When you here the riff of this masterpiece you just stop and say where does this come from? who the heck put this together? where does it lead me? will it end or continue forever? Luckily not only was I born in the part of the world where Mark comes from but was able to listen to it when it was launched. An incredible artist and person.
how can one dislike this, i can see seven dislikes it shows they don't have any idea about music .. it's an amazing song fantastic..sir knopfler is legend lucky to have him.! .. ! it's
Last year I went to a Clapton Concert. It was amazing! But I still think how it would be to see Mark Knopfler playing this song right there, in front of me. People of the 70s are so damn lucky.
This song came out the year after my own Telegraph Rd. Got laid off from the best job I ever had. This song quickly became my anthem. Thanks Mark Knopfler for telling our story. Thanks romeolo for posting it. btw this version is amazing.
esta gente no deberia morir nunca, por lo bien que nos hace sentir en momentos bajos. Lo vi en Vigo 2002 ni la lluvia ni los relampagos pudieron con este moustruo de la guitarra
Man I hate it with music like this put me in ultra relax mode Can't get nothing done. End up falling a sleep. Don't Ya hate that. Mark Knopfler does it me every time.
wow, what a brilliant recording Quality! Thanks for adding another (various) Version of the best Song mankind has ever heard. As a Guitarist.... somehow never reachable! And always a Inspiring Spring of creativity. Thanks Mr. Knopfler!
..agree man, totally..., even the God himself wouldn't be able to reach Mark's performing.. his playing stands beyond any possible human imagination...
@theSicilianToe If you are referring to the KTGC Tour show at the Landmark in 2008..I was there too..along with my then 17-year-old son. I turned to him when Mark opened "Telegraph Road"..and told him he was in for a real treat..he wasn't disappointed! Very few musicians can evoke such emotion from their instrument..and even fewer can write as well as Mark does..no wonder that he still sells out venues around the globe.
hey, sicilian toe. really enjoyed your share. its fukin wonderful when somthing stirs your .emotions.kinda makes you feel alive. good luck and never stop rokin.
Good shout on the 'Springsteen' thing. Saw Knopfler tonight in Liverpool. Saw Clapton in same venue about 3 years ago. Knopfler wins hands down - no debate.
Mark c un géni tu joueras toute ta vie et tu seras jamais capable de légalé ce gars là joue et regarde le il na même plus la tête à la place où il joue il est sur une autre planète tu me crois pas achète toi une guitare et essai ...ARTHUR
@theSicilianToe Didn't need to convince him...by the end of the show..he knew! Mark also played killer covers of "Hillfarmer's Blues", "Marbletown" and of course..."Speedway at Nazareth" that night (like I need to tell you that!)...and that was more than enough! MK is by far the most underated musician ever
Bruce wrote this song many years ago its called Thunder Road. With no disrespect towards Mark Knopfler luv his music too! Interesting Post by the way got me thinking about how closely knit musicians are. Nice one
yes I agree, In Christchurch NZ I could not go to the concert, flaming music moves me too much This is a composer more prolific and talented than Mr Mozart, Mr Beethoven and God dammit the Beatles sound like kids in a playpen by comparison Over the years I have noticed huge changes to MK, we all grow, his voice now, is a lot more refined:)) His music plays a huge part in my life, has enriched it in fact
@theSicilianToe I've always wondered, what is it in people's minds when they created their works ?.... How is it that so fingers next thought? What is the richness of colors, smells, sounds, thoughts, flashes of the soul .... surreal images in my head, crying out for someone, a man closer and better world ...? How is it basically the same and timeless, best illustrated by the fact that the same questions I asked myself listening to Liszt, Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky ....
I don't know if you ever listened to Dylan's Christian-phase album, "Long Train Running". I'm a Jesus guy myself although I can't stand the man-made religion that calls itself Christianity, but I know many shunned this album just because of the message. But Mark Knopfler was the studio guitarist on it & IMO he killed every tune and made the album a joy whatever you believe. Tremendous guitar work, as always from one of my fave musicians.
Have you checked out the new live album from Dire Straits bassist John Illsley? Featuring Private Investigations, Money for Nothing and Romeo and Juliet...
Hi man, cold you explain me te meaning of what you said " my own Telegraph Rd" : does telegraph road has a precise meaning? Thanx in advance for your explaination, L.
@behavis people don't believe me when I say he is the best live artist. I have seen him several times and everytime the peformance blows me away. Groningen 1996 was for me personally the best one though. Btw check out on youtube Mark Knopfler-Hill Farmer's Blues-2010 Special Edition!
i agree this new music is rubbish its the purists up until the eighties thats when good music stopped its sad to say but the influence of music these days is bad the old dtuff is better
I could listen to Mark Knopfler all day and all night....

I am 43 and a half years old as of this October 2012... Only now am I fully appreciating what I found 30 years ago...
I never tire listening to this beautiful hymn of life..❤
His sound makes me crying every time.... Huge fan!
The beauty of this is it does not stop. The person has not been born that can top this, yet. I hope I live to see it.

A long time ago, I heard this "symphony" . I appreciated it so much. I still do
I recently turned my brother on to this song such that he immediately went to Amazon and ordered Love Over Gold.
only now i realize how lucky i am to have lived in this era
Pure class
Man I hate it with music like this put me in ultra relax mode Can't get nothing done. End up falling a sleep. Don't Ya hate that. Mark Knopfler does it me every time.

Have listened to several "live" versions. None compare to the 1982 studio version. Simply awesome!
He's just telling the story like a godfather. Great version!

INCREDIBLE MAN HE IS !
this is the track happy to admit I couldn't come close on my best day.

Brathtaking!
Good
Is this the concerts he did at the Royal Albert Hall? If so, I was there! (well on the 2nd June)
A Pensa Suhr Mk1
what's he's guitar?
That is very possible, dude. ;)
But instead of being jealous,
he has written lots of other very good songs...
in my opinion every live version is better than the studio one......
This is the song Springsteen wish he'd written.
Eternel !!!
@trvish truth be told Dire Straits did most of their works in the 1980's, they broke up in the early 90's
my god, .....is that really mark people ?? i guess we all just got old when we werent looking, dam ......
Do i sense a little more blues touch in marks fingers?
A song Spingsteen could never have written!
To fast to notice
He's not moving...
i agree this new music is rubbish its the purists up until the eighties thats when good music stopped its sad to say but the influence of music these days is bad the old dtuff is better
9 disgraces
'man made religion that calls itself Christianity' ? All religions are man-made and this fact takes away all the credibility that a religion can have.
