    There are massive discounts on these in the UK, a new Elegance can be picked up for around £32K (list £44K), at that price it doesn't look so bad

      Not even that, over 90% of buyers get some sort of finance, so the monthly payments on leases or PCP’s should be the focus. Honda are knocking these out for £200-£250 a month on PCP with nothing down right now, they are very affordable.

      34k Euro in Denmark now. Suddenly very interesting car. Not many can beat this for the low price now, even if the car itself is mediocre. There isn't many EVs for 34k euro at all. Only really BYD Dolphin or MG4, id rather have this.

    One of the most anonymous and instantly forgettable cars on the road - EV or not. I doubt Honda will sell many at all - they can do a LOT better. I'd normally expect something like this from VW, who are the masters of bland.

    Great review, honest and informative. This is why so many people have an issue with electric cars, the manufacturer says 500km range, honest, real world review gives the reality and it's far worse. 60k for a car that can't get you to Kerry without stopping, how is this anything other than a vastly overpriced, massive retrograde step.

    Thanks for the informative video :) I currently have a Hyundai i20n on PCP that I'll probably buy at the end in a couple years - but likely to move to electric in 2-3 years. The market will probably change by then but if I was to change now I'd still probably go for a Tesla Model 3, especially if the price keeps decreasing!

Our HRV is so slow that it needs to leave the party well before midnight, but it'll outlast most Prince Charmings. I'm sure the pricing will change and the range will prove to be OK on a longer test. These are on sale now in many countries in Europe, 299 000 Kr in Norway for advance, from 420 000 kr, for 299 000 it competes with the Nissan leaf, and this has much more equipment on board than leaf and better range. Saw one of these on the road today in the North East, England. It is quite distinctive on the road and the appeal- if not brand loyalty might lay in the Lease deals people have been mentioning - though my quick search of lease deals didn’t show anything particularly attractive; £2,967 deposit, £329 per month, term 24 months, 5000 miles per annum!

    I've had three Hondas and have recently replaced my previous one, but with a Hyundai. Hondas have just become too expensive. You're dead right about the alloys. My Honda's alloys used to take ages to clean - my Hyundai has aero covers that take seconds. To my eye this e:NY1 looks like a H-RV, which is a quirky looking thing to begin with. As usual with EVs, the stated range tends to be fiction. I do like the interior design though. Honda have really upped their game in that regard.

    Love the ‘reality’ of the review… sadly, this Honda is likely to be mostly bought by Honda fans - and even some of those will question their sanity!
    If you’re paying €55k+ here, you’ve got Tesla Ys, PS2s, Enyaqs/ID4s etc, which’ll all go 100-200km further. It’s just too average and not competitive in any one area, and - as the review suggests - way overpriced for what range it gives (which, for most EV buyers, will define a car’s use ability and value for money).

  • @davidmehlhorn726
    @davidmehlhorn726 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Well seeing as how the EV market has stalled in Ireland….just a 1% increase in sales in the last 12 months…….trying to sell yet another stupid SUV for an extortionate price is not going to reverse this trend. Smaller, compact cars with much lower prices is the way to go, think Renault 5, Citroen EC3. However until solid state batteries with REALISTIC ranges and short charge times come on stream, the current crop of EVs are just not long term options unless you like to pay way over the odds, and are happy with massive depreciation.

    • @mamba101
      @mamba101 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Over the odds? Most EVs are priced very well compared to ICE equivalents, when you then factor in running costs it becomes much more attractive.

    • @davidmehlhorn726
      @davidmehlhorn726 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mamba101I don’t know where you live but that is not the case in Ireland. Despite recent price cuts, EVs are still far higher in price than ICE cars. The running costs you mention don’t factor in higher wear and tear on tyres and brakes due to EV weight, both wearing out far quicker than on ICE cars. Plus electricity prices are only going to increase in the long term. Oh and the Government will have to find the list revenue from motor tax on ICE cars from somewhere. Taxing EVs by weight perhaps?

    • @mamba101
      @mamba101 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@davidmehlhorn726Your facts are outdated, take a Tesla Model 3 standard, it’s €41K - very competitive pricing. Plenty of other examples.
      Wear and tear costs are LESS on an EV despite the weight. Brakes typically last way longer too due to regen.
      Well you can only speculate when it comes to tax, who knows. All I know is I pay €120 a year now.

    • @davidmehlhorn726
      @davidmehlhorn726 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mamba101 I’m judging my comments from two people I know (1 colleague and 1 neighbour) who got rid of their EVs after a year or so and back into ICE cars. They both stated that they had to replace tyres far quicker than their previous ICE cars and the front brakes in particular wore out incredibly quickly. This was on brand new EV6 and ID4 cars. As they both travelled for work, they stated that the “cheap home charge” didn’t last more than 250kms and they had to recharge at very expensive fast chargers that cost them more than a fossil fuel fill up. Yes tax is low now but the Government is looking at a loss of €4.5 billion in lost revenue “if” the switch to EVs takes off again and they’ll have to recoup this somehow. Enjoy low tax rate at the moment as this will change to a pay per weight in time due to the additional wear and tear on roads from obese EVs.
