Man if these kids keep getting chances, and keep playing the game they love, let them live! You sound like quite the hater seeing these kids get another chance to play ball. No way you’d be saying this if you were in their shoes.
I completely disagree with your opinion. Why shouldn't guys be playing at age 24 or 25? If it was such an advantage, you'd see every Alabama commit taking a year off between HS and college or serving a mormon mission or something like that. There is no reason to have a problem with older guys getting a chance, especially guys who, for whatever reason, couldn't quite make things work at 21 or 22
I agree wholeheartedly with your thoughts on players staying in school well after their best before dates. They clog up the paths for younger players and make it incredibly difficult to recruit. I look at a couple of players who did themselves a disservice by coming back this past season. J. T. Daniels could have been making decent money as a third or second string on an NFL bench but after yet another concussion he's out of football for good and is going the coaching route. And Frank Harris at UTSA, he stretched his college career to 6 years and will most likely never play at the pro level. If I were the NCAA I'd close that loophole immediately. I can't imagine a 23 or 24 year old in high school yet alone a grown man in college. Taking it a step farther, I think the transfer portal and the NIL deals have hurt the sport as well Allow one shot at the transfer portal and that's it. As for those QB's who can't seem to move on to the next level, consider the CFL. Not as much money as the NFL, but there are jobs to be won there (see Chad Kelly).
They seems to be so self-assured going into college, that they have no patience to be backup and learn. Watching starters get NIL money probably feeds the impatience. Their first transfer, when everything doesn't go right for the first time of their lives, is usually the worst decision they make. Like Scott implies, people will figure out how to exploit rules intended for other purposes; but for some reason, the rule makers can't anticipate the negative effects. With NIL healthy mentors are probably ignored for agents looking to exploit.
I've been saying the same thing too. 5th and 6th year seniors in the portal are not the bonus people try to make them out to be. If they were good players, they would be in the NFL. There is a reason they haven't moved on from college.
They are solid college starters or even potential all conference players though. Remember that not having NFL size/athleticism doesn't mean you aren't a valuable college football player.
these overaged college ballers shouldn't be allowed to compete in FBS schools past their age 24. they should hone their skills in FCS schools if they want to keep developing to make it in the NFL, but definitely shouldn't be in the FBS schools denying younger talents opportunities.
My biggest issue is with records. In order to make it a more accurate representation of who the greatest players were, only a player’s best 4 years in college should count towards school records. Up to them to choose which 4. Even I could get a school record or two if you gave me 10 years to do it.
Casey Thompson is a break glass in case of emergency option at Oklahoma. Jackson Arnold is the starter, and Casey is only upperclassmen in that QB room. Also, both his father and brother played for OU and he played HS ball at Southmoore
@@saintdragon the blame is to the rules that cater to these geriatric college players taking spots away from kids that have more upside cause they are actually the age the league was created for.
I mean the big reason Michigan and Washington did so well with very MID recruiting classes is because of covid years and people were aloud to stay sooooo long. So they have very experienced teams not young teams at all I think Michigan has 48 seniors half their roster.
Spencer Petras should be on this list! I remember him putting on the leather Hawkeye helmet his sophomore year and he's still eligible! He's transferring to Utah state apparently for his last year of eligibility at the age of 42.
“It was part of an injury he sustained in 2022” Utah fan here so there will be a bit of bias, but it wasn’t just some injury. Rising apparently tore like 3 different ligaments in his knee during the Rose Bowl. While it was extremely frustrating hearing the “oh he’ll be back next week” narrative for the first six weeks of the season, until he announced that he wasn’t coming back for the season, it makes sense.
Basically journeyman quarterbacks are making a bank by staying in college as opposed to having to go to the NFL and be low around draft picks on undrafted and have to work for a living
I have mixed feelings on this topic. I will say some counterpoints though to things you touched on: 1) smaller school guys that are deserving DO get opportunities. A very quick scroll of 24/7 shows numerous QB’s that had their teams in the FCS playoffs moving up to FBS teams in Power 5 conferences no less. 2) I put a lot of the blame on fans and admin that want instant results and don’t want to “trust the process”. A lot of these coaches are probably more willing to take a flier on a 6th year journeyman because many coaches leashes aren’t all that long. The potential may be lower with the journeyman but the baseline is already pretty well established and that can honestly be the difference in a guy keeping his job another 1-2 years versus rolling out a kid that’s still a work in progress and the wheels completely falling off the season.
While it's true for some players, there are others who really got the short end of the injury stick, like Cam Rising. If I put myself in their shoes and football is my dream, then I'm maximizing every effort I can to keep it alive and make it pro one day. That's how I look at it
Love the honesty etc. But as a former athlete that has kids a family job etc. I'd literally give up my left nut for one more chance to suit up so I don't hold it against these guys but I do hate it for the younger guys and the juco guys but life isn't fair
the ONLY reason I don't have a big problem with it is because there are over 100 schools. If you cant start at any of them, you're developing from the bench anyway, age of the guy in front doesn't matter imo so it isn't really taking away opportunities for younger men. But if it was like Arch Manning behind Stetson Bennett that would be annoying.
What's up with people quitting on the season and jumping in the portal? A WR from Boise st quit in the middle of the season to jump in the portal, Boise st went on to win the conference title. Just finish the year out then transfer
Dudes get 1 or 2 people in their ear (more than likely family who’s never stepped on a college field) that convince them they are HIM when they are far from it. Also money is a factor as well
I know this about QBs but as a fellow Mizzou fan I would love if Schrader had 1 more year left of eligibility bcuz our offense would be unstoppable next year
So before it was complaints about players leaving too early, now its complaints that people are abusing a system we all KNEW they would abuse.. The tears will continue as well as the narrative shift
Taulia doesnt belong in the conversation of absuing the transfer portal.....He spent a year at Bama, then spent 4yrs as the starter at Maryland.....Hes only now using a potential graduate tranfer year....... how is that abusing it....casey Thompson on the other hand.
It’s really not, his reaction isn’t really based in logic. This opinion isn’t a holistic or honest view of the rule and feels like a fan who is disgruntled about a rule that obviously is in effect because of extraordinary circumstances. I enjoy most of the content (ex. Schrader video) but I played college football and don’t have near the same amount of energy for this topic as Scott seems to do. Kinda weird lol
@@Zepi827it’s not the rule itself it’s just the way it’s being used. these guys don’t have much potential to go far in the nfl or even be drafted, so they’re taking starting spots on a team that could be developing future stars. it sucks to see your team start some loser from 2018 over the new 4 or 5 star recruit you just picked up.
@@bluespike1397 Right, so you my friend have a problem with the coaches that are choosing to take "the loser"...the kids are doing nothing wrong but existing and using available eligibility, albeit not what we are used to. Aim the frustration at the right people.
Scott, don't hate the player, hate the game. These kids/men (ha) are just playing within the rules that were set by others. You can't blame them for not giving up.
Let these guys do what they want. The NCAA and schools run it and make money off it like a business so these guys are working. Everyone else involved with college sports get passes but the players gotta always be crapped on. Stick to the other videos because I don't believe you would turn a 6th year and nil deal when you not getting drafted or be in a hiring freeze.
Can’t blame the lesser schools for taking transfers at quarterback. There’s no reward for developing players at every position just for the bigger P5 teams to take them if they blow up. If you can bring in a solid or avg starter instead of going with an 18 year old, it makes sense.

I get 7 years is awhile to play the game you love at the college level. I just don’t understand the Casey Thompson hate. Guy is a winner in every way. Class.
Pretty much. A lot of players are getting an additional 2 or 3 years extra, Redshirt, CoVID, and maybe even injury. Add on top of that a few getting a year or two from graduation. There are a few people that have up to like 9 years. A tight end named Cam Mccormick got granted a 9th year of eligibility for the 2024 season.
So this whole video is about negating the fact that young men have the opportunity to play and do what they love for a long period of time because you don’t agree with it? That’s bs lmao
I don’t seem to understand what the issue is, there’s much worse things In College football that are hurting the sport and this is not one of them, all these player will eventually graduate and every one who has played since 2020 will be out. All the madness with NIL and the transfer portal are the actual current issues.
So because you don't like it or don't agree they should just give up on their dreams? A lot of factors probably play into these decisions and above all do you really think that is what they want? To be the oldest on an NCAA roster? You can't feel worse about than they do. Cool lil video tho.
"Get a real job" is a phrase exclusively used by jealous, indignant people who are frustrated by changing job worlds and markets. Usually, it's fueled by perceptions of unfairness and desire for change to be minimized/nonexistent. In other words, it makes you sound like an angry boomer. Things change. I wont ever knock someone chasing there dreams, this might be there last level there going to play on. If i could make 6 figures playing football over a 9 to 5 thats an easy choice. Let them chase that bag
JOE BURROW got drafted at 23 years old. He's a great qb and it had something to do with extra years learning in college how to be an NFL player.
Yeah burrow was also talented as hell a lot of these guys keep hopping around for easy starting roles
Drafted at 23 isn’t that insane 25 or 26 is where question need to be asked
He only spent 5 seasons at OSU and LSU combined
@@derrick1909why wouldn’t they?
@@donleonard4446why? Weeden got drafted at 28
these overaged college ballers shouldn't be allowed to compete in FBS schools past their age 24. they should hone their skills in FCS schools if they want to keep developing to make it in the NFL, but definitely shouldn't be in the FBS schools denying younger talents opportunities.
Yeah you right they should play in the FCS program or play football in the XFL
My biggest issue is with records. In order to make it a more accurate representation of who the greatest players were, only a player’s best 4 years in college should count towards school records. Up to them to choose which 4. Even I could get a school record or two if you gave me 10 years to do it.
Casey Thompson is a break glass in case of emergency option at Oklahoma. Jackson Arnold is the starter, and Casey is only upperclassmen in that QB room. Also, both his father and brother played for OU and he played HS ball at Southmoore
Who the hell cares if they play another year? They get one chance at this in their lives and it’s hardly affecting the league
It’s affecting the one shot chance the younger guys have cause they don’t move on after being mediocre for 5 to 6 years
@@MaizenBlue81 if younger guys can't beat players who have been mediocre for 5 or 6 players, who's to blame?
@@saintdragon the blame is to the rules that cater to these geriatric college players taking spots away from kids that have more upside cause they are actually the age the league was created for.
I mean the big reason Michigan and Washington did so well with very MID recruiting classes is because of covid years and people were aloud to stay sooooo long. So they have very experienced teams not young teams at all I think Michigan has 48 seniors half their roster.
I stg Michigan qb looked like a coach man's looked like a full adult grown man with kids
Spencer Petras should be on this list! I remember him putting on the leather Hawkeye helmet his sophomore year and he's still eligible! He's transferring to Utah state apparently for his last year of eligibility at the age of 42.
I like the passion !
These dudes are opportunistis 😂
I think it's wild !
I like your disdain the most 😂
“It was part of an injury he sustained in 2022”
Utah fan here so there will be a bit of bias, but it wasn’t just some injury. Rising apparently tore like 3 different ligaments in his knee during the Rose Bowl. While it was extremely frustrating hearing the “oh he’ll be back next week” narrative for the first six weeks of the season, until he announced that he wasn’t coming back for the season, it makes sense.
Couldn’t agree more. Guys have trouble letting go of this phase of their life
I mean if they allow you to keep playing, why not? Make that NIL money playing the sport that you love while continuing your education.
The first half minute or so of this video nailed it out of the park
Also money is a factor as well
College football went from having too many rules to just letting everyone do whatever they want.
I know this about QBs but as a fellow Mizzou fan I would love if Schrader had 1 more year left of eligibility bcuz our offense would be unstoppable next year
Imagine being 25 beating up on 18 year olds thinking you’re him 😭😭
So before it was complaints about players leaving too early, now its complaints that people are abusing a system we all KNEW they would abuse.. The tears will continue as well as the narrative shift
At first i was like this dude joking or a hater. You make good points though. Good video
To be fair cam rising was just injured but I get what you’re saying
it’s impossible to get a 6th year without a medical redshirt
7 years as a college QB basically means you won't be playing in the NFL
Taulia doesnt belong in the conversation of absuing the transfer portal.....He spent a year at Bama, then spent 4yrs as the starter at Maryland.....Hes only now using a potential graduate tranfer year....... how is that abusing it....casey Thompson on the other hand.
He got denied regardless.
If these guys hope to get drafted by hopping from one school to another then they are delusional af
Not really lol bc every year they draft somebody who is good asl that’s been to at least 2-3 schools
@@205BeezyB Transfering once while I am not a fan I can see but I think the point is about the guys like Slovis who have changed schools seemingly like the wind.
@@Denozo88 I’m not a fan of it either but here we are
@205BeezyB though I have seen stats that found that pn average the players who transfered saw 40% less snaps per year. So while they can leave it rarely works out.
Casey won’t play at Ou doing it for more of a mentor role than a payer
you’re mistaken if you don’t think he’s not going to compete his ass off and try to get the start.
And we saw those 4 picks against arizona… I get he’s a freshman but he sat behind Gabriel an entire season and learned. I get everyone has a stinker but we can’t just assume Arnold is a home run hit immediately…
@@Gmonayy189 I don’t look at the bowl game as much. OU comes out first drive and throws the ball 3 times. Like Arnold’s nuts have been proven. He’s young he will learn from Casey regardless of whom gets the start and who the backup is. This day and age coaches are wanting to play the 7th year QB. I get 7 years is awhile to play the game you love at the college level. I just don’t understand the Casey Thompson hate. Guy is a winner in every way. Class.
@wyatt2868 now that I look at your profile pic I see why you have such a bold take. 😂 Nebraska fan.
@@Gmonayy189 I do agree though man. Sometimes I wonder if some OU fans even really know what they watching
Casual college football fan here - Are players at other positions doing this? Or do QBs doing this the most and/or get the most attention?
Pretty much. A lot of players are getting an additional 2 or 3 years extra, Redshirt, CoVID, and maybe even injury. Add on top of that a few getting a year or two from graduation. There are a few people that have up to like 9 years. A tight end named Cam Mccormick got granted a 9th year of eligibility for the 2024 season.
I don’t see the problem…put yourself in their shoes why wouldn’t you come back and keep playing if you can 🤷🏿♂️
So this whole video is about negating the fact that young men have the opportunity to play and do what they love for a long period of time because you don’t agree with it? That’s bs lmao
Tagoviola (sp?) was denied an extra year of eligibility
Taulia got denied by the NCAA to get another year of eligibility. He is currently preparing for the NFL Draft
Don't forget Jordon McLoud who just committed to Texas State
Hell I was a College Freshman in 2018 too
Stetson Bennet: *vibin
Scott Fischer: “and I took that personally”
Between the nil deals and the transfer portal what we are seeing now is the equivalent of the ncaa's version of
A starting qb for a major university will get more thru nil than he will ever make at a regular job
LMAO bohannon is still playing ? insanity
A TH-camr telling someone to get a real job ???😂😂
Scott, tell us what you think of BYU their way of doing things.
Dillon Gabriel has been in college for like 10 years
I mean a Tight end at Miami(FL) just got a 9th year of eligibility...
Thank you for this video. It annoys the heck out of me.
Honestly, we’ve gotten excellent a play from these super seniors. Plus, they are going to make more money in one year than they will for the next 5.
What about bo? Penix? These guys are 24yrs old. Played with 3 yr NFL players…
It's ridiculous.
4-5 years is all it should be
"Get a real job" is a phrase exclusively used by jealous, indignant people who are frustrated by changing job worlds and markets. Usually, it's fueled by perceptions of unfairness and desire for change to be minimized/nonexistent.
In other words, it makes you sound like an angry boomer. Things change. I don't care how old the college players are.
You think he's jealous?? What a braindead take. Get the fuck out of here you retard.
I think the issue is instant eligibility. You want to change schools sit out a year.
All these guys would be solid candidates ( well, minus a couple of them) for the CFL and UFL
What happened to the original rule of your eligibility starts the moment your first day of college is and ends 5 years later these guys are trying to be like the Brett Favre of college football.
You should talk about the hire of Fran brown at Syracuse he has brought some juice to their recruiting.
I went to college for 5 years in 2016 and graduated in 2021 and I was 21 Y/O! These dudes can’t be 27 playing college ball!
I like the extra year and it's helped guys get to the NFL and increase there net worth. Chris Weinke was about 26ish when he won the Heisman. But truly I don't like this video based on you bashing guys for using the opportunities given to them. But I respect your opinion. It does seem like you're upset that you're not playing or still in college perhaps.
Why do u care so much cause u can't play
Miami tight end might be 30 before he stops playing college ball
one of the most out of pocket thumbnails ive ever seen
So you’re saying if they have bad season they should not get another chance to be better so they get drafted I like the idea of kids getting another chance
College football is fun to play why leave when you can play for as long as you want and make money doing so
Exactly
@@BigBroKuma Watching pro is boring playing pro games are boring we got college football coming back but what about college basketball college women’s basketball college baseball college softball. I say give the ladies a college video game they want to be in a video game to
"Time to get a real job": The guy who makes money for commenting on people who actually work. LMFAO 😂
I wonder if NFL scouts will start to question guys who milk the college years and go for someone who’s a normal NFL rookie age? Like recruiting a 25 year old who hasn’t played an NFL snap would be risky but idk
Most careers last 3 years or less anyways. NFL- Not For Long
Cam Rising would be in the NFL rn if he didn’t completely blow out his knee against Penn State in the rose bowl
Wow this video is filled with so much negative hater energy. Most people dream of playing college football especially at a high level and this will be a very small part of their life regardless. You make a whole video hating on dudes trying to make money while also living the dream. They have the rest of their life to work a normal job, obviously you didn’t like those normal jobs either hence you have a TH-cam channel…This ain’t a good look for you at all.. kicking people while they are down. Also most normal college players are 20-24 playing.. only the special talents are playing at 18-19
Who are you to say what they should be doing? Get a life
Yea who cares about the younger guys (actually college aged) who can’t get off the bench bc some 25 year old is still playing college football lmao gtfo what a selfish and stupid take you have
I mean if they not really good and don’t get paid a lot of money then they should find a real job
What year is TJ Finley? He just entered the portal my guy is gonna be on his 4th school
Idk what bugs me more. Dillon Gabriel setting career records with 2 extra years or guys like JT Daniels playing for 4 schools in 4 years. On should be trying to play pro and the other should have been coaching pop Warner
If they not really good they should play FCS football or play football in the XFL
