Hey Kathryn & Brian! Absolutely loved this recipe and not even thought or heard of this alternative! Love how you’ve flavoured and complimented each type of lentil with ingredients, sundried tomatoes and olives! Totally tremendous work! Game changer!! Always like your tasting sessions. Keep up the great work. James

Never tried hummus made from Lentils so will have to try it. Thanks 👍 Kathryn for sharing these recipes. Love 🥰 the video and love 💗 Kathryn & ❤ Bryan.
That’s a good thought. I find the green lentil version has more texture but the red lentils definitely get really soft so perhaps that would help. Thank you for the idea!
Okay, I've tried adding the brine, and it's about what I'd expected. It doesn't completely ruin the hummus, but it certainly doesn't improve it either. 😅 It adds a slight bitter-sour aftertaste that doesn't add anything good to the flavor profile, in my opinion. Basically, I would not recommend it. I've used olive brine in some other dishes before, just because I hate pouring it out, and I pretty much always regret it. It always adds this weird aftertaste that makes me wish I'd just used water instead. My verdict is that the hummus is just a lot better without the brine.
@@Faith_Soprano aw that’s too bad. I’m sorry it didn’t work well but I appreciate your update. I hope you can still sort of enjoy this batch and then hopefully with water in your next one you’ll enjoy it more!
@@TastyThriftyTimely It's already eaten. 😅It's not terrible, I've certainly eaten worse things, but yeah, I certainly won't be making it with brine again.
I will try adding the brine. My guess though is that it won't be that good. I've added olive brine to stuff before, and it usually makes things a bit bitter and kind of weird-smelling. Might be because I buy really cheap olives though, but the brine usually has its own flavor that isn't the flavor of olives, and it's...not great. 😅
Hmm it seems like others suggest that sunflower butter is closest if you think you might like that? My first thought was that perhaps silken tofu could add some creaminess? It might be fine to even just omit it and add a bit more olive or sun-dried tomato to boost the flavour slightly. Some more seasonings might help enough too (something like cumin which has a bit of a nutty flavour). Roasted red peppers or roasted eggplant are great in dips too (the peppers are easy to find jarred at least so that could be more convenient and omitting the tahini would probably be fine because the peppers will add such nice flavour). Let me know if you try any of those and if that works better for you!
@@Christ_is_Merciful the extra flavourings in these make them really delicious. If I were to make a plain hummus though I would still make it with chickpeas. If you don’t have chickpeas though using lentils is a great alternative!
@@alittleheavenonearth for green or brown lentils I cook 1 1/2 cup dry lentils in 6 cups water and that yields 4 cups cooked lentils (but you will have to strain away excess water after the cooking time). For the red lentils you could cook 2 cups dry split red lentils in 3 cups water and that will yield 4 or more cups cooked red lentils. With any lentils though, you can use more water and just strain the excess after the lentils are cooked (5-8 min for split red lentils and 15-20 min for green or brown lentils). I hope that helps!!
@TastyThriftyTimely I made this today. For some reason I didn't find it to good for me. I had to add alot of seasons ...it's hard not to as lentils need season
@alittleheavenonearth oh interesting. Which one did you try or did you try both of them? That’s definitely what I found when I just tried to make it like my traditional hummus but once I added the olives or sun-dried tomatoes it was much better for me. Thank you for giving it a try though and hopefully after you added more seasoning it’s been better for you.
@@alittleheavenonearth ah you know what… the oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes I’ve been buying lately are in seasoned oil so they are probably a little more infused with flavour from oregano and garlic. I’ll make a note about that on the recipe and suggest adding some oregano if you’re using unseasoned tomatoes.
Just made the green lentil with olives version- sooooo good!!!!

I am trying to get a receipe without Tahini it seems that flavor isn't our favorite... any subs?
