  • Star Wars fans are freaking out over the newest show, The Acolyte. Naturally, I have felt called to rise to the occasion.
I realized too late I talk like 95 mph in this but I've got a lot to say (unfortunately). What do you think of The Acolyte so far?
P.S., Please no one try to pester the people I sourced for tweets. We're all Star Wars fans here!

The acolyte is so poorly written

I think it’s on par with arguably the worst written Star Wars, Attack of the Clones, but I find the Acolyte story a little more engaging so far.

At the end of the day, this is bad, mediocre (add whatever adjective) Star Wars and not what’s needed. It is so poorly written, shot, edited, and displayed and I hate that the discourse cover of DEI is what’s getting the time. The most positive thing about a show should never be “the potential”.

Im amazed how star wars fans swallow anything.
They really don't need to do any effort.

Great video. I personally stopped caring about Star Wars around the time Episode 9 came out. But i do enjoy watching youtube videos about the current state of whatever Disney is doing with it now.
Doesn't sound like i've missed much at all.

      Thank you for watching!
Episode 9 broke something inside me, I won't lie haha. I think I've accepted it and moved on, but in terms of live action, you honestly haven't missed that much.
Ahsoka was interesting, but could have been better. Andor, on the other hand, is a must watch. Genuinely some of the best Star Wars out there.
I also recommend checking out something like the Bad Batch or Clone Wars if you like animation. Hopefully Disney will get its act together for live action... eventually, lol.

Its refreshing to see someone with this take. So many people just mindlessly hate it for its creators political leanings or its inclusiveness, or mindlessly defend it like its a masterpiece. My opinion is that disney gave us one of their worst written and directed shows yet, and the fans are arguing about lesbians and lore implications. Like, its still bad, lol

Thank you for watching!! Like I say in the video I think it’s okay to like something despite its flaws (Lord knows I do for a lot of Star Wars projects) but the bickering back and forth just felt like it was distracting from so much that needs to improve in Star Wars currently. Here’s hoping they address these issues eventually!

Is it bigotry and/or sexism to point out that strong male characters in Star Wars get killed off or emasculated, while female characters are able to float in space and survive being stabbed in the heart with a lightsaber?

I think it I make it very clear with very specific examples what I have seen in reaction to very specific moments from the specific Star Wars show that I talk about in this specific video that you are currently commenting on. Beyond that you’re preaching to the wrong choir dude I have qualms with writing in Star Wars sometimes too but like it’s Star Wars dude we’ll live to see another day

Most of the time these complaints come from very insecure men whose insecurities fuel their every motive behind their complaints so most of the time yes I’d say these complaints are usually expressed in sexist ways. You could have worded that in such a way to criticize the writing of Star Wars without mentioning women and getting defensive about being a man but you just couldn’t help yourself it seems. I also seem to remember a man getting cut in half and surviving in Star Wars so I think we’re pulling a double standard pretty hard here.

I am not a reader of the books, nor have I watched any of the Disney shows before The Acolyte. If you can provide details about that event, I will certainly update my opinion.

@@johnmiwa6256Darth Maul.. his reappearance was in the clone wars series and then again later in the solo movie at the end

@@johnmiwa6256 my apologies man, I appreciate you being mature about it. I’m just reflexively scared whenever someone starts arguing about sexism/ bigotry in comments.
As for Star Wars, I was talking about Darth Maul! George himself had the idea to revive Maul in the Clone Wars despite being cut in half (and frankly Anakin and Grievous are other examples of men who should not have been able to survive) but who did because it’s a fictional story with plot devices and thematic metaphors.
I do think they’re leaning too heavily into letting people survive nearly impossible injuries, and it’s starting to feel like a crutch for worse writing. That doesn’t intrinsically make these criticisms sexist or racist at all, (and frankly I’d love for people to point these out in a kind and measured way) but so often people do so and resort to very toxic measures when speaking about them. Hope this helps and Id be happy to answer any other questions you have!

You lost me at "there has always been fire in SW". The fire we see in trilogies is combustion of depressurizing hulls of the ships. This makes sense. The fireplace in Acolyte doesn't. I wouldn't forgive such a mistake in a fan film, and I won't in a multibillion-dollar company's production.

That’s a great point! Especially if this were science fiction. Too bad it’s not and has space wizards! Imagine I criticized Harry Potter because magic isn’t real. It doesn’t matter dude there’s a talking frog

The writers laughing about their goal being to piss of fans as a good thing, tells me a lot about the show.
