In 1977, when Joy Division were Warsaw they were running on the Punk Invasion hype going on through the UK, especially Manchester. The reference to Hess was similar to the Sex Pistols where shirts with Swastikas on. It was just a 'punk' thing to do. Thats what Barney said in an interview anyway.
Ian Curtis a very gifted singer and performer. I have never heard this very a great song. You can truly hear Ian Curtis full of energy hear and his joy in singing this song. Ian Curtis before his devastating life changing illness with epilipsy seizures and all those meds he was put on. We lost a very special young man and gifted singer that early Sunday morning between 4:am and 4:30am when Ian Curtis hung himself. The worst thing for him was being alone that morning he became very scared and couldn't see going forward. He felt he was letting everyone down around him.
It's so sad. I also think he had issues with his wife. He loved anik because it was more than a sexual relationship and I think in a few of his songs he talks about the pleasures of a normal man he cant feel...the meds he was on left him with ed and as a young man that affected him alot. His wife wanted that but anik didnt and he felt conflicted. Bless him. It breaks my heart the amount of pain he was in...
i've had this 10" EP (33 1/3rpm) for years-Buzzcocks,The Fall,John Cooper Clarke,The Drones,Steel Pulse and Joy Division...Called Short Circuit-Live at the Electric Circus-Looking forward to seeing Hooky and Friends down here in Oz September......R.I.P Ian

Thanks a lot, and you are absolutely right when you said that Joy Division is timeless, i think it's because they are so damn back to basis, primitive sound and primitive lyrics, no need for glitter and glamour to prove themselves
for a real visceral experience try to find the complete WARSAW LP, with the bonus demo 7" EP. Very rare, but something that will live inside you forever
This is from the "Live at Electric Circus" 10" LP. It's the first time they played under the name Joy Division.. Before that, they called themselves Warsaw (after David Bowie's song on "LOW"; from the start they called themselves "Stiff Kitten"..
How do you know that their name "Warsaw" comes from the Bowie song and not directly from the name of the Polish capital? Since they sang a lot about WW2 it makes much more sense to me. But than again, it may be both...
The best line "good things in life are free, thats true, only one thing wrong with that, what I don buy I don use" AMAZING!!! read the lyrics on Google they TOO FUCKIN GOOD!!!
It's rare because it's taken from the Live at The Electric Circus EP (and thats vinyl for all you youngsters out there!) , they never made that many hence it's very rare
This song available on 10" vinyl album live at Electric Circus. Only song under still name Warsaw but was released in June of the following year under band new name Joy Division that changed January of 1978. I found this album used but pristiane condition. Looking forward to this rare and excellent song with Ian and the band ar their best in early days. Highly recommend.
Wny wasn't this on 'Heart and Soul'? OK, it's not representative of what we know as the JD sound but fascinating none the less. It's great to hear bands in their infancy. I wonder if the tape still exists from the gig. Maybe there are few more tracks on there too.
rudolph hess is from any perspective a total hero. He dived solo from a plane to Britain to try and make peace, where he was promptly arrested and spent the rest of his life in prison (where guards would not even call him by his name) and where he was subsequently strangled to death

Based. Funny how Barnie later said they 'accidentally' called their band New Order. Clearly, they knew and were woke but just chose to hide their power level.
Note on the Electric Circus album they are called Joy Division not Warsaw it was a misprint. I like Warsaw its so raw and Ian's Johnny Rotten style Vocals own
Yeah. Peter Hook says, in Unknown Pleasures that it could be because they had just performed Warsaw in which they repeat his cell number 31G 350125, but it may not be since he can't remember if they had even written Warsaw at that time.
damn yes, a long time ago, but it didn't lose his power and originality By the way, you have some real relaxing music in your channel, is it made by you?? Sounds pretty good to me
And peter and Bernard did admit they were intrigued but fascism. But they were not neo Nazi, they wanted to keep the memories of their grandparents suffrage alive during WWI I believe.
totaly agree, but live they ussualy sounded much better, back in those days, but the 'No love lost' from the same demo is awesome (other then the one on the box set) Think I upload it soon

I fucking love early Joy Division!! This song and The Drawback are becoming one of my favorites.
Indeed! Just saw Hooky last week and he played this song. Brilliant!!
He played it? No way, I'm jealous! I saw him 2 weeks ago in Ferndale, MI @ The Magic Bag. Mostly New Order but it was amazing.
He also played my favorite JD song "New Dawn Fades" I couldn't believe my luck,as he changes the set list for every concert.
The intro to New Dawn Fades is always the best. I was hoping for Interzone or Disorder.
Aand they looking for uuu
Raw, amazing, hype. If someone performed this as it sounds today it would tear the roof off whatever venue they were in.

Hardly the same. Pistols iconography also had Karl Marx. New Order is a giveaway
And it is a good one

Wow. This was Ian Curtis in 1977 huh?
Ah back when you could use nazi's contextually and people didn't lose their stupid minds
The good old days, the lost days of sanity.
What a bizarre thing to have nostalgia for
"Contextually"? Great song but Curtis was a fuckin' Nazi. Name of the band. And New Order. Duh.
