Jake Browning was also part of the 2019 NFL rookie QB class. He was an undrafted free agent. He spent several seasons on the practice squads of the Vikings and the Bengals before winning a job as a backup for the Bengals in 2023. He actually started seven games this past season for the Bengals after Joe Burrow was injured.

Drew Lock could’ve been a decent plugin starter like Minshew if the Broncos weren’t an absolute dumpster fire that didn’t have a coaching staff run by clowns that also didn’t know or care to develop him. His rookie year was promising but we fired Rich Scangarello so we could use him as a scapegoat to blame for the season’s failure, and the Broncos decided to hire Pat Shurmur to replace him despite Shurmur being one of the worst coaches in the league, which ruined Lock’s development. It also didn’t help that Lock was benched for Teddy Bridgewater which hurt his confidence and development even more. I know I sound like a Drew Lock apologist but it can’t be understated just how much Denver sucks at developing QBs and how much of a circus the organization is

2018 Eli Manning: 4299 yards, 21 TDs, 11 INTs, 92.4 passer rating. Daniel Jones matched this only in 2022 and had the Giants not drafted him, they could and probably would have drafted a QB in the 2020 draft with a far better QB class.

As a Broncos fan, I would argue that Drew Lock wasn't really given a chance. He had a head coach, Vic Fangio, who didn't care about the offensive side of the ball. Fangio wasn't interested in developing a QB, he wanted an old veteran. During the one season where Lock was the starter, Fangio admitted that they only used about half of the playbook, because he and the OC didn't have confidence in Lock, nor did they want to work with him. That said, part of the problem with incoming QB classes is due to QBs like Mahomes. Now if a rookie QB isn't immediately an all star, they are deem worthless.

I watched him throw a pick in a preseason game fighting for the Giants backup job the other day though, so idk if he’s gonna make his way back lol. He was definitely one of those guys who was failed by coaching, rather than just never being able to live up to his potential at the pro level.

When you reach for ANY player INCLUDING QBs you’re going to see some spectacular disasters. It’s not just that teams reach for QBs, but those teams often don’t know how to develop QBs. Whether you become a Hall of Famer or a bust often times depends on who drafts you. Has anyone wondered why QBs drafted #1 overall don’t generally have overly successful careers, especially with the team that drafted them? Former #1 overall picks, Plunkett and Stafford, won Super Bowls but not with the team that drafted them. Reaching and inability to develop players is a chronic problem for bad franchises.

I met a guy who played against Kyler in high school dude was a linebacker and said that the first time Kyler took off he knew that Kyler would play in the NFL and that he would not. He said he heard the snap blinked and when he opened his eyes Kyler was already passing him.

I know he got his money from the Cards, and he’s still considered their starter, but I still think he should’ve stayed with the A’s and played short stop. He’d probably be nasty in the MLB by now making way more money.

Given the longevity of the modern QB- thanks to medical advances and rule changes - 2 or 3 QBs sticking per year is about par

I don't think how much lifting kyler had to do. Awful o-line, gimmicky play calling that was eventually figured out, below average defense. What he did with just a monthly crew of receivers last year showed he's in the convo of borderline elite QBs.

I find it funny as a giants fan how fans of other teams think of Jones as a reach and an overall disappointment. But many giants fans hate his guts and you’d think he was the biggest bust of all time.

I don't think any QB drafted after round 2 that only turns into a backup level qb is a disappointment, QBs drafted later than the 2nd are seen as backup level QBs and anything more than that is a plus, it's only a disappointment if they do absolutely nothing

With Haskins, i hate to say it but I did not think he would succeed. As an OSU fan, i wanted him to, but to me he just felt sluggish while playing. I thought that maybe he would have benefited seasoning a little, but you cannot fault a guy for declaring when they are projected 1st rounders.
In NFL what he needed was someone like Bellichick to forcefully mature him. Dan Snyder was the worst person that could have drafted him, especially since Snyeder is know to baby his high draft pick qbs (he had a limo drop off RG3 at practices, and even coached RG3 on what to say to Shannahan about what kind of game plan "RG3 wants", Shannahan even said in an interview that RG3 used Snyders exact wording when talking to him). It also did not help that the coaches did not want him, and I dont blame them. Why would you want a qb that you know needs to be developed while you have Dan Snyder breathing down your neck, Coaches knew that if they try to develop him, it will be for the benefit of the new coaching stuff that weill replace them before they can do that. Personally I think if you have an offensive minded head coach and you draft a qb, you should give that coach time to develop him, or fire the coach before drafting the qb,.
