I had a mini stroke which effected my right hand and I have become quite recoil sensitive. I have never shot 22 TCM but I love 5.7 x 28 mm and 22 magnum. I have PSA Rock 5.7, a Keltec PMR 30 and Walther WMP. I love shooting all three. I have found 22 magnum to be very reliable. If anybody reading this is recoil sensitive, I would highly recommend these rounds.

Try the smith $ wesson 5.7 it has almost no recoil for the power it transfers its a gas operated pistol plus if you have trouble pulling the slid back it's so much easier !

Something I was surprised Sootch did not mention is that if the three, the Rock Island .22 TCM is the only one that is really reloadable at home. The .22 WMR is a rimfire. There is a way to reload it, but most people don't know that method exists and the tool is not available except by ordering from a custom precision machine shop. The 5.7 FN operates at 50,000 p.s.i. and requires staked primers; that has to be done at the manufacturer and cannot be redone. The .22 TCM brass can be made, usually _is_ made, by necking down.223 Remington /5.56 brass. Bullets for it are easily available because it uses bullets intended for old varmint and small game cartridges of similar velocity, like the .218 Bee, Super Bee, and .221 Remington Fireball.
Second point, while only Rock Island Armory makes factory pistols for the .22 TSM, they sell conversions for existing 1911 owners. There are barrel makers like Lake City that make custom barrels for other .45's, like Glock and Springfield XD-M.
Also, there is a version of the .22 TCM, .22 TCM v.2, that fits in 9mm Luger magazines. Custom barrels for that are widely available for every common 9mm handgun. The difference is that with the shorter case and shorter overall length, it cannot load heavier 45- and 50-grain bullets like the full size, and it has a little bit less powder capacity so its velocity matches the 5.7 FN so those two are equal in performance.

*That's why it uses 9mm Luger brass. Anyone with a reloading press can neck fired 9mm brass down to make .22 TCM cases.* There's even a .22 TCM v.2 that is limited to 9mm Luger length--you could think of it as a 7.65 Luger necked down to 5.56--and custom barrels for that are widely available for a little more than $100. So if you already have a Glock, or an XD, or a S&W, firing 9mm and want to try .22 TCM, it's easy; buy a Lyman Hand Press and the case dies, a priming tool, and a powder scale, and you're set to begin for about $150 even if you've never reloaded before!
R.I.A. sells the dies, I think they're made by RCBS.
*Keep in mind, the .22 TCM and .22 TCM v.2 can be formed by the same dies, but the v.2 uses a shorter case and shorter overall length limiting it to 40-grain bullets and less powder. It's equal to the 5.7 FN, instead of the higher velocity you see in this video.*

Was in my lgs this week and it was sitting out with the shotgun shells and not behind the counter with everything else. Had it in 50 and 100rd boxes, but it's like 50cent a shot so..

I would like to see 22 TCM in a PCC format with a 7-10" barrel. That fireball tells me there is a good bit of unburned powder being expelled and flashed off, which means there is room for velocity improvements with added barrel length. Wouldn't be surprised if it picked up 200-400 more FPS. All that being said, 5.7x28 may be gaining in popularity, but the cost of ammo isn't reflecting that. And it's not very good for defensive purposes. The reason it's used it in combat is for P90 platforms where sustained, controlled full auto use can put a lot of rounds on target quickly. And the NATO ammo, which isn't available on the civilian market, is hotter with penetrator tips. Which makes me write off 5.7 completely.

If you already have a 1911, Rock Island Armory sells a .22 TCM conversion kit.
If you have a Glock, Smith & Wesson, or Springfield XD, there are custom barrel makers like Lake City that sell conversion barrels. Make sure you know if you are buying a barrel for .22 TCM or for .22 TCM v.2 because the first is for .45 A.C.P. frames and the second is for 9mm Luger pistols!
.22 TCM v.2 matches the 5.7 FN performance with the same bullet weights, at lower pressure. The original .22 TCM is significantly more powerful, intended to match the Chinese PLA 5.8×22 military pistol cartridge. Created for the Philippines Navy and Coast Guard, who get shot at by the Chinese military on the daily. [O.K., not on the daily _lately,_ but when the TCM was designed. Then again, it may still be happening since Duarte was succeeded by Marcos, Jr. and I'm just out of the loop.]
Also . . . forgive the cut-and-paste from a different comment reply: Something I was surprised Sootch did not mention is that if the three, the Rock Island .22 TCM is the only one that is really reloadable at home. The .22 WMR is a rimfire. There is a way to reload it, but most people don't know that method exists and the tool is not available except by ordering from a custom precision machine shop. There are multiple bullet weights and manufacturers for each cartridge, however for this example we will compare the CCI Mini-Mag plated round nose for 22 LR and CCI Maxi-Mag jacketed hollow point (JHP) for 22 WMR, both firing a 40-grain bullet.
For its size, the 22 LR has a very respectable muzzle velocity of 1,235 fps, however it simply cannot keep up with the larger and higher velocity 22 Magnum at 1,875 fps.

I like all of those round, but prefer my 22 TCM for the option of the bolt action. It's ballistically similar to the 22 hornet out of the bolt action, and after I had my barrel free floated, I can get sub moa if I do my job...the trigger holds it back a bit, will likely try to lighten it up a bit.

They were inspired by Max Brooks' (son of Mel Brooks) book world war z and he shot it against a standard Armilite chambered in .556 against "zombies" and he chose the ".22 P90" for ease of use, no recoil, handling and-as you alluded to-ease of carrying a ton of ammo and it's availability. It was .22lr, but I think this still fits.
I always associate the 5.7x28 with playing the first Splinter Cell on Nintendo GameCube because the FN FiveseveN was Sam Fisher's gun! Happy Easter.

This review ought to be good, I’m at the video’s start still. 22 magnum was really unworthy in my country, because there were few models that used it, and all the ammo was imported. Sadly, I was interested in it. Early this year, because of the newly elected Gungrabbist in chief, people just stopped giving a damn to this caliber, and it seems like it vanished from the market (plus imports were suspended iirc). Then they started manufacturing the 22mag nationally, now it’s a thing again and I’m very interested 😂
    Ok let’s watch the video

  • @AndyViant
    @AndyViant 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

22 mag was the only one without a hollow point, given the lead soft point on the 22 tcm and the nylon tip on the 5.7.
Given the range of ammo available for the 22 mag something more suitable for defence would give a much better wound channel and higher velocity. The extra shards from the 22 mag could potentially do extra damage, but less hydrostatic shock.
It's great to see more 5.7 coming on to the market and I hope they come back into fashion for bolt action varmint rifles.

Are you limp-wristing your pistol? That causes the grip safety to interfere and jam all the time, except with light-weight .45's like the aluminum-frame Officer's Model. I'm the only person I know that cannot get through five rounds from a Ruger Mark II without a jam, too!
