When changing the oil, I like to pour new oil in the bay and rinse out the old oil maybe a half a quart or so. Like flushing out the blackish old out.
Oh that's new, never considered that. You might be on to something (though some people may call it a waste)
Real helpful with the instructions.
Thank you.
Glad it helped!
Great video.. I didn't know about the washers. But super cool tip, when changing oil filters, use a ziploc bag and it'll catch any oil that comes out. You'll have little to zero clean up!
That's a great idea! My catch pan is super roomy so it's always an easy job, but I'd love to see the method you do!
@@Striker50_ yea I always do it now. I have a regular sized pan so you can have some splashes or wind blowing.
I would like to see this done as well. I am intrigued.
Thanks for the video. Very thorough and explained well.
Thank you for the praise Jim! Learning as I go, so content & knowledge wasn't to the best at the date of recording 🙏
Nice video. I change mine at 5000 miles. 2019 Accord Sport 1.5 turbo. East Tennessee Honda fan 👍🏾
Thanks! What color is yours?
@@Striker50_ it’s called Still
Night Pearl. The purple blue color 👍🏾
I have a short video with a pic of my 2019 Accord Sport 👍🏾
@@seejean1325what oil do you use for it? (Brand)
U explained really well dear. Awesome job
Awesome! hope this was useful for you! I tried to make my other Accord videos as easy as this to understand as well
Thanks for showing me how to change my oil and the things I’ll need to get the job done.
Glad I could help Rodolfo!
Being clean and organized makes this so easy and enjoyable to do!
I have other Accord videos also if you haven't seen those already 👍
Keep saving money 💰!
@@Striker50_ how much you save ? I usually pay about 80$ a oil change
@@Remorsefullyhumble Yikes!
Probably like $28 with oil and filter and crush washer
And it takes me 15 minutes, I don't need to be waiting hours at a dealer or something
@@Striker50_ I’m going to start changing my own 😂😅 my job has a lift and everything I need luckily
@@Striker50_ facts I’ve been getting tired of wait times
Great video my friend! Appreciate it! Ill be changing the oil in my 2019 Sport for the first time myself cuz i refuse to pay 100 dollars for an oil change!
Here to help! Geez $100?? Ludacris prices.
Oil, Parts & filter are like $25
@Striker50_ yeah people have lost their minds! Lol
😂 in Miami is $135 😮
Easier than I thought thank you for the video
Nice Eric glad it served you well 👍
Lol u just saved me so many trips and waiting lines
Glad to hear that! Yeah some places I was waiting 4-6 hours it was ridiculous
Great video quality👍👍
Thank you very much! I keep trying to improve 📸
. In the last decade I started to go to fast oil change places since it used to be reasonable price. Now that I decided to change my own oil again this video was helpful in making sure there would be no surprises. Video was great. Lots of details and great clarity.
FYI If you have this 1.5 turbo engine, you most likely have the "oil dilution problem" which means that about 1/2 of a quart or more of GAS has mixed into your old oil. You can confirm this by checking the dipstick. It will be over the full mark and smell like gas. Mine would cover the whole red plastic part of the dipstick! That said, if you add new engine oil up to the full mark, it will later travel past that mark by at least an inch. This could create extra pressure in your engine. Because of this, I started to put new oil up to half way between the midway mark and the full mark. This will allow some extra room for the oil/gas to expand so that it does not go past the full mark once you drive a few miles. Also, I started using 5-30w Mobil 1 oil. I am hoping this might help since the thicker oil has worked for some folks in helping to keep the gas from getting into the oil. I have about 32K mi on my 2020 sport 1.5t, but problem likely started when car was brand new! I just did not notice it then because it was a lease car at the time and I ASSumed my oil level was fine since the car was new. I would take to the dealer to change oil every 8k miles without checking the dipstick. Now, since I discovered the oil dilution problem, and I now own the car, I will be changing oil myself every 3k or 4k miles. Love the car, but not sure if I want to chance owning it when the fit hits the shan. Hopefully thicker oil helps.
Thanks for sharing! And yes fast places charge so much now
Do you live in a cold area?
Not sure I’d use thicker oil considering that the turbo uses the same oil..
@@mootsym Yup, personally best to stick with what's recommended
Thank you for this video ! 💯 / 💯
Anytime 👌 save that 💰💰💰
See if my other vids on this car are helpful for you as well
Nice.....thanks .....great presentation.
Thanks! Looking to improve each day
Remember to turn ur car on before u stop adding oil. Let it run for a couple of seconds that way the motor actually gets a taste of the oil. Than add a little more thay way its filled. Idk something my father in law always tells me lol. But I appreciate the vid.
I do it a little different; I'll add the manufacturer amount, let it run for 2-3 minutes, then check and top it off accordingly if it's still low
Different route to the same task 👍
How’s the car holding up? How many miles do you have currently? Any failures such as head gasket or injectors?
Car is running smooth as can be! I just cleaned the injectors on my other Accord and adjusted the valves
Love the video quick to the point btw can you send me the link to the music
Thanks! Oof I don't remember which song it is it's been a while
The 23 Accord has a cover across the whole bottom of the car that has to be removed to access the drain plug and filter.
Thanks for sharing; same engine thankfully so same process
I have 18.5k miles on my 1.5t and i see oil marks seeping through my valve cover. You having the same issue?
Not on this Accord thankfully but my 2013 definitely needs a new valve cover gasket
Make sure not to overfill the oil be ause it can create more pressure
Because it’s a turbo engine I would probably change the oil at around 4500 or 4800 miles and I wouldn’t use that super thin oil unless you live somewhere The daytime high in the summer is in the 70s maybe but if you live in a state that it gets in the high 90s or you live in the desert, I would think 5W 30 would be a lot better choice and your turbo charger valve train camshaft and crankshaft would be a lot happier and last a lot longer And I can’t say whether the 20,000 mile oil from Supertek is any good or the Kirkland brand oil I can only base that what I’ve seen in the videos online
I'm impressed with the oil ratings on the KS and supertech, but I personally would not wait 20k to do the changes even if it's rated for that. different oils could be used depending on the region. Here in LA weather is pretty nice so I personally stick to oem standards
For the 1.5t engine, how often do you do an oil change. Do you go by the maintenance minder? I was told to ignore the maintenance minder and do it every 5k miles because of oil dilution?
Hey there thanks for watching first and foremost 👍 On this Accord I go by maintenance minder since 95% of driving is highway so it's not stressful on the engine.
5k or "15% oil life remaining" is a decent interval to go by. From what I was understanding with the 1.5T is that a lot of the dilution was happening in cold regions. If you're not driving it too hard, aim for 15% oil life, that way it gives you some wiggle room to do the service. Also, keep in mind if you don't plan on keeping this car for over 100k miles, you should be fine if you're not on top of all the services
@@Striker50_ man im way over that im 7k over its highway miles
@@keythedream646 Lmao so you're like 12,000mi in???
Make sure to be on it; this oil is thinner so you don't want to neglect it too much because it can turn into a $3.5-$5k bill
@@Striker50_ i kinda topped it with a bottle two weeks ago😭 I barely drove but ima follow your oil change steps…
@@keythedream646 Oh dang if you're burning oil already that's no good either. It's the little steps that avoid the huge headache down the road trust it's better to learn from someone else's mistake
2:25 the drain plug is Righty-tighty... Lefty-loosey right?? It didn't show how it was turned. Thanks!
Yea 2:36 You can see me turning it lefty loosey
I usually can't show cracking the drain bolt open since I need both hands but I always show turning it with my hand when I crack it open
@@Striker50_ Just did MY very first oil change 😁(3rd oil change of the car). Thank you, this vid helped a lot!!
@@mark1nyc Nice! Save that $$$! How did you feel doing it
@@Striker50_ It was awesome!! I also found out the dealership who did the last oil change had put the crush washer backwards 😠left a mark on the aluminum side of the washer. Also glad that I will do frequent oil changes now cheaply to avoid wear on that oil dilution problem with this engine.
@@mark1nyc The more you do it, the quicker you'll be! That's what got me into making reviews- the dealership would take 4-6 hour for oil changes which wasted way too much time. Now I could crank it out in literally 15 minutes start to finish
I live in hot city in the summer almost 47c so what is the best oil change for my Accord ?? Is 20w50 suitable?
I would recommend talking to your local Honda department. I've lived where the weather gets that hot (Palm Springs and Merced) and the car always behaved perfectly
What kind of ramps are you using
Race Ramps, best purchase I've ever made 🙌
I forgot the exact model they are but they're about $130
Is it okay if i used 0w30 insted? Because my environment is realy hot
Consider researching if it's better to use that oil with turbo engines.
My personal opinion I don't know how beneficial it is to change the oil type and then you might also have to do a full flush so the different oils don't mix if you were to do that
The oil Kirkland is a good oil?
Yeah it's rated legit and has great reviews. Look it up on TH-cam
I went to an auto shop and they put in 4.8 qts of oil in saying they followed what they saw on the dip stick...should i be worried? 2021 honda accord 1.5t
You can always check your dipstick after driving around for 10 minutes or more that will let you know if they overfilled
It was overfilled after parking...they said by 1qts....so now they have to drain it and fill it again 😒...they however gave me a free bottle of oil back for the mishap..
Call them out on it and ask for a refund. They could have damaged your engine, and worst of all a shop should not be guessing. They have manuals and sites mechanics use to confirm how much to put. They could also check your owners manual. Sounds pretty unprofessional to me@@di_real_stinga1075
Would it have been damaged in that short time though? Probably was like that for 90 minutes the most...driven for 12 minutes out of that 90 minutes
I agree it is unprofessional..especially when I asked them before leaving the first time
What oil do you guys recommend for me to use on my 2022 Honda accord sport with 12k miles
Ow-20 is the way to go 👍 I like to follow what the engineers tested the engine with
@@Striker50_ thanks. How many quarts does the 1.5 take ?
@@Boostednnbs 3.7 Quarts
hows the oil dilution on this car?
Nothing that can be noticed as of now since miles aren't that high. I also heard the oil dilution on the 1.5T was mostly happening in really cold climates; I'm in Southern California
👍 cuz 75 bucks is to much for an oil change
Exactly! I used to get a $50 Corporate discount at Pep Boys for synthetic, but I had to wait 4-6 hours WITH an appointment 💀

Can we do Engine flush for honda 1.5t ?
I am sure it's possible, but not sure it's necessary
U don’t have the wholes for ur front plate or ur covered them
This one never had a front license plate installed; I made a video on how to install the front bracket 🤙
What ramps are you using?
Race Ramps 👍 Best investment I've made for my car to date. I believe these are the RR 40"
Plastic ones are cheaper but I've seen stories where they crack on people so I'm not gonna risk that
After seeing all the sketchy reviews of plastic ramps collapsing, there was no way I was going to risk being under my car with that chance; and these things are insanely light compared to the old steel ones I would use
Not personal but since I work on my cars (change oil.) I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty ... oil in my hands. Gloves are for girly hands ..
LOL
I would probably start it up and let it idle for like one minute to make sure there’s no leaks and yes I would make Honda cry by putting 5W 30 in it and maybe a zero30 in the winter if I live somewhere cold or that it was cold year-round And the high 60s was the summer then I could see using 0W 30 all the time
Yup weather plays a huge factor in it as well
Ditch the K&N air filter. They filter like shit and do very little for power. Gimmick at its best. The air filter is more important for your oil than the oil filter. Run a stock Honda air filter; they’re oiled from factory
Thanks for sharing! I've had a great experience with K&N in vehicles and ATVs, but can see the concerns you raise
That costco oil will destroy that engine
The oil is API SN plus certified, so I'm not sure what you're saying
Provide some sources backing your statement; I'll be glad to look into them 👍
Wrong. Been using on all my vehicles and it works fine.
