Thank you immensely for your videos, Brent. Because I can't afford the gas to drive around California (or anywhere else, really), your video tours, in combo with the music, pull me in and allow me to escape into them and feel like I'm there rolling down the road. I really enjoy them!
Glad you enjoyed, Luke! I grew up less than a mile from the Woodside Rd exit in this video, and have been on it literally thousands of times. I always took it for granted, until I started exploring other parts of the country, and only in the past several years have I come to realize just how special of a drive this really is, considering it's a major commuter route along the Peninsula.
The first version of this was one of the videos that got me into your channel! This rendition completely blew the old one away! Awesome drive and that never gets old!
Great video as always. I travel this stretch of highway whenever I head south from SF to San Luis Obispo - 280 to 85 then to 101. 280, to me, always looks its best when it's foggy (not heavy fog but enough to cloud the sky up) the green looks better when the sun isn't showcasing how dry it's been. But when it is sunny, the hills and mountains to the west look fantastic when the fog is just creeping right over them. On the return trips, I like the hwy to myself so I'm usually on the 280 by 1am
This freeway is strikingly similar to the A1 Naples-Rome motorway, which has six lanes instead of eight, though. The landscape is very similar, especially to the stretch after entering Latium, about the last hour and a half's drive before reaching Rome. There are a lot of beautiful sights, National Parks and places of interest along that motorway, too. Thanks a lot for your great videos, Brent. They let me dream of driving on American freeways.
Really glad you enjoyed. To be honest, the directions you gave me between SF and the Central Coast is pretty much my same choice of routes, too. I grew up in Redwood City, so I know all about seeing that coastal fog roll over the crest of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Thanks for watching!
Love that freeway. I drove it a lot while doing my newspaper internship in Oakland. Another factoid: The San Andreas Fault parallels 280 just to the west. I believe the reservoirs near 280 are on the fault line.
Wow, thanks a lot! I just got back from Vancouver and the Canadian Rockies, so I didn't get around to reading this until now. Glad you enjoyed. I'm thinking my next video will continue the ride along I-280 to downtown SF, or perhaps US 101 in Marin County.
Yeah, exactly! You can clearly see the extreme contrast of the suburban sprawl along the bayside, compared to the near wilderness along I-280, by watching my US 101 video, driving up to San Francisco. And yet, the 2 freeways never lie more than 4 miles apart along the Peninsula. Glad you enjoyed the ride. :-)
this is my neighborhood also. at the end of this route, also off San Bruno exit, is National Cemetery (Golden Gate). a mile earlier the exit for skyline blvd takes you up through dramatic views of the south san francisco side of mount san bruno also. highly recommended
Hey there! Sorry I didn't respond sooner; I've been on vacation in Vancouver for the past week. Glad you enjoyed. As of right now, I don't have a camcorder that is suitable for night-time videos. I sold my Canon Vixia HF200, 'cause the image stabilization on it was poor, and the current camcorder I use, the Flip Ultra 3rd generation, does not do well under poor lighting conditions. But agree, this would be a GREAT song for a night time video.
Wow what a PRIVILEGE to be able to just sit back and enjoy such a tour -- another fine video! I have recently advertised your TH-cam channel at work. Hope you get some new subscribers as a result!
I don't even want to try and compare the old version with this one. I'm going to delete the old version, as soon as I get a chance, lol. Glad you enjoyed the "remix".
Hey there...just read this comment. Thanks for stopping by and commenting, and I'm glad you enjoyed the ride. What caused you to move away from the Bay Area in the first place? P.S. - I grew up on the Peninsula, right by the Woodside Road exit in Redwood City.
Thanks, man! Glad you enjoyed. It does get congested, on and off for about 7 miles from CA 92, down to Sand Hill Road in the morning (1/3 of all venture capitalist deals in the United States goes down, just off the Sand Hill Road exit to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars every year), and then northbound for a few miles in the evening. Rush hour only lasts for about 1.5 hours during the morning and afternoon, though.
The truly amazing thing is that the suburban sprawl that runs for 60+ miles from San Francisco to South San Jose lies just on the other side of the hills, to the right of this freeway. San Mateo County citizens and local environmentalist groups have repeatedly made efforts to maintain a permanent open space boundary. The end result is what you see in this video. US 101 along the SF Peninsula, never more than 4 miles to the east, is one of California's busier and most congested freeways.
Thanks a lot! I agree; there are definitely more scenic stretches of freeway in California, but it's hard to find a more scenic urban one than I-280. US 101 through Marin County is another one for sure (as you mentioned in your comment); I'm going to feature that stretch in the next month or two.
Thanks so much! You may really enjoy what I have coming up soon...spoiler alert: my next video will feature a dramatic stretch of roadway in the State of Arizona.
Great video, features and audio is fantastic! SF Bay area is the Mainland US's best place to live - natural beauty, cool culture, good climate (except on the oceanside of the hill), too bad it is way to expensive... I-280 is pretty but not the most scenic in California, look at: I-5 near the Oregon border, US-101 leaving SF north to Marin, etc.
I grew up in Redwood City, so I've been on this freeway more than any other in my life (even more than US 101, since I only lived a minute from the Woodside Rd exit). I was trying to figure out a slot in the video to mention the San Andreas Fault, but I felt like adding anymore annotations was simply going to burden my viewers with too much reading, lol. And yes, you're right, the Crystal Springs Reservoir (both the northern and southern halves) lie right on top of the fault line.
My dad always used I-280 over 101, whenever possible. Especially during the dot.com boom days, we basically avoided 101 at almost all costs. Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching!
Just read this now, as I've been on vacation for over a week now. I try to communicate with my subscribers, although it's not always possible with my busy schedule. Glad you've been tuning in. I'm thinking I-280 into downtown SF will be my next video. Stay tuned...
It's a shame that my US 101 video from San Mateo to SF got blocked recently on TH-cam, due to a copyright "battle" between TH-cam and EMI Records. I'm hoping it's unblocked in the coming weeks ahead. In fact, I think I may go ahead and upload the video right now to my FreewayBrent fan page on Facebook.
lived in Los altos 1966-76 so I saw 280 built piece by piece, drove dads 59 black Vette on it at 135 mph and when I bought it in 1982 and built a 350, it went much faster. threw a rod at 140mph going south just before San Antonio. and in high school we "drove the clover leaf" over and over at San Antonio- 280. Foothill expressway was the RR track until late 1967.
What a great ride on an awesome freeway!! I especially enjoyed the breathtaking scenery!! Are you going to make any more videos in the San Francisco area and across the Golden gate bridge?
Generally speaking, it is *definitely* greener, the further north you head. You can, however, find some forests up in the higher mountain ranges in Southern California. Type in, "Angeles National Forest" on wikipedia, and you'll see a nice picture. It lies just north of Los Angeles.
Ah.. my old stomping grounds. I remember making the drive from Belmont to Fry's Electronics in Palo Alto to return a mobo that kept shorting out. Turns out it was user error... oops. This is a great section of highway!
Great vid! I moved to this area in 1970 and it's amazing that it still looks the same. BTW, what camera and mount are you using? When I try this, I get too much camera shake.
I remember taking this freeway in the mid mid 1980's in high school. I could leave my girlfriends home in portola valley at 1am and drive to belmont and exit on the 92 to ralston ave and the entire time on the freeway I would never see a single car. NOT ONE. It was like my own personal autobahn with no cars and no speed limits. Of course this was 1985 and there were no cell phones no internet and no google and NO EFFING PEOPLE ON THE 280 FREEWAY PAST 1OPM-EVER.
Love the video - this road is like a parkway!
It is a fantastic freeway indeed. I'm glad I get to drive it almost every day.
OH GAWD! Now I feel really old... I went to San Carlos High, class of - 1977! I'm going to go cry now...lol
Thank you immensely for your videos, Brent. Because I can't afford the gas to drive around California (or anywhere else, really), your video tours, in combo with the music, pull me in and allow me to escape into them and feel like I'm there rolling down the road. I really enjoy them!

Same
Same here; I grew up in Redwood City. Used to drive this on a daily basis, until I finally moved out of the area in 2009. Glad you enjoyed!
The first version of this was one of the videos that got me into your channel! This rendition completely blew the old one away! Awesome drive and that never gets old!
.. great ride Brent, lovely views - and from a 4 lane freeway! Fantastic! ..
Great video as always. this is the truth, your videos are considered the best in the time lapse type , really thank you .
Woodside High. Wildcat pride! Graduated in 2000. And you?
Very nice ride, great song choice and well executed, 5*****

That little car at 5:30 is so cute and funny! They sure chose interesting colors for it! hehe :)
I used to work at HP in Palo Alto. This was a regular commute route for me in the 1970s. This brought back great memories. Thanks.
Very nice vids!
Have done many of these drives myself since moving to the Bay Area in the late 90s. Great scenery and the culture is second to none.
very nice brent. love the 280 along the peninsula.

Loved that bridge crossing! Great ride.

One of my favorite drives when I lived in the Bay Area in the early 80's. Glad to see that it still looks great after all of these years. :)
Love it. My old stomping grounds. Lived in San Carlos for years and drove the hell out of 280.
I actually released my last video, 3 weeks ago, featuring I-17 in the Phoenix area. Nice to see you back on my home page, my friend.
this is my neighborhood also.
at the end of this route, also off San Bruno exit, is National Cemetery (Golden Gate).
a mile earlier the exit for skyline blvd takes you up through dramatic views of the south san francisco side of mount san bruno also. highly recommended
Really cool video, Brent! Enjoyed the ride.

Cool man, thanks for watching! Hoping to get back out to Toronto sometime soon, to re-record the entire freeway network with my newer camcorder.
Glad you enjoyed; thanks for dropping by!
Great to hear from you, glad you enjoyed!
Wow what a PRIVILEGE to be able to just sit back and enjoy such a tour -- another fine video!

Perhaps! Glad you enjoyed the ride.

Yeah, it's definitely quite a unique route, considering how close it is to the bayside sprawl of the San Francisco Bay Area. Glad you enjoyed!
amazing work here brent!

I can't imagine that the 280 gets clogged with traffic everyday, great choice of song.

Good observation. I actually used the same exact song for my original I-280 video, which I plan on deleting any second now.
great video!!!!! thanks for posting

Hey Brent, great video. It's been a long time since you made and uploaded a video
Love it. Sure beats the M25 around London!
Lived in the bay area for a while so know it well...
Thank you.
I'm sure the Bay Area would very much welcome you back. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the props!
Great video and you should have done Bc-99 from Surrey to Vancouver and Bc-99 used to be Us-99s Canadian continuation
My dad always used I-280 over 101, whenever possible. Especially during the dot.com boom days, we basically avoided 101 at almost all costs. Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching!

Whoa, I didn't know that. I just assumed they shut it down, after all the excessive drinking, drug usage and sex that went on at that Vista Point.
Haha, no. I actually filmed this in October, before the rains came. Finally got aruond to working on it, this past weekend.
It sure is. I'm not exactly sure which block the explosion happened along, but it's definitely within a mile or so of that interchange.
PS They allow me to go places I may never go, and for that I am fully thankful. :)
soon i will be in CA :D
i wish take a ride with u ...
Thanks!
Ah.. my old stomping grounds. I remember making the drive from Belmont to Fry's Electronics in Palo Alto to return a mobo that kept shorting out. Turns out it was user error... oops. This is a great section of highway!
Same here. Thanks for watching, mang. :-)
Thanks man!
Nice to hear from you! Glad you enjoyed; does Atlanta have anything remotely like I-280?
Awessome!
Great vid!
you've used this Deadmau5 song in another video before, right?
Strange that I didn't even notice that, until I read this comment, lol.
I just uploaded my US 101 video up to San Francisco, on my Facebook fan page, just in case you're curious to watch. It's blocked on TH-cam. :-(
does the TH-cam is 901 Cherry Ave in San Bruno i dont know the exit for TH-cam
Yeah, it's definitely a neat bridge. Try Google Images; about 3 or 4 dozen images of the bridge will pop up.
Great vid!
I moved to this area in 1970 and it's amazing that it still looks the same.
BTW, what camera and mount are you using? When I try this, I get too much camera shake.
Wow, I really appreciate the kudos. Glad you enjoyed. Is this your first time commenting, because I don't remember seeing your TH-cam SN before?
You basically get off San Bruno Ave, make a right and then at the first stoplight, make a left. You will pass by a plaza and ta da, there's the HQ!
I remember taking this freeway in the mid mid 1980's in high school. lol, it's okay. Before ya know it, I'm gonna be getting up there in age soon, too. :-/
This is the Californian equivalent of the NYC parkway I guess.
Not enough money to do that, these days. :-(
first view i love it nice video
Are u gona redo the part from 380 up to at&t park
Brent, which high school did you go to and what year did you graduate?
Oh yeah, definitely. The Britney Spears song has gotta go, lol.
That's true. It's ok on this side of 50....you'll see.
That looks like math on the frwy .
34+45=
Anyone else LOL at the porta Potty at 1:20-1:26
werent you supposed to go around the world or something
Glad you enjoyed!
Glad you enjoyed!
