    Regarding research, I was wondering if you're pursuing research in a specialty that you would potentially like to get a residency matched in or just general interest? I'm just wondering how much of the research sways residency matches, if any. Aside from that, great video - makes me more motivated!!!!!

    • @nxtgenmd
      @nxtgenmd  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Arani :D I'd say that the majority of us are doing research in fields that we are interested in, however, many projects are relevant to multiple specialties. A case report on a ruptured abscess for example can be used to show interest in general surgery, emergency medicine, and even internal depending on how you sell it. From what I'm told, research is very important to some programs and not at all to others. However, I think that in the very least, a few projects can help make you a well-rounded applicant for residency matching. But there are other ways to stand out too.
      Glad to hear it - keep it up 🔥💪

    For med school research, do you have to be involved with the writing or just the experiment and stuff like that? Cause idk how you still got time for research in an accelerated program 😫

    • @nxtgenmd
      @nxtgenmd  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I definitely need to be involved with the write up 🥺😅 I really don't do "experiments" anymore in terms of wet lab work. For the most part, research for me has been systematic reviews, case reports, chart reviews and other things of that nature. Other people definitely can do lab experiments if they're interested in that, but its all about finding the time 💪

    Hi Gianluca! Seeing you working on your research in the vlog really reflected my position right now! :) Currently, I am also doing research for the 1st time and I'm about to start it with a researcher very soon this week. I have a question and that is, how can you approach your researcher about your interest in being part of the publication or in the acknowledgement section? Do you have to work with them for a year or do you have to show them your skills to be eligible? How can I go about this as I'm really interested to be a part of a research publication in order to contribute something valuable.
    My 2nd question is: your work ethic and time-management skills amazes me! When you study, how can you keep your mind focused and be "present" solely on that task? Personally, my stamina or attention span is weak and my mind get distracted quickly by outside thoughts. This is something that I struggle with very often. I know there is a advice which to say focused and be at the present moment but doing it is really hard for me and I want to focus on efficiency since my exams are starting from next month.

    • @nxtgenmd
      @nxtgenmd  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Arpita, that's awesome :D I hope it's on a topic that you enjoy. The standard is that if you've contributed to the research in any meaningful way (you've conducted experiments, you helped with the final paper write up, etc.) then you need to be included in the publication. Normally though, students won't be given major roles on projects for their first time (speaking from personal experience 😅) However, if you're aiming for a publication, be very honest with your supervisor. Sit with them for a brief meeting and explain what you're looking for and ask if they can help - if that's not possible with the current project, the might be able to help out with another one.
      Regarding your second question, a lot of it comes down to personal experience and the right mindset. With years of "practice" studying for long hours, I've gotten quite good at clearing the distractions from around me and getting to work. The second most important thing though is to remember what's at stake. If I don't study... bad things are going to happen 😅 both to myself, but also to others at this point. Once you frame it correctly, you should feel much more motivated 💪
      Good luck!
