Whoa! This is a blast from the past. About 40 years ago I was a San Francisco street artist and commuted daily from my grandfather's ranch in Lagoon Valley, Vacaville.

Great as always. Seeing nice weather like this makes me jealous.
Something that I hadn't noticed before was the usage of a white painted diamond for the HOV lane. In the HRM a white diamond denotes a bus lane.

Ahh, yes. You'll also see carpool lanes around Toronto and Vancouver, marked with diamonds. Not sure about the other Canadian cities.
Johannesburg in South Africa is now adding carpool lanes on, I believe, 4 different freeways, and will also have diamonds painted on the pavment.

The transition from Suburbia to "The Middle of Nowhere" in the first 90 seconds of the video was very interesting.
I love to film to freshly paved roads like this because not only because is it smoother but the road really "pops" on the video.

Good thing you mentioned EZPass. I still need to mail in my own EZPass, so I can get a credit of $52 deposited back into my checking account. Same goes for SunPass (about $35, sitting in that account).

@Frum5: Oh goodness, no. The stretch between CA 12 West and Meridian Ave near Vacaville was arguably the 2nd worst stretch of pavement in the entire state of California (after I-80 over the Sierra's). I cringed, every time I had to drive thru there. There was one particular concrete slab along WB I-80 between Fairfield & Vacaville which was so bad, that it actually sent my 2009 Corolla flying in the air for just a spare moment. Truly scary stuff!

I'm sure modernizing the infrastructure is being done now, in hopes to impress Int'l tourists, but Johannesburg has some of the more maddening freeway congestion in the world. Parts of the N1 freeway, for example, carries about 200,000 vehicles a day on just 6 lanes, and badly needed a makeover. The M1 approaches 200,000 vehicles a day on an 8 lane stretch, as well.

Dude your videos always look so amazing. May I ask what kind of camcorder do you use?

Ha, cool. I drive this section, anywhere from 2 to 6 times a month, and I shuffle between the Bay Area and Sacramento, a lot.

West Coast cities tend to have bigger suburbs than in the east coast, where all suburbs are typically small towns with 5,000 - 25,000 population. Mesa, AZ a suburb of Phoenix has a population of 460,000. That's bigger than St. Louis, Miami, Minneapolis, or Pittsburgh.

Housing gotta be pretty unaffordable in the Bay Area to make people commute 50 miles!
