@aswchris: Yes, that is indeed quite a frequent issue, out here in California (and we're far from the only state that doesn't do a good job at offering a smooth transition from surface roadway to overpass decks.
It's nice to see someone else's perspective of the freeway in my front yard (almost literally). I moved to the area while they were redoing this section of 680, and I remember the temporary fly-over going to southbound 680. That thing was freaky high.
Been waiting for a I-680 video! Great coverage, forgot how that freeway looked beyond CA 24. Should have rolled I-780 into it as well since it's so short! Can't wait for the rest!
I'm so sorry you ended up watching this. I forgot to delete this video. *Please* watch the edited version, by going to my TH-cam home page and scrolling down to the 2nd video, showcasing I-680 North from Alamo to Concord. Thank you!
@calihapamama: Oh yeah, I remember that old flyover ramp. I went on it only a handful of times as a youth, but never did get a chance to drive it. Hopefully, I can re-record this with my new camcorder sometime, as the image stabilization is vastly improved over the Canon that I used to record this footage. Thanks for watching. :-)
@adogg619: That transition is pretty typical of the greater Bay Area. I did not bother to record the final 12 miles of I-680, since it is a pretty boring stretch of roadway.
@Hstylezx408: Yup yup, the toll lane is still on target for a Sept. 20th opening date. I should be back in the area by the end of the month to record it. Actually, has CalTrans improved the surface condition of the pavement over the Sunol Grade in the southbound direction in recent weeks/months? I'd like to have a smooth surface to record on, if possible.
Great video and at 3:40 you went through the fastrak ort lane, but here in the Northeast we use EZ pass and I think it will be better if California adopts the same electronic toll collection as NJ,NY,MD,PA,and OH
@shmoopsy87: That is indeed a nice town. One of the more charming downtowns in the Bay Area; I try to hit up one of their cafes/restaurants, whenever I visit my uncle.
@Calif0rnIan: This is somewhat of a random question, but whatever happened to that beaver dam thru Martinez that became controversial, a few years back?
Spacious freeway. I like freeways with a 2-digit lane count. What bothers me is the bad condition of the pavement at small overpasses. You don't see this problem in most of Europe, smooth pavement all the way, some bridges do not even have dilatation joints.
Nice video, but I hate how the Caltrans departments in San Jose, San Francisco and some parts of Orange County cheaply put the exit numbers amongst the button copy signs instead of replacing the whole sign.
Amazing Video!

Dude, my kids will be created to this song. Mark my words. ;-) haha
Great video! I really enjoyed this one a lot!
I love it! At the interchange with CA24 everyone on I-680 all merge to the left..

@XCtrackRUNnner: Me too. :P Thanks for watching.
I like how I-680 goes from urban to almost rural in a matter of miles.

awesome video!
Definitely a fun ride, good job!
@Cyrus992: lol, never seen it, but thanks for the tip. I'll have to check it out, soon.

Great video, but at what point is the bridge shown (and I know it's all outdoors on the bridge just like on the Antioch, San Mateo and Dumbarton.
@Bryant5493: Thank you, sir!
@FreewayBrent Just look it up on wikipedia, just search for martinez california and there's a huge section dedicated to the beavers ;)

Never mind, I saw the bridge at 4:12 to the end (the roadway, anyway.)
i wanna go for a drive :D
@Calif0rnIan: Just did. Thanks for the info!
