@@rielhsliso8363 I think she should get the death penalty for taking matters into her own hands if the legal system is actually doing their job and is to be trusted in serving justice. So considering how many predators get away with only the bare minimum if anything, her actions Don't deserve the death penalty. Though I do think she should serve time in jail.
I looked at that a little different. Those 2 guys he hugged were the ones that said their mothers shouldnt be exempt of the death penalty. The Afro Dude came at them afterwards saying he was shocked and that was the problem with society. Then at the end, he hugged them both and said "How is your mother?". 1.) Private school vs. public school (teachers, parents, or a mix on both sides) 2.) Homeschool vs. public school (“alumni” or teachers) 3.) Religion vs. LGBT+ (a mix of religions)
I feel like religious people and lgbt people aren’t always on “opposing ends” of the spectrum, so I’m not sure how they could make a video in this format about that
Yes that’s why they are executed. To put an end to their heinous crimes. I believe our justice system needs work and the death penalty can’t be thrown around. Innocent people of course should not be executed and there needs to be a way to fix that. But I believe the death penalty is reserved for those who have committed horrible acts of terror and who have the complete disregard for human life. Ted Bundy escaped from prison twice and each time he escaped, he raped and murdered more women. That’s why the death penalty exists and that’s why he was executed. I would be for the death penalty if there was a definite way to prove people on death row as guilty. A study came out that showed 4% of them were innocent, that’s overwhelming to me.
That study includes people that were convicted decades ago. Show me the study of people that were convicted recently. You know. Now that we have DNA evidence. That’s the only reason we even know about that 4%. Which means it’s nowhere near 4% today. Now, it takes a lot to be put to death. And we already have like 20 years worth of appeals before they die.
Only one problem with the study... how tf do you calculate that? Detectives are detectives for a reason. I doubt a random scientist could do detective work better. There are some cases where it's clear that the wrong person was executed but that's a small number. The other 95%+ is unknown
@@anonymousperson3023 What a smart idea. Im sure the researchers didnt know about that. im guessing you think the person who did the research pulled the numbers out of their ass, huh?

In my opinion, the only thing worse than death is torture. Most people deserving of the death penalty are already past the point of remorse, so making them think about their crimes won't do anything. Bottom line for me is, at least they get to live. Their victims don't.
Wtf with that 4 year old comment? You’re trying to equate the actions of a 4 year old breaking an object to a grown adult murdering/torturing/raping etc.
It’s a example for people to express their foundation of morality. Is it better to punish or to bring understanding? Should you do both? I will say that it’s a bad example in a wildly different context, but it opens up a discussion in morality and it’s intrinsic lack of actual tangibility outside of our human perception. What she did, however, was kinda like bringing up a simple addition problem in a discussion about theoretical mathematics. Idk 🤷♀️
@Chirag Patel I dont know about that, you can really mean that everyone deserves a second chance. That means something drastically different philosophically from some people deserve a second chance and nobody deserves a second chance.
Later on a statement said "Anyone can forgive anyone given enough time" so the same guy came up and when he was asked if he could forgive someone who murdered his mother he said "no".
Statistically, increasing the severity of the punishment up to the death penalty has VERY little effect on crime rates. People don't commit crimes with the expectation of getting caught. Pickpocketing used to have a sentence of hanging. And other pickpockets would go to the crowds of people watching someone get hanged for picking pockets, and pick their pockets. Lots of people were gathered in a small area, lots of bumping into each other and everyone was distracted. Easy opportunity to pick pockets. Didn't matter what the punishment was. If you want to reduce crime, you need to convince people that getting caught is LIKELY, not that is carries great sentences.
@@slayer2608 Saudia Arabia has crime. It's on the low side, but you can't assume that's because of harsh sentencing. Norway's Crime rate is significantly lower than Saudi Arabia's and capital punishment was abolished decades ago. @@rens3286 An eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind. If someone does something it's just going to cause a chain reaction of someone else going to go get back at that person. I don't disagree with the death penalty personally, but we really should put more consideration into the circumstances of what happened and why it happened. Some people are just cold blooded killers, some people however commit a murder once (I say murder because it's still a murder no matter the circumstances), and would never do it again. Say for instance the woman that set the man on fire for what happened to her daughter. I don't think she should get the death penalty. Life in prison? Maybe. Life in prison with a CHANCE to eventually go free on a supervised parole? Absolutely. I also think however she should have gone to the cops and that the guy deserved to go through the due process of the law. I feel like he should have got the death penalty, but that's up to the courts. Two wrongs don't make a right but my whole point in stating this is there are most of the time circumstances where bad stuff happens to family or children and during a fit of rage someone acts out. I think the death penalty should be a last ditch effort or saved for the most heinous crimes. I'm a bigger fan of life in prison for most of the people. But someone that say murders an entire family in my opinion does deserve the death penalty.
Official Barack Hussein Obama II his argument is not derived from a delusional stand point of everyone being a good person, but more so the rehabilitation for criminals and opportunities. There’s a very thin line between punishment and rehabilitation in this country. The Probations and parole systems are terrible considering the fact that most of them don’t care about you. Most parole officers see between 100-150 people a week! Imagine that and on top of that, paper work for each person in a 40 hour week schedule...It’s a very interesting way in how The system operates. Statistically speaking most people that go to jail are very likely to just end up right back in because of the lack of resource and crappy rehab system. I love that guy’s optimism, and don’t confuse optimism with delusion, a lot of people have that huge misconception :)

Honestly, that situation is amazing, because it exposes hypocritical thinking on either side. Just suppose that a guy killed a victim, and then the girl killed the guy. Should the girl be killed? PRO DEATH PENALTY: The woman should be killed, but this suggests that the guy shouldn't have been killed which is inconsistent with these ideals. ANTI-DEATH PENALTY: The woman shouldn't be killed, but then this suggests that the guy should have been killed which is inconsistent with these ideals. My thoughts on this are shaky and not as concrete as they should be (as this is a new concept for me), but I just needed to write this down to help me think about it a bit more.
@Willy Wonka well, it’s only hypocritical thinking if you assume that the reasoning for wanting the death penalty or not is based solely on the moral stance one takes on the woman’s actions. So, for example, the pro-death penalty one. You say it exposes hypocrisy on the pro-death penalty side if they want the woman to be executed because it suggests that what the woman did (killing her husband) was wrong, which is hypocritical since they believe in the government killing people who commit crimes. But, someone who is pro death penalty might tell you that they don’t necessarily believe that the outcome of the husband dying is wrong, and on a personal level they might even agree that it was global justice. But they would say that it’s wrong and bad for society that the _wife_ is the one that killed him and broke the law in doing so. They’re argument would be on a legal basis, centering around deterrence, and not on whether they personally support what she did on an emotional level.
@@kk8490 Thank you for your response as it helps me when thinking about this topic. However, basing a decision solely on legality is basing the decision on what someone else has decided because what is legal has been decided by someone else. Therefore, the person who made the laws the way they are was basing it off of what they think morally and therefore is hypocritical.
@Willy Wonka true, it is basically kicking the ball down the road, but I suppose most things are like that. The government punished people who kidnap people by kidnapping them and throwing them in a jail cell, stealing is wrong but the state can and does forcibly take money from you come tax season. A lot of government action can come across as hypocritical, but they can do things citizens can’t because as a society we vest power to our governments and allow them to have a monopoly on these actions. I think that’s called the social contract but I’m not 100% sure. A pro death penalty person would just argue to extend it to include state sanctioned execution. But I agree it’s a weak argument, and I find most pro death penalty arguments unpersuasive. I’m really glad I live in a country that doesn’t have it lol.

What the lady in the black said finally hit me. I was thinking she was advocating for no death penalty because the woman killed her husband and it was deserved, but then I realized she was trying to make a point that if she doesn't have the right to kill a horrible sick human being that shouldn't be a part of society, then neither do we. We as a people commit murder with the death penalty. Some may think it's justice, but it is still murder.
I do agree that she should be able to take it into her own hands if we as a society can all make a decision to have a death penalty and murdering killers and rapist is way better than caring for them and letting them live weather it’s out side jail or in prison for their lives it’s not with it. I wouldn’t wanna feed someone who murdered someone I care about
It is so interesting to talk about the concept of forgiveness. I have talked to someone who has experienced horrific traumatic things during WWII (Jewish). They have told me, that in order to live a happy, complete life, they at some point had to "get rid of the anger and forgive". It was not about the people commiting the crime, but about selflove and "moving on", retaking the power over your own life and not be a "slave" to someone elses choices. I have no idea how I would deal with such trauma, but it was so very inspiring.
I've dealing with the same thing. I had so much hate towards a person , but after a point I want to move on. The problem was that I was feeling, that by forgiven him, it was like a favor towards him. Until I uderstand that forgiveness is something you do for yourself in order to move on and not be stuck in the past and all the bad felling that came with the past. When I try to explain this to other people they don't get it at all, so I am happy there are out there people that uderstand this concept of forgiveness. (sorry for bad English)
Forgiving is very difficult and is not always something you're able to do but actively hating someone (or being afraid of someone that's still out there) is exhausting. So, if forgiveness means to stop actively making hating-them a part of your day, then yes.
I'll be honest. You do not have to forgive a person who has wronged you. You can forget what they did, become indifferent towards them but you definitely do not have to forgive them.

“Would I want a second chance” you can want one and not deserve it. There’s a large difference between stealing candy and killing someone. What will you do if you killed someone and got a second chance? Kiss the grave?
I personally would rather have some suffer and remain in jail for the rest of their life for their heinous crimes than die. I feel like that’s a worst punishment than the latter.
@@ezradavid9089 I am in a half way point to what he says. I think that not giving killers a second chance is a bit too broad. Because what if it was in self defense from someone who tried to murder you? That's a different case from cold blooded murder that was pre-planned. And its these self defense cases that I think need to be the line between the pro death penalty and anti death penalty argument, which should be heavily discussed.
In a response to the women's argument of the women killing her husband: if we let one person take justice into their own hands, that opens the door for everyone. Where do we draw the line? Justice looks different to everyone. We need to have set rules, or there is chaos.
I agree with the part that people should not be encouraged to take justice into their own hands. However, we must also acknowledge that the act of that woman is kind of justified. Not to say that she doesn't deserve any punishment but the death penalty is a bit far fetched, at least in this scenario.

I am against the death penalty for one main reason: the law is upheld by people. People make mistakes. People are biased. People lie. There are hundreds, if not thousands of PROVEN cases of someone being imprisoned, even sentenced to death, to a crime they didn’t commit. The whole point of the death penalty is to take a life for committing an absolutely heinous crime. Usually involving taking a life. The idea that one person could be (and has been) executed in the past for a crime they didn’t commit is a bigger crime than any I can imagine. The justice system permanently condemning an innocent person... that’s the worst kind of horror story.
There was a quote in the "Making a Murderer" series that really stuck with me. It was "you can always guarantee that you won't commit a crime, but you can never guarantee that you won't be accused of one." Gives me chills!

He would be the first person to be a victim of a heinous crime. Having too much faith in humanity is not a good thing. People too often forget we are still animals.
I'm not, because that argument is essentially meaningless; the idea that citizens "give the state power" is nothing but a self-comforting illusion; the basic fact is that whatever organized body wields the military might to hold the final veto on policy making and to ultimately enforce its dictates is, by definition, 'The State'; if you don't have such a body, you have anarchy (not a state) and if you do have one, then that body has as much power (at least with respect to the treatment of its citizens) as its operatives choose to apply, regardless of how the populace feels about it; even if you could organize a popular revolt to overthrow the current state (which likely wouldn't even be possible as long as the military still follows orders), the armed revolutionary guard would simply become a successor state, and would be similarly unanswerable until a superior military came to supplant them.

The thing I can never understand is this: we agree that taking someone’s life is wrong, and should be punished. But the punishment is literally to take that person’s life? That seems so hypocritical and counterproductive. It’s only okay to take a life if they took someone else’s first? The only argument needed to be against the death penalty: you can free the wrongly accused, but you can’t bring the executed back from the dead.
People who can’t play by the rules regarding human life must not be allowed to live amongst us
@@kieranmooney3453 and there are many people who have been wrongly executed. I’ll never be ok with killing innocents. Especially when the justice system is so incompetent. There will never be a world where there are no wrongful convictions. But I do understand where you are coming from.

I agree but we can’t just have monster locked in a box forever living off our tax. Why should i pay for a child abuser to live , we need more options
Yep in retrospect that’s way too high.
I looked it up and only 18 people have died. And that’s mostly due to them outliving the waiting line for death row
The death penalty would only work if people who were on death row were 100% guilty. But our world isn’t perfect, and people do get falsely incriminated all the time.
I would say the death penalty should only be for people who confessed to their crime.

L, You should just lock Light up. If you want Moral High Ground against Light/Kira.

Oh yea Yea Someone told me that once too, unfortunately it’s easier said than done.
Official Barack Hussein Obama II his argument is not derived from a delusional stand point of everyone being a good person, but more so the rehabilitation for criminals and opportunities. Most parole officers see between 100-150 people a week! Imagine that and on top of that, paper work for each person in a 40 hour week schedule...It’s a very interesting way in how
The system operates. Statistically speaking most people that go to jail are very likely to just end up right back in because of the lack of resource and crappy rehab system. I love that guy’s optimism, and don’t confuse optimism with delusion, a lot of people have that huge misconception :)

also girl: I'm anti-death penalty

Cameron that's the gray issue. What the women did was vigilante(ism?).
When and where aren't we able to put the law into our own lives.
she wasn't that smart
I do agree that she should be able to take it into her own hands if we as a society can all make a decision to have a death penalty and murdering killers and rapist is way better than caring for them and letting them live weather it’s out side jail or in prison for their lives it’s not with it. I wouldn’t wanna feed someone who murdered someone I care about
She basically made an argument against laws then
@@vividrainbowsparks1104 she made an argument against a specific law.
That is a fallacy I have not always forgiven people for harm they might have done to me and yet I live a perfectly happy life.

That's a different case from cold blooded murder that was pre-planned. And its these self defense cases that I think need to be the line between the pro death penalty and anti death penalty argument, which should be heavily discussed.
This one is easilyyy my fav Jubilee debate. Clever, factual and intriguing. Very civilized too.
In a response to the women's argument of the women killing her husband: if we let one person take justice into their own hands, that opens the door for everyone. Where do we draw the line? Justice looks different to everyone. We need to have set rules, or there is chaos.
Yeah, the problem is the example she brought up is basically a woman doing her own death penalty
I would have done the same thing, I think I'm a very moral overall "good" human being. I think you would have to have that happen to you
I agree with the part that people should not be encouraged to take justice into their own hands. However, we must also acknowledge that the act of that woman is kind of justified. Not to say that she doesn't deserve any punishment but the death penalty is a bit far fetched, at least in this scenario.
Exactly , imagine her mother in law was devastated and went and killed her then the father of the wife came and killed her husband's mother .. it would be a loop hole that would only end if everyone is killed

leonard u Colin Kaepernick did not kneel for the flag to show disrespect, as he has stated he meant no harm and has family and friends in the military.

I'm surprised not one of the anti-capital punishment people mentioned the issue of giving the state that much power

I believe all life has inherent value, and yes, it’s terrible that people murder each other. They should be punished. But the way to punish murder is not to continue murdering people.
I mean if they killed people for no reason but enjoyment like Ted Bundy they lost their lives how is it far he gets the gift of staying alive
@@a.j.c3365 In that case the punishment must be something like a life sentence. Thoses people would have to suffer all their life in prison, and to me that is an even worst punishment than a death penalty.
