I love PTX! I just saw them live last week and I have to say Kevin and Avi do better without the orchestra. The orchestra took away from their performance and just didn't allow that magic to come through from just their voices alone. You could tell it threw them off. Either way it's always incredible from them. None of their performances are awful. They are the most talented musicians in a group that I have ever seen
Completely! Drowns out Kevin and Avi, and reduces PTX to just the trio. Sure they still harmonize like nobody else, but they're just "plain" without the bassline. Just like any other singer with a backing band. :( I think what makes PTX special is their extreme acousticness, their acappella magic. They're not some One Direction or Take That or things like that.
BUT they had the microphones amped enough so that all the vocals were still very prominent. So I didn't find the orchestra that obtrusive (especially since the orchestra wasn't trying to take some of the melodic parts, just harmonizing). AND compared to a PTX concert where the audience is all screaming??? This a remarkably clean performance both from an audio and video point of view... Thanks to whoever posted.
Thank you so much !!! When you live outside USA, it's so frustrating to hear about TV shows and not being able to see them... Thank you a million times !!! 😊
I agree with Jacquelyn Burrows who commented 30 minutes ago... and it's what I was thinking! This Is A Much Bigger Moment than we're maybe realizing right now! This is truly a spectacular moment! To have the opportunity to do this is nothing short of prodigious, fascinating & musically historical, at so many angles and for so many reasons! And it's just one to add to the list, of the many things they've already done and the many things that they will undoubtedly do in the future! I Am SO... Proud Of Them it bursts from my chest! These Are An Irreplaceable Fantastic 5! PTXhlc till the day I die!
Ever feel such joy and love that you don't really know what to do with yourself? I would need to start my own blog to express everything wonderful about this performance. PENTAHOLIC FOR LIFE!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this performance! Got to give Baltimore Symphony props for keeping up with PTX's arrangement of this song. I still chuckle over seeing the Maestra getting a little groove to her conducting. How many A Cappella groups have their first live performance of a newly released song permanently recorded within a celebration of American History! Pentatonix will be known forever!!! MY BABIES!!!!
I'm probably the weirdest person, but am I the only one who finds it really attractive that Scott only has one of his in-ears in? Livin' life on the edge there Scotty? I love it
I remember watching this on tv. I cant believe i didnt check them out after even tho i thought they were awesome. My friend sent me a vid on the dance of the sugar plum and thats how i became a pentaholic.😊
I missed this and the only replays here in Philadelphia are on Sept 26 in low def letterbox. Merci beaucoup, danke schön, molte grazie, ありがとうございます (arigatō gozaimasu), hantanye ,большое спасибо! (bol'šoe spasibo!), muchas gracias, tack så mycket, diolch yn fawr, taing mhór and *_THANK YOU!_*
I am so mad I was FING THERE how did I not know that pentaFINGtonix was performing??? granted I didn't know who they were at the time but I WAS THERE AND I DIDN'T KNOW AAARRRGGGG
Thanks a lot for sharing this video of amazing sound quality. I think - like many others here, too - that an orchestra is not adding to the performance of Pentatonix. So, I see this as an experiment and I guess that they will avoid in the future...
I'm wondering if it was maybe the producers idea for the orchestra to play with Pentatonix. If the orchestra was already there backing other performers anyway. Didn't get to see the performance on PBS here in our area, but I can't imagine Pentatonix choosing to have a full orchestra accompanying them.
The orchestra really takes away from Kevin and avi and drowns them out. I mean Scott Mitch and Kirstie are amazing but the way Kevin and Avi work together to move the song is what makes PTX impressive. Also, with being just 5 people they already have a lot going on because they need to make the song as equally as full as the original. It was kind of messy with more added to it. They all did great, just didn't like the idea of the orchestra.
its such a hard song to do live! so much easier in the studio because some parts in the song they have the volume adjusted in their mics but props to them! love everything they do!
Thank you so so so much for posting this! I was really sad I missed it on TV and I was looking everywhere for it and I couldn't find it anywhere so thanks a bunch!!
After seeing the Frozen medley video from superfruit, I notice that Kirstin does have the aspects of being a Disney character.. kinda like a crossover of elsa and mulan..
I recently went to a pentatonix concert and is it just me or when avi had his solos like in daft punk, evolution of mj, etc. he sounded different as if his voice sounded higher then they do in video but it was so smooth plus it was overall really cool to hear.
An I the only one that was disappointed that Scott didn't do that amazing riff? Too bad. I wanna hear this song live without the freaking orchestra, they totally screwed up their song!!! Am I right? Jeez!
about scotts riff, its much harder than you think. he used falsetto to do it, and if you try it, it sound much softer than you think. same thing if scott did his riff. his voice wouldnt be that audible. you may not like it, but look at the audience. they still cheered for them.
It really irks me that the Orchestra played with them. I mean, I'm sure the Orchestra is amazing and stuff but I want Pentatonix in their raw form, not this. Ever since the music video came out I've been waiting to watch a live version of it and this is what happens :( Avi and Kevin were completely drowned out, the timing was ruined and it just messed up the magic of Pentatonix. It still sounds amazing but I wish it could have been just them.
I think we Pentaholics have to live with the orchestral "partnership"... both the venue and the theme/focus of the overall concert dictates the involvement/primary featuring of the orchestra... as Kevin said... Pentatonix was extremely honored to be included in the Star Spangled Spectacular.
i think it was a good idea but i think they shouldn't have full orchestra it should've been just strings and have the drummer just used hi-hats instead of the full kit that way they wouldn't block kevin also i think they should've turned avi's mic up
I agree. I think they had great intentions, but for people who love Pentatonix, we enjoy the raw voices, and talent. I also noticed that they had to project their vocals a lot more than usual because of the orchestra.
The first song is awesome. But La La Latch though.. I like that they got creative by adding orchestra, but I think the addition makes them a bit distracted, especially with the rhythm.
This goes out to ALL the negative Pentaholics that seem to think the orchestra drowned out Avi and Kevin..... PUT HEADPHONES ON AND LISTEN.... You're all yelling about nothing...
I don't like how the orchestra completely drowned out Avi and Kevin. The point of an acapella group is to do their music with just their voices, not real instruments. Since, they used the orchestra they should have let Avi and Kevin sing a duet or something, so they have their moment.
first of all, i was robbed of Scott's high note. Kinda mad about that. But! I'm sorry but Kristy sounds a little off when she does her Lalala's and when she sings softly. But i do love La La Latch.
They wanted A Capella.
*adds in a huge flipping orchestra*
100% logical
PTX is an Acapella group but when they are guesting on a show they do what is asked of them. I think they are better without the orchestra.
Mitchy sounds so angelic in La La Latch!
He always sounds angelic. 😇
I love that you can still hear Avi over everything that's going on
I love PTX! I just saw them live last week and I have to say Kevin and Avi do better without the orchestra. I still can hear some parts of Avi,s and Kevin,s performance , but both of you are right about the PTX identity !
That orchestra sucks the life out of why PTX is great. Whoever decided that was a good idea... bro it wasn't a good idea. :P
I guess it was just for the experience. But you are All right!!
BUT they had the microphones amped enough so that all the vocals were still very prominent. Mitch has the sweetest voice. Ever.
the orchestra should've played with them for let freedom ring instead
I think the orchestra kinda ruined it tbh, I liked "Let Freedom Ring" the way it was, I think it was more powerful with just PTX
KIRSTIE KILLED THIS WOWOWOWOWOW
Kirstin is so strong in this!!!!
Thank you so much !!!
When you live outside USA, it's so frustrating to hear about TV shows and not being able to see them...

I remember watching this on t.v. on the 4th of July. But in the description box, it says this happened in September. Can someone please explain?

Yeah I'm a new fan now that's real talent!
I'm probably the weirdest person, but am I the only one who finds it really attractive that Scott only has one of his in-ears in? Livin' life on the edge there Scotty? I love it
This is the first time in 3 years that I was not blown away from a ptx performance (la la latch)
ugh they're all so perfect asdfghjkl
I love how we can clearly hear the PTX fans in the audience representing!! :)
reminded me of when I was a kid.We had to learn this song, Let Freedom Ring, because our country meant it. They did it so right.
AMAZING! They are soooo insanely talented it's scary!
Beautiful like always:)) Love PTX
yeah Mitch
I am going to have to have a chat with Scott and Mitch about these print shirts they keep wearing.
am I the only one who actually enjoyed the performance?? Most of the comments are complaining but I honestly thought it was amazing :)
Kirstie is life
I remember watching this on tv. I cant believe i didnt check them out after even tho i thought they were awesome. My friend sent me a vid on the dance of the sugar plum and thats how i became a pentaholic.😊

Too bad the orchestra was in the way :/
+The Paradox Luckily I could see them great :)
I remember watching this on t.v. on the 4th of July. But in the description box, it says this happened in September. Can someone please explain?
Omg they did sooo good not that I expected anything less 😍
So beautiful.
Amazing Pentatonix.
They kinda lost rhythm in La la la latch, they managed, but their version with just them is better. Let freedom ring was freaking amazing!
Thank you!
Your voices are very good wish you were the worlds best singers
More thanks! They are just amazing and give me the chills!

Try to listen with headphones, they still sound great
Thank you SOOO much for this! :') #bliss
Thankyou soooo much!! ♡
The orchestra spoild it totally for Avi and Kev... But OMG Mitch voice from 5:30-5:45!!! They all did great!
AGREE....
I was at this concert! It was fantastic
always perfect~~~
Thank you so much for posting this video!
I recommend everybody to watch this with headphones! Easier to hear Avi and Kevin :)
As usual AMAZING.
Beautiful
Love these guys❤️
thank you for uploading ptx performance!!
OMG AVI WHO GAVE YOU THE RIGHT TO LOOK THIS GOOD
Mitch 's high voice tho
After seeing the Frozen medley video from superfruit, I notice that Kirstin does have the aspects of being a Disney character.. kinda like a crossover of elsa and mulan..
She reminds me of stitch from Lilo & Stitch
why stitch?
Omygosh Omygosh Omygosh!!! Thank you so much for this!
yoooo that was awesome
It sounds much much better with earphones. You can definitely pick out their voices :)
I recently went to a pentatonix concert and is it just me or when avi had his solos like in daft punk, evolution of mj, etc. he sounded different as if his voice sounded higher then they do in video but it was so smooth plus it was overall really cool to hear.
It will be different live because a huge part of bass is feeling it and you can't feel it in videos :)
MIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTCCCCCCCCHHHHHHH!!! xD
The orchestra should've never played with them Timing is so messed up.
Whenever you hear the actual bass and drums play on 3:59 while seeing Avi and Kevin doing their parts, it like they're really playing their parts!
Its pretty cool how they use there own voices as an part instead of instruments
Amen!! beautiful!!! dagum gum y"!!
AND I MISSED THIS!?!?!?!?!
The orchestra kinda spoiled it for me as Kevin was made redundant. Still Avi looked yummy.
And Avi's bass got smothered too
the orchestra ruined it for me ... tbh
IKR!
+Fay „Avi'dfan60“ Samuel Magic of their art lies in the fact that they make oneself all the accompanying sounds. Any band this magic destroys.
Yummy is the perfect word to reference him.
MITCH IN 5:30 WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DAMN!
YAAAAAAAS!!!
it was bit faster than original MV.
but still i like it
Kirstie
An I the only one that was disappointed that Scott didn't do that amazing riff? Too bad. I wanna hear this song live without the freaking orchestra, they totally screwed up their song!!! Am I right? Jeez!

Why did they speed up La La Latch so much? Lots of timing issues there but loved the over all performance.
PTX Rocks.

Richard Mao That is so true! We Pentaholics are purists when it comes to their music. I also agree that it was a tremendous honour them.
Setuju.... it's indonesian laguange by the way, it's means i agree with you *****
i think it was a good idea but i think they shouldn't have full orchestra it should've been just strings and have the drummer just used hi-hats instead of the full kit that way they wouldn't block kevin also i think they should've turned avi's mic up

It seems that I can't find the right words to say about their performance. Help.
The first song is awesome. But La La Latch though.. I like that they got creative by adding orchestra, but I think the addition makes them a bit distracted, especially with the rhythm.
Oh was there an orchestra? I only had eyes for Avi....love when he la la swayed to this..lol
Gotta love his confidence
Lalalach sounds so much better with the orchestra. They harmonize so beautifully.
The title of the first song is My Country tis of Thee. It's a patriotic song :P
This goes out to ALL the negative Pentaholics that seem to think the orchestra drowned out Avi and Kevin..... PUT HEADPHONES ON AND LISTEN.... You're all yelling about nothing...

Let freedom ring is the same tune as god save our queen...
first of all, i was robbed of Scott's high note. Kinda mad about that. But! I'm sorry but Kristy sounds a little off when she does her Lalala's and when she sings softly. But i do love La La Latch.
