I pray that all Catholics and other Christians will learn to say things with love like this. This is the language that can actually make people stop and listen. Not the language of self-righteousness and "holier-than-thou'' tone which you would often see in a lot of social media comments section. It would only push people further away and I hope that all Christians would learn to speak with REAL love and MERCY towards their neighbors. ❤

Absolutely important, but misses the actions of those who are against abortion, but also ignore why any woman would get an abortion. If Tesla prevents naturally occurring abortions by reducing pollution? Local politicians support banning abortion, but don't support working wages, women's healthcare (or healthcare in general), and remove money from kids nutrition programs. These moves are what caused women to want an abortion because they don't have the resources to support a child.
The devil distracts. It goes both ways. It's worth a thought. Abortion being legal doesn't cause the abortion, the reason is usually social economic.
That's why ironically when Democrats have the most political power nationally abortion rates decrease, not because abortions are harder to obtain, but because the social and economic reasons for wanting an abortion are decreased.
Both "sides" aren't equal. People with support and who are shown love by people practicing the beatitudes fare much better than those who are subject to that who are against abortion but do not practice the beatitudes. Actions speak louder than words, no?

her music is also about pride, about stepping on people. i find that just as distasteful as the abortion matter. sorry i don’t get the appeal… i think she may be messing with demonic things. i’ll pray for her conversion. she leads women to think it’s great to dump and hurt men, to aspire to be RICH, richer than your boyfriend, to engage in premarital sex and fornication… so i suppose it would be illogical for her to be pro life. she’s promoting a lifestyle that creates life but doesn’t want to deal with the responsibility of sexual inter course: the very real possibility that you’re creating a human being, what it’s intended for!

This is the problem with today's celebrity culture: there are no artists, there's influencer activists. I don't want to support a platform for political or moral views I can't in good conscience support. I just want to engage with good art. It's backwards that I am forced to choose. There's a difference between someone's views bleeding into their art; that's inevitable, they're creating from their perspective, and it can be valuable to converse with. I mean, it's hard to find mainstream music, for example, which does not express a disordered view of love and sexuality. But, as long as it's a personal story of honest pursuit of truth - paired with good craftsmanship ofc - it's enough for beauty. (Even lyrics about hookups can be about looking for genuine connection, the innate human need of love, about its worth reflected in the bad and broken things people do instead of facing it directly... and all that, may I add, with or without authorial intent, actually. Real art is bigger than its author.) Parasocial relationships mean that you put the artist before the art, and that is dangerous in many ways. I would sure as heck not want to support personal choices of many a classic author, for example - and consuming their work should not be seen as such. I want to be able to listen to a good song without selling my heart to the singer who shouts support of murder. I not only do not need, but actively do not want celebrities whose work I like to be vocal on social and political issues; that is not their role, it goes actively against their role. Of course everyone is entitled to be a human being with their own thoughts and values - but it really doesn't need to be public, even if you're a public figure, in fact especially then. And it's positively absurd that we're looking to actors, musicians, fashionistas, randomly famous people, for guidance and validation and moral judgements. I think it would be best if we could go back to not talking about things not directly linked to promoted releases or irrelevant lifestyle fluff. (K-pop is a good blueprint for how that can work and still generate enormous engagement and money.) Of course, if someone really is passionate about their views and not just virtue-signalling, it's like asking a Catholic to not preach the Gospel, not stand up against abortion and injustice, not mention their beliefs at all. And yet, shouldn't it be a standard in a professional setting to a degree? Didn't it use to be the standard for non-political, non-activist, non-religious public figures? We should be having public debates about important things, yes; but maybe entertainers shouldn't be the ones to be having it. It's different than a private debate. (In saying that, I actually think people like Joe Rogen are a different category in that his whole thing is - I gather - about generating dialogue, presenting different views on political, social, and ethical issues, and in fact reaching a varied audience from all sides and modelling respectful exchange of ideas rather than closing oneself off in an echo chamber. If this is correct, then I think this absolutely is worth supporting, because it's always been bigger than Joe himself, is very needed, and was never meant just for entertainment. Very different than a singer or a face of a fashion brand giving lip service for clout).
Once you are in that parasocial relationship and really are invested in the good of the person, yes, I think it's a very painful but very real question of how and when you support them. First and foremost, pray for them. Secondly, yes, maybe withdrawing practical support when they advocate for evil is better not just for you, but for them especially. There are many levels of advocacy and many issues, too - there's a difference between a tweet and actively sharing one's profits with organisations doing evil things, there's a difference between vague "allyship" to LGBT and outright glorifying killing of innocents - so I think there's many appropriate responses. (Abortion and hurting children in any other way should probably be non-negotiable.) I love the perspective of offering the loss of something important to you for the very person you cut out, or for the cause of the culture of life.

I have a few questions I’ve been thinking about all day…
Does anyone have any recommendations of music to listen to instead of Taylor Swift that’s still pop?
Where is the line drawn on supporting Taylor? As a fan I’d love to support her still, even if that means not listening to her music.
If God wants the best for us and to see us with joy, what should we do if Swift does bring us joy?
Where should the line be drawn on other serious matters like LGBTQ to support companies and people.
Where should the line be drawn on topics as equally concerning, but less grave than abortion in terms of support?
Could you still support a music artist even though they don’t use their media or earnings for abortion or other serious issues? Like if they support the prevention of livestock being slaughtered for consumption, could we still listen to them?
If you could answer one or all of these things as close to God’s truth as possible that’d be amazing, thanks :)

Thank you for your charitable words! I'd love to hear more about how to apply these principles in a world where most major corporations support evil things...e.g. I don't think there's a single grocery store in my area that doesn't support pride month. To me, there's a difference between "supporting" it by trying to make a cash grab by selling a lot of rainbow trash and/or lip service on social media, and actually donating proceeds to activist organisations. Ideally, one would avoid even the first one, but since it can be practically impossible, I think at some point you do what you gotta do. (Maybe look into internet options or small private businesses in your area? But at the end of the day, you gotta feed your family.) But the second one, I would make every possible effort to avoid, since your money (even the tiniest portion of it) will be used directly for something wrong.
And that's "just" Pride month. The deeper you go and realise, for example, how many gigantic corporations support abortion, you'll start to go crazy trying to avoid the 90% of the market they own. I can cut out Johnson&Johnson (the hypocrisy!!! They actually financed experiments on human embryos), but Nestlé owns brands you'd never suspect and it's everywhere... I think the solution is almost always to go for the local, the privately owned, the no-name options whenever possible (that also usually answers the moral dilemma of contributing to immoral treatment of workers). And, in the end, you're still gonna make some careless or wrong choices one way or another. The thing is, virtue-signalling is everywhere. I should not know nor care what the political opinions a company holds (which, I mean, only tells you what opinions the CEO's and marketing people thought would bring them the most money). It's literally not why I go to a freaking store. Every tiniest everyday choice we make should not have to be this painful moral dilemma, it's unsustainable for humans to worry this much.

To be fair, there's a difference between repentance and non-repentance. Those who engage in pro-abortion views are active stances. Not past transgressions. Those who were engaged in prior church scandals have faced repercussions and there are innocent individuals who were not associated with any sort of scandal by association. Judgment of the heart is for God, but ongoing righteous judgment is discernment. It would be uncharitable to compare the two, unless there were individuals who continued to do cover-ups and justify such cover-ups.

I live in Maryland and I’m inundated with commercials of lawyers preparing a huge law suit against the Catholic Church now that statues of limitation have been lifted. There are still people who restitution has not been made. Scandals are still occurring, myself have a class mate who became a priest and had a salacious affair with a minor. He’s in jail, there was no cover up, but the question remains why good catholic men are turning out evil deeds. And I stand strongly against current catholic school policy of firing women found pregnant out of wedlock. This type of culture, longstanding in the Catholic Church, when they used to hide women found pregnant out of wedlock contributes to abortion culture. One option forced upon them was to procure an abortion to keep up appearances. Well, that culture is not gone. How can Catholic Churches fire unmarried pregnant women and call themselves pro life?!?! The problem is that the charities and organization and political parties that support abortion are the only ones giving young women and abused girls resources and opportunities to help them be mothers. There are a lot of folks that just say "you had sex, live with the consequences" even if it means bringing the child up in poverty or settings of abuse. The Church is about the only consistent group that is pro-life and wanting to help young mothers succeed. It is a difficult balancing act.

Maybe buy their media on the second market to avoid paying them directly. When I look at some of the badly made media by Catholic and/or Christian creators (case in point this family movie by Paulist Media that was so poorly produced - bad acting, wonky script, terrible camera work and an art design that was supposed to depict the 1930s but barely looked vintage - it made me walk out and lean my head against a wall crying), it's really hard. Should the effort in tandem be to promote chastity in a meaning way, hold men as culpable as they surely are (but in reality women pay the price)…proactively hold men to standards as the “leaders” they it seems bear increased responsibility. I’m not much of a swiftie but this video confuses me by having to label and single out a sinner?? I know the video itself talks more about the effects and harms of abortion but tying in the actual name of Taylor Swift feels similar to judging her and presenting her in front of others to stone. Now I know it’s not the intention of the video but just because someone is famous doesn’t make them any less human and no one would make a titled video of someone who is a regular lay person just out of mere respect and privacy. I feel like you could have presented this video without having to single someone out. I get you have the best intentions but my heart is empathetic to those who will feel attacked and felt like they’re evil for what they do. It’s one thing to say something is wrong, but another to attach someone’s name to it because we’re all sinners and we all have the right to not gossip and talk about others sins. We all go to confession in private for a reason. Idk my heart just hurt seeing the topic spread like this bc it feels like such a clickbait or to use something viral.

Sometimes we need to give them tough LOVE not harsh love but a love that lets them know their actions has consequences. How will they ever learn & if we love them we definitely want them going down the right path & not the wrong one. So let’s pray for this courage to correct others with love like Christ does with us. Such a good talk Fr. Mark Mary! From my observations TS is always unhappy after a breakup. Yes, it provides song (sad) material for her but this should be a message to all that define their happiness by whether they have a romantic relationship.

Is this sacrificing forever or for a set amount of time? I want to participate by not playing a game but I do want to play it still. I’m not wanting to be selfish or not care for the salvation of souls, but would I basically not be able to play my game ever again? I can’t control what the company, and every company that I buy a game from puts their money. Pretty much every game company and studio supports pride and I want to not buy the game to help make a stand, but I also want to play games. I could use clarification and prayers because I’m convicted and sooooooooooo confused.
