  • Due to some having problems with the audio this video has been re-uploaded without the background music. Time will tell which of the 2 videos will prove to be most popular - with or without the background music.
    This is a full tutorial on how to carbon fibre wrap or skin a panel on your car in REAL Carbon Fibre. In this case we wrap or skin the roof in carbon fibre.

    Can you post a list of materials? Especially the epoxy resin/hardener mix so we know what to buy and where to get it?

    Awesome job. Working with cf is a lot of work. One mistake has big consequences. Great job. I look forward to seeing more. Thanks

    That's a lot of effort to go to but the end result looks really good. Carbon is such an attractive material.

    I'd like to see some more carbon work. Particularly more outside panels, and carbon replacement panels not just skinning. I'd like to know how resin infusion would be incorporated in outside panels. my guess would be to make a mould of the body section with fiberglass of the piece you want made carbon then infuse it off of the car. I'm tossing around ideas of replacing my quarters and roof with carbon fiber panels. I like the way you sculpt things and would like to see it attempted by you. Keep up the good work.

    Question, did you lay the epoxy with the black pigment first just for the color?

    Thanks for making this video. I have never done any carbon fiber skinning but I'm about to change that. I feel confident about the flat surfaces (thankfully most the pieces are). The problem I'm facing is the complex 90 degree angles at the ends of the dash at the door. Any suggestions on how to make it look seamless?

    • @pwm24
      @pwm24 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jerry Hoover 90 degree angles are going to be near impossible without being under vacuum. Also ply thickness will determine a lot as well.

    How long do you have to wait before you can wash your car after you polish/apply clear coat ? How long does this cf maintain its appearance for?

    • @S1KRYD
      @S1KRYD  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would wait 2 weeks after a new paint job before washing your car. The carbon will maintain its appearance forever provided you use UV resistant clear coat.

    Did you use something like clear packing tape to get sharp borders lateral to the carbon fiber skin? If so, any special methods employed to remove it? Any idea how long something like this might last on a daily driver?

    How long does it take? I know wrap takes like an hour or two.

    Hi, first of all great video and great job explaining everything, looks great. I have a little bit of experience with carbon fiber. I did a very successful armrest for my car and a couple of other pieces. I'm currently working on redoing my dashboard on my car in carbon fiber. I'm using the vacuum infusion method, which I've done once before. Currently, The plan is to do the entire interior in CF. But, after that I would like to do the outside as well, (since the paint job is shot) but I'm worried about doing the side panels, etc., due to gravity pulling the resin and creating runs etc... I was thinking of doing some type of vacuum bagging for the outside and just do each panel individually of course. Any advice?

    • @S1KRYD
      @S1KRYD  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you are on the right track. If you can vacuum bag this will be good. Make sure you put down 5 or more coats of the clear resin because the bag is likely going to create creases in your work that you will need to sand out.

    Isn't it necessary to remove all air from epoxy and fiber? Just curious, because I see a lot of video where people using vacuum.

    • @S1KRYD
      @S1KRYD  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes vacuum is best. But this video is for the average person with out that gear. Heating the resin with an air gun is sufficient for this kind of work.

    Some pretty bad ass stuff my man. Wanting to have this done with my sub box. It's fiberglass but having some issues with spider cracks.
    Due to our temperature extremes in my neck of the woods. Likely was the cause of this. Would pay someone to do my box but would be a bitch to do I imagine, just saying.

    Hi will this process work on regular hood i mean metal hood if we take paint of sand it and prep it. Thanks

    • @S1KRYD
      @S1KRYD  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes this would work. But you will want to over lap the fiberglass a good distance onto the metal panel. 30cm if you can. this will give it lots of grip.

    Hi, what quantity of epoxy do you use per sq meter?

    • @S1KRYD
      @S1KRYD  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I remember correctly I used 150 grams for each coat on this stripe down the middle which would be about 3/5 of a square meter. Most of it then got sanded off. I would add more than less. Don't skimp on it or you will pay the price.

    Hey man, do you have an email that i can reach you at? I met a guy locally that does real overlays and I feel like he's ripping me off big time with the price and I wanted to get an idea on how much you think the job should cost. I'll send you pictures of what I'm looking to get overlaid. Unless you can answer it on here for me plz. I have a 2012 BMW E92 335i Coupe and I'm looking to get the REAR DIFFUSER (on the bottom of the rear bumper by the exhaust tips) overlayed. He's charging me $500 to overlay my stock one, but the aftermarket one I bought that broke was %100 Real carbon fiber that I only had $250 for from an actual well known aftermarket BMW company called JL Motoring. Plz lml what you think. Thx

    • @S1KRYD
      @S1KRYD  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +sebasupreme Your $250 one would have been made cheaply in China. If the same product was made in the US it would be 3 times the price. You are better off going back to BMW and getting a new one in carbon. But 500 to over lay seems reasonable. Or you could just do it yourself and it would only cost you 100 in materials.

    so you're spending money on carbon fibre but not really enjoying it's benefit. So you're effectively spending money to make your car heavier? Why not just use fake carbon at this point if it's only for aesthetics? Is the reason because fake carbon just looks terrible?
