.
nice box, cringe on cast iron, needs oil
