Agree totally good reviews from Doug all the time says what he thinks and usually thinks outside of the box for the car purchaser to make things easier to choose
Mostly agree but wouldn't want to play poker with him, have no idea what he actually likes (while voldy saying yey buy any car from my employer please)
Not for me! They're are too many negatives. In fact (as a Honda advocate) I can't find ANY good reason for buying one. If I were 'going all electric', in the SUV class, I'd definitely be looking elsewhere. All-in-all, looks like a bit of a missed opportunity by Honda. 🤷🏻♂️
I don't think that's what the name stands for... I think ENY1 is a abbreviation for "Anyone" as in its so smooth that Anyone can just get in and Drive.
What is the software/app that runs on this model? Did you manage to install/login by yourself or it has been setup initially for the user and you only logged in to be able to use the screen. Thanks
That horse has long bolted and it is too late to catch it and put it back in the stables. Especially if you mean a total ban on touchscreen controls as we have a 2008 Mercedes with touchscreen for some info and entertainment controls. Even for a ban on certain functionalities it is too late seeing the biggest selling car model in the world is nearly 100% touchscreen.
I doubt if they can squeeze in another kWh of battery capacity into that car. Anyway, would you buy it if they charge another £10,000 extra? It is already more expensive than EVs in the class above it.
I've got a E and love it. Most comutes in the UK are an average of 20 - 30 miles a day. But when I can get an aftermarket Solid state upgrade il look into it
I have the e:np1 It's certainly one of the best cars I have driven, it has the same (or better) specs as the e:ny1, range goes 280 miles (actual drive) and more
Thanks for the very informative review. Nice car but I don't think they would sell many at £45K especially when rivals offer more car for less cash. If that's the best Honda can do on price then I fear for their future.
The projected prices their new HONDA cars are slated for will push many buyers to the competitors unless the new honda cars offer better specs, but as mentioned the rivals offer more for less, so its a obvious where the majority will go, only Honda loyal owners will stick to honda, to be honest, Honda new prices seem a bit aloof and a big hike for the new range of cars.
A note on the battery… if the reviewer here is correct in saying that you can charge it from 10-80% in X minutes, does that mean this car does not have an LFP battery? That would make it even less interesting, aside from the price, charging speed, smaller space and lack of buttons for the AC. The BYD Atto 3 has a lot of similarities, but is quite a bit cheaper and offers much more.
EV’s tend to be £10k more than ICE so I’m guessing this will start at £42k. The new Jazz hybrid is just shy of £30k so they are no longer a reasonable priced car.
It is now clear why Honda closed the Swindon plant. They have clearly decided to move much higher up the price and premium car market space to maximise profits at the expense of volume. Toyota is doing exactly the same as the Japanese car manufacturers have all decided that they will not fight in the volume and value end against the Chinese manufacturers.
Again the range. Millions of drivers simply do not do 200 mile, heck even 100 mile trips regularly enough to need a car to do that. It’s same as saying everyone only buy a Van as you will sometimes need the space. Saying that it’s too expensive for what it is especially if it’s underpinnings are a HRV as little R&D cost to recover in that case.
If only model E had 300miles range from the start, tremendous opportunity lost there. Still amazing compact design and futuristic interior. What a car, perhaps could be reimagined as a PHEV.
Its a Honda so it'll be way too expensive compared to the likes of MG. I expect most sales will be lease or PCP where people can lose the high price tag across monthly payments. MG have proved that you can make good, usable sized EVs for less than £30k.
@@richardsmith579 Must only be in the US because all the reviews I’m seeing is saying the Magic Seats are gone. It’s just a regular seat that folds down now.
@@jsonlee01 . The uk (and world) HRV is based on the Jazz (Fit) chassis, and so has the magic seats. The US HRV is built on a civic chassis and therefore has a bigger two litre engine but not the magic seats. It’s confusing because Honda uses similar nomenclature for different cars in different markets and manages to leave us a little lost. There’s a new model coming to Europe using the American HRV platform and body and that has some new letters to name it. Very annoying.
MG has a significant advantage in these cash strapped times. Having lived with the ZS first gen for three years, as an experiment in economy EVs, I can tell you the second gen is still massively appealing to families on a budget.
Stop groaning about the name… especially the brits, what with your Jaguar XJR’s and Rover SD1 etc. I bought one of these despite all the groaning, because once you actually drive it, you realise it’s a good car. I’ve been getting 240-45 miles range in the dreary UK weather. The price has dropped by £8k and it’s a Honda… so it’ll probably last forever if you’re willing to change the battery at some point.
You don't really pay full price for the car, honda had a deal in the UK for a bit where it was essentially 16k off, which meant it was £195 a month on PCP finance, it's currently 8k off which isn't quite a good but still takes the price down quite a bit. And yeah, you'll probably give the car back at the end of the PCP, but I wouldn't want an EV for more than a few years anyway.
In Sweden it starts at 530 tSek which is the same level as Kia Niro EV here. But for a two child family it is not roomy enough. Perhaps for a one child family and you want Honda for the quality and driving dynamics.
We have an HRV ehev, and an Enyaq iv60. This car falls below them. More expensive to buy than either, less versatile than the HRV, no magic seats for example, longer charge time than the Enyaq, although similar range by the sound of it ( which is not good for the price). Less room in the boot than the Enyaq. In summary, not a car for me to consider, but great review, thanks
As a repeat Honda customer I'm a fan of the brand, but if I was buying an EV right now, I would probably be looking elsewhere as the e:Ny1 doesn't tick enough boxes for me, which Honda's rival do.
Q: How can EVERY owner and EVERY reviewer point out climate controls etc implemented on a touch screen is awful, yet each manufacturer keeps including this anti-feature specially for their electric models? A: Tesla - they only allowed internet tech influencers to review their cars and these idiots hyped up everything Tesla did as if it was all self-evidently awesome.
Shame, because Honda generally offer very solid reliable cars with good quality and very reasonable maintenance costs. But at this price point, and the lack of storage, poor range for the size, and battery charging speeds. It drops right down the list for electric Suvs. Hopefully Honda improve on this going forward, or at least have something that others don't offer.
Couldn't they suggest a nice name instead of that marketing nonsense? Well, I do know that a nice name in one language can mean something less nice in another language but ... why give up?
What is wrong with the Honda designer? Their design looks boring, no character. These are the reasons why they are losing to the Korean manufacturers when it comes to design. The only good looking model now is the CR-V.
You would have hoped Honda would have continued with the innovations they launched in the Honda e No proper Regen is a big omission No physical buttons for climate control A big Tesla style display - no widescreen dash that sets the “e” apart No door cameras, just me too chunky mirrors The Honda e may be expensive for its size, but this eNY1 is a boring as its name and very expensive for what it offers
Late to the (EV) Party, but not offering any USPs or much of anything over it’s competitors. Nice enough, but probably one for Honda fans… most seeing this against, say, the Niro will imo choose the Kia!
I am a huge Honda fan, (8 so far ) currently 22reg CR-V hybrid. Have Honda finally lost the plot? FROM £45k and it's built in CHINA! So why can't they build it for slightly more than all the Chinese 'invaders' ? It also has a teeny-weeny boot. If I do ever go EV it won't be with Honda. (Brand new Kia SOUL. Bigger boot £10k LESS and nearly 300 mile range and faster charging. and a SEVEN year warranty) Come on Honda extract you finger!
If it starts at mid 40's, with a 256 mile range, then it's 175 GBP per mile of range .......... a top spec MG4 is 120 GBP per mile of range, BYD Atto 3 is 150GBP - Honda has missed the mark again. It's not even built on a full EV platform ........years behind the competition!

Governments will need to legislate to ban touchscreen controls, they are dangerous and similar to using a mobile phone while driving.
