The radicalisation of elites - Matthew Goodwin

  • Matthew Goodwin, Professor of Politics and International Relations, University of Kent, talks about how populism is not a protest movement but a distinct ideology which prioritises the interests of the national group against the ruling elite.
This is a new, radical, elite that has come through the university system and is defined by it's social liberalism or, in modern parlance, 'wokeness'.

Britain has changed beyond all recognition since I was a child in London. I lived in a postwar socially cohesive community, English was the common language, very low crime rate. Now, the area is a mass migration hellhole. The large Asian community face crime from Roma gangs. Crime is everywhere. No police. The graduate class look down on white British people. But, when Britain becomes an Islamic state, the graduate class will wonder how it all went wrong. Their own children will have no future. The concept of democracy will no longer exist when Britain becomes an Islamic state. Think about it folks! Be careful what you wish for!

Scaremongering and not true there are almost 10 million people live in London and just over a million are Muslim. Why is this distorted to such a degree it’s really crap. Only 14% are Muslim over 40% Christian over 27% not religious and the rest Hindu Jewish and Buddhists. Yet the talk of Muslims taking over is untrue.

I have to make what I think is a very critical distinction in Mr. Goodwin's description of populism. He says that it is accompanied by the feeling that 'me and my group are being left behind, relative to other groups in society'. This is not it. The feeling is, and I am working in a working class job, serving mostly working class customers, in a working class town in the U.S.--the feeling is that we are being deliberately insulted, and even attacked, relative to other groups in society. This is key to understand. The current erasure of our history, our images, our values, our culture--our small town library's children's section is all Spanish speaking, though they comprise less than 10% of our population, for example--this is an attack, and we know it. It isn't a question of being 'left behind' at all, and frankly I find it insulting to describe it so.

If the answer to too much Leftism, is 'we need more leftism', illogical by definition, then I fear for our nation's future and it seems the brainwashing of the masses is working. I hope Mr Goodwin and others can form some sort of power base or party, something the grown-ups can vote for, which gets the UK back on course.

I hold two degrees but I have never lost sight of the graduate class's predilection for arrogance , myopia , naked self-interest and an ability to believe in absolutely insane ideas . It is absolutely mind boggling . It's as if they have been completely overhelmed a desire to be a member of a self-deluded superior social class at any cost . The cost of truth , the cost of the obvious , the cost the ruin of community , the cost of a stable sense of social cohesion , the cost of the future . I am frequently stunned by the absolute senseless rubbish which pores out of the mouths of many of my long standing liberal friends . In spite of the overt failures of liberalism over the past 50 years and the fact that liberalism has morphed into Post-Liberal Authoritarianism , they cling to it like a drowning child clinging to a lead weight of a life preserver in a raging river . They haven't the courage to admit that they have been committed to a failed belief system and that this belief system has become a totalitarian monster . So much for the power and value of education when it makes mindless conscripts of people who started out seeking truths . Perhaps , it's a case of having a little knowledge but too little knowledge or maybe it's just chronic status anxiety , the primacy of identity and fear of getting ostracised by the tribe . Whatever it is , it certainly the death of the mind and the death of truth .

He's right! Here's the problem: It is not about being right (although that is the starting point). Gerard Batten was way ahead of his time (10 years, many have reckoned), but people would not vote for him (in enough numbers). Cromwell was way ahead of his time, but he had power when he made his reforms (and still struggled with parliament to implement them). That is the key: Gaining influence with enough people to drive change. That's why Nigel Farage is so important. He has the following and the influence.

Excellent speech but only 30 seconds for what do we do? One step is to introduce the Swiss system of direct democracy. ie referendums.

    • @RichardEnglander

Technology is making Direct Democracy more appealing.
Anybody considering supporting that would do well to read Ghadaffi. He wrote a very complicated system for DD, complicated in that it seeks to be comprehensive.

Happily the elite at whatever level can't grasp that most of them will be cast aside once the mega elite have used them. Also it's those and their ancestors not the man or women in the street who were responsible for many of the alleged sins of the past.

Though one would agree with all that MG says here, our western nations haven't just evolved into the societal chaos we see today, it's not by some random chance. This breed of self-appointed 'elite' with their mindset of luxury beliefs have always existed and for decades, this New World Order in favour of a One World Government (headed exclusively by this 'elite', with facilitators) has been 'in the planning' for just as long. It is only in (relatively) recent years that their (combined) amassed wealth, power and influence has made possible this 'seize the day' implementation of their agenda - to the detriment of the quality of life of the rest of us.. Not convinced we can vote our way out of this.

The knowledge and profile of political leaders sank dramatically over the last decades. It's about opportunistic people now, how are not good enough on the free market. As it's their only way, they also feel no responsibility for the country. The elites know that and take their chance to manipulate them with heavy lobbying. It's nothing new, but thresholds are much lower now.

We need to learn about all colonialism, all empires, all slavery etc etc. There is no shame to be had in England that is no shared by all.
