  • We continue our trip with a stop-over in Ft Lauderdale for provisioning and then cross the Gulf Stream to Bimini. The weather holds us up for a few days so we enjoy the bar seen in Ft Lauderdale, explore River Walk and Ed finally gets a haircut!

    it's an idyllic life . I went to see a 1985 Hatteras 54 in Ramsgate marina in the UK last week . What a great boat and rare as hens teeth here . So much space on it ! I can see why you chose one . Safe travels

      The 54s are very nice. We almost bought one. At the time I was afraid of the size. Now I wouldn't think twice.

    I'm always trying to figure out why people oversteer. I guess no one ever showed them how-to. Steering isn't like threading a needle. It's like throwing a pencil down a manhole while walking. Inertia is your friend.

    0:52 This used to be my home, off and on. Or, where we kept Gold Star. My Flemish friend lived here on his yawl for many years, decades! I've never seen that public dock, that's very nice! Ooh, a new lift bridge! Gotta be heavy duty to carry all the swelled heads over to that resort.
    When I went over in '77 with Robert we crossed from WPB to West End at night, so that we would see the radio antenna in the morning. Nothing but dead reckoning available on the sailboat.

    • @tryingnottosink9107
      @tryingnottosink9107  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad we do not have to deal with dead reckoning. GPS has made travel in unknown areas so much easier.

    • @rideswithscissors
      @rideswithscissors 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tryingnottosink9107 I did use a radio direction finder while crossing the Gulf Stream from West End on the motor yacht. Didn't work well on the "D" cells, so I substituted a 9V. Nice strong signal! Using that and making corrections I beat a faster boat to the inlet, his 12 knots to our 10. The skipper was real official on the radio, "Roger out!" and all that. I saw him coming from the south as we went in and thought yeah, Roger Roger!
      I don't know where you are in real time, but I hope you are having or had a great trip. I guess we will find out!
