    I appreciate in depth videos like this because asking a lot of people I know in person is a waste of time.
    Chiefly, I don't want to damage my car. Thank you much.

    Very informative, thank you for both showing and explaining what you are doing and why you are doing it one way vs another.

    Thank you. Something I learned when putting a vehicle on ramps but on a surface that is not great is to put thick rubber mats under the ramps to prevent the ramps slipping whatsoever. Again, thank you for making this. All the best feom the UK. 👍

    Great video! But I wanted to ask ya a different question being because I have to change my Sway bar bushings so I got to take my sway bar links off. Now my sway bar links have been replaced already but I don't know if the bolts on the links have to be torqued or not.

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Every nut and bolt on the car has a torque spec. I am not sure what it is for the links. You need tech manual, or maybe google can help.

    Is it not necessary to use a pinch weld puck to protect the pinch weld when using either a jack or a jack stand?

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably doesn't hurt. The car doesn't come with one. If you have a flat on the side of the road, you probably won't be using one, unless you thought to buy one ahead of time.

    Does the front crossmember work for the kia soul?

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The strongest areas would be the crossmember mount points. Those are designed to support the weight. Using the middle of the crossmember to lift both side of the car at once... Would it work? Possibly, but that area is not designed to support all that weight, focused on a small point. I wouldn't take the chance with my car.

    I used stands for my peugeot 205 as she was built to be lifted and worked on, for my kia ceed ive had to buy and use ramps for doing oil changes as there is no central point at the front and like your soul at the rear there is no decent central point. thanks for the helpful information!

    when i look @ my 2016 kia soul, i see plastic cover, do i need to remove the plastic to expose the pinch weld area?

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      You should not need to. The jack points should be exposed. The plastic may just be in front of it.

    At the 4:29 mark, is there concern that the piece for the scissor jack will bend?

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is it impossible for that to bend? No. But that point is designed to support the weight vertically. The manufacturer has specified it as such in the manual. As long as you follow their instructions (flat ground etc.) It should be fine. I haven't seen a pinch weld bend in those areas. I have seen them bend in areas away from the lift point. So as always, be careful, read and follow the manual, and use caution.

    • @dad0041
      @dad0041 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheFixitShed Thanks for the response. I was concerned because my jack stands have a mostly flat top. The scissor jack has like a pocket for the pinch weld to sit in. Based on what you said, I should be ok. Correct? Also, it normally takes DAYS to get responses. So, thanks again for the prompt response.

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My jack stands are flat as well. no problems. Unfortunately, it doesn't take long for the volume of comments to become overwhelming for youtube creators. The Fixit Shed is still a small channel, so I am able to keep up.

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A Kia Soul weighs about 3000 lbs. A 1 ton (2000) jack should be ok for lifting one side.

    Thank you. I hope I can find that single nut to jack the car up with. Would it be safe to jack it up one corner at a time, with one jack stand holding it, if I'm doing a brake job? Not going under the car.
    Someone said it might bend the body so I'll probably do both sides like you did. This is the most frustrating part of this brake job so far lol

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you were jacking it up to change a tire, you would only lift one corner. You can bend the car if you jack it up in the wrong spot, but if you do it as shown in the video, it should be fine.

    Excuse me, this other TH-camr says the rear axle steel is fine to jack ( on a Toyota ). What makes you dismiss the axle on the Kia Soul ?
    I see other YTers place the jack on the Kia Soul's rear axle.
    Thx!

      My video is trying to show the safest (for you and your car) way to jack up the car. That axel was not designed for lifting the weight of the car in the middle of the axel. When I look at the video you linked, the axel looks like it is beginning to bow a little when he has the jack under it. Will it support the weight? Maybe, but I am not willing to risk an expensive repair, and I am not going to advise others to either.
