love this tree. A friend had it then had to replant as it was lost. Interesting tree with really pretty white flowers.

When ripe, they make for a great alternative to apricot or peaches.

Just to let you know for what its worth I see you wrote many years ago. Lol My tree produced many seedlings.
      They are coming up everywhere.
So it's must be effortless to grow them and they grow very fast.
      I'm hoping to sell them.
I never thought they would be edible to humans. My squirrels just love them and the birds too.

What kind of a variety is it?

Can you please show a place where you can buy these trees?

Why does everything I see online say dogwood berries are toxic?

I squeeze the insides out of the skin. Then I stick the whole inside in my mouth and just spit out the seeds. You can eat them quickly that way.
They taste like a cross between a mango and a cantaloup.

We have this tree in our yard and I had no idea the fruit was edible. Just had one. It's delicious and I would say it tastes similar to a custard apple.

To eat them... Pull them off stem and from where the berry was attached to stem suck out the middle. (The other flesh isn't good.)
Then spot it seeds. It's a fun sweet treat.

If one has lots of time, they are rather labor-intensive as to getting such little flesh amidst the seeds. It's more of a hiking fruit to bring along. Eat the skin if you want, otherwise spit it and the seeds out as you go along the trail. ;-)

Thanks for this. Saw some at our local (UK) zoo near the rhino house and just had an inkling it might be edible. Put a fruit in my pocket and took it home to see what I could find out and delighted to know it could be eaten. Texture was custardy, taste was like a bland mango. I wonder if the zoo knows it could feed them to some of the animals maybe??

I have that tree. No animals ever seemed to touch the fruit. I was afraid to try it.

I thought mine were safe from animals too, until last year, when squirrels at the whole crop in about 2 days. The little monsters! I might net it this year to get a huge harvest. I bet they're delicious frozen.

They are alright. We have a nice Kousa in our yard which overflows with fruit. The squirrels and birds love them.
I've tried the fruit and it's okay. I couldn't eat many of them. The skin is hard and nasty, but the flesh is sweet enough.
