LEARN HOW TO MAKE THE BEST LENTIL PATTIES THAT ARE AMAZING FOR BURGER RECIPES!
LAY HO MA (how's it going in Cantonese)! Brace yourself for an epic burger just in time for the nice weather! Join me in this episode and learn how to make an extraordinary lentil patty recipe that won't fall apart!
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups red lentils
2 pieces garlic
1 red onion
2 carrots
20g cilantro
1 tsp + pinch salt
1 tsp sweet paprika
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1 1/2 cups avocado oil
1/3 cup tahini
3 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp za'atar
burger buns to serve
micro greens to serve
sliced pickles to serve
Directions:
1. Pre-soak the red lentils in water for 2-3 hours or bottle about 3 cups of water in a kettle and soak the red lentils in the hot water for about 30mins
2. Peel 2 pieces of garlic. Roughly chop half of the red onion, carrots, and cilantro. Rinse and drain the red lentils, then add to a food processor. Add the red onions, carrots, garlic, cilantro, 1 tsp salt, sweet paprika, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Blend for about 30 seconds, scrape down the sides, and blend for another 30 seconds
3. Scoop about a 1/3 cup of mixture at a time and shape them into patties. Once you're done shaping the patties, refrigerate them for a few minutes. Add the avocado oil to a frying pan and heat on a little under medium heat for a few minutes. If you stick a bamboo chopstick into the oil and there are fast moving bubbles, it's ready!
4. Very carefully place in the first batch of lentil patties. Fry them for 3-4mins, then very carefully turn them over. Let them cook for another couple of minutes, then very carefully transfer them onto a cooling rack. Repeat with the second batch
5. Make the sauce by combining the tahini, lemon juice, a pinch of salt, and za'atar. If the sauce is too thick, add a little bit of water. If the sauce is too thin, add a little bit of tahini
6. Toast the burger buns and thinly slice the other half of the red onion. Assemble the burgers with the micro greens, lentil patties, red onions, the delicious sauce, and some pickles

You are the master of plant based food and I really appreciate your videos, it's relaxing in a very clean kitchen. Thank you
Wow! So nice of you ☺️
Love your recipes!!!!!!!!!!
I followed this recipe exactly --- everyone loved them. The meat eaters in the group even raved about them too. Everybody liked the slight char on the patty because it was similar to the way it is "when you barbecue meat patties." I added this recipe to My Favorites and Crowd Favorites list.
I'm very happy to see that Vitamix is supporting Yeung Man Cooking. It is such a good fit. High quality! My Vitamix is my absolute favorite kitchen tool.
*Other nice people with varying skillsets share their recipes on TH-cam, but Will Yeung is a master. Beautifully photographed too.*
He is a professional photographer 😊
Today I discovered your channel and instantly got connected with the content. Your calm demeanor plays impeccable impact in this noisy TH-cam world.
You cook quite close like Indian cooking and also plant based. It's great 👍
Welcome and happy you are here. Keep well 🙌🏻
@@YEUNGMANCOOKING thanks for replying 🙏
I'm glad ,I found you it about how I cook with chickpeas do with it so I'm find you boy am I happy, I love
your cooking awesome wow. People give me 8. canned of chickpeas oh my goodness 😮.
Nice recipe! I usually find background music distracting, but yours is lovely and peaceful, like you are, thank you 💗
Glad to hear that feedback ☺️
These lentil burgers are FANTASTIC, Wil!
There are a few things that I can't stand mushy: Pasta, asparagus and veg burgers!
I've been searching for a vegan burger that isn't mushy for a very long time! Many promise that they're not mushy, but when you make them, you find that they are! So I'm grateful to have found a recipe that truly does a grand job of mimicking the texture of ground meat.
I did add a handful of walnuts and a 1/2 Tbsp of ground flax to the food processor. And a bit of your lovely and fragrant homemade chili oil to the avocado oil I put in the pan! That stuff is great on everything/anything!
Thanks for all of your well thought out and easy to follow recipes! I'm really enjoying making and eating them!!😉
I know what I'm making for dinner tonight and enough to freeze. It's so perfect for my careful diet managing autoimmune disease AND easy on the mangled hands. [Virtamix rocks!]
Are you doing an anti-inflammatory diet or something more? Still figuring this out. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia on the way to an inflammatory arthritis diagnosis which is autoimmune. I got rid of gluten and seldom need pain medication now but time to go further.
Happy cooking 😎

I used an air fryer. Virtually no fat and tastes great. My fryer is small so it takes a little longer to cook them all but they freeze really well.
I'm going to do the same.
Healthy fats are critical.. not this garbage!
Do you do it at 400 F? how long ? Thank you :)
I cooked them in the air fryer for 15mins @200, they were ok but was thinking they might be better pan fried
@@tommyj7766 thank you !
Every recipe I’ve cooked from this channel has been successful - no waste, no having to tweak and try again. Will try this next week I know *with confidence* it will be delicious. Thank you!
I am smitten with this recipe, which I tweaked by adding in golden raisins and fresh ginger. I also made the patties, then steamed them 20 minutes, cooled and fried. I felt that helped with a flavor that struck me as 'raw'. I've eaten the patties topped with fresh avocado but also look forward to other creamy toppings. Delicious, easy and protein packed! Thank you Will for this recipe and your always mellow videos. I'll be ordering the sushi class!
Not Vegan but actually prefer veggie burgers to anything else. I could live on them and this is going to be another one of my go to recipes. Thank you!
Wil, you always make the best healthy and very delicious recipes✨💯
So glad to hear you are enjoying 🙌🏻
I'm eating lentil dahl as I watch this. Sometimes I turn the last of the pot of soup into burgers for variety. You inspired me. Thanks.
Great idea! 🙌🏻
I just love Will and his channel. I have two of his cookbooks and everything is always excellent. Thank you Wil for being such a superstar! ❤ I am grateful for you and your channel.
Oh wow! You are amazing and so glad to hear how much you are enjoying. Keep well and happy cooking 🙌🏻
Just made these for dinner! OMG!!! LOVE THE FLAVOR AND TEXTURE!😋 TFS
🙌🏻🥳 Amazing!
Making my second batch! It also makes great taco crumbles!
Ooo! Sounds like a great idea 🌮 Will have to give that a go
Thanks for the fantastic recipe! I love to add walnuts or hemp seeds to patties like this, usually adding them to the blender right at the end to leave some texture.
Sounds great! 👌🏻
That is the best recipe ever Yeung keep up the fantastic work also you have a fantastic day 😊
Very kind of you 🙌🏻 Enjoy your day
@@YEUNGMANCOOKING thanks Yeung
Another scrumptious recipe it looks absolutely delish can't wait to make it, you truelly are an amazing chef.
I'm trying not to eat anything with wheat flour, so I made patties double portion: half in the oven 200C 20-25min and half fried on coconut oil (2 Tsp) 4-5 minutes each side medium-high flame. Accompanied with cooked buckwheat. Delicious! Thank you again for another great recipe!!!
Simple ingredients. Careful prepping and cooking. Delicious Results As always!
OMG, it is midnight here in Spain and I want to get up and make these. Avocado oil costs a bloody fortune here in Spain, I will try these in my airfryer. THANKS…,.zzzzzz
Hahha, late night snack perhaps? 😎 All good to use a preferred frying oil (or air fryer 🙌🏻)
all oil these days cost a fortune....a normal size olive oil in glass now 20$ where I live...in Italy I used to buy one for 3euro and it was fresh and not refined..
@@YEUNGMANCOOKING Thanksforthereply.
@Bergantin23 What?!? Bed at midnight? You should just be finishing dinner in Spain! 😂 Actually, though, after 7 years here we give up. All of our friends know we can’t hang with the 10pm cena…
Made these today and the flavor is exceptional. I did add some bob’s redmill cassava and almond flour as a binder. I soaked my lentils several and even though I drained them for about an hour I felt they would not hold together. Kept their shape and were so good. Love your recipes! Takes WFPB recipes to the next level!!
Your voice is so soothing. I watch your videos at night to help me fall asleep... then I watch them again the next day and take notes. 😊
I'm glad you find them relaxing 😊
Mouth watering literally. I'm going to try a baked version of this. Thanks !!
Sounds great 🙌🏻 Enjoy
These are SOOOO good, even my picky kids gobbled them up. Im now making and freezing them so i can have them on hand when i need a quick meal
Thank you so much for these truly amazing, yet simple, recipes.
fantastic. love that you included zatar
I cook up the veggies with seasoning and blend them up with the lentils. I pretty much use any veggies I have on hand that need to be used up. Broccoli, peppers, kale, carrots etc.
I add some baked potato, flax "egg" and oat flour to help bind the lentils together. Sometimes I make them more Italian flavors, others a classic American breakfast sausage flavor (which is brown sugar and sage + any other spices you prefer).
Also, it helps to drain the lentils really well after cooking, makes it easier to form into patties.
Thanks for the tips!
Doesn't that make them unto a totally different vegan burger 🤔?
Tried your tips and came out well - thanks for contributing in the comments!
That looks AMAZING. YOU ARE SPOT ON FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO. THANKYOU.
These lentil patties are great. I don't have a vitamix, so I shredded the carrots everything else said "yes" to my hand held blender. The recipe made a lot of patties so I enjoyed some and have a bunch in the freezer for quick meals on another day. Thanks Will, you are my favorite on line cooking show.
Glad it worked out and keep well! 🙌🏻
These patties would be delish alongside some creamy mashed potatoes 😋 Thank you Wil for this recipe ❤
Made these today - very delicious, hearty and healthy! I look forward to making again.
I've been making this for almost 2 years now but I add some cubes of boiled potatoes into the food processor along with some onions, garlic, dill and parsley and after all when needed add some soft rusk into the mix but we don't like it softly minced like yours, we like it more with texture of everything in it
Thank you for making the recipe alive to anyone who haven't think of it before🙏😊
Easy right. These yummy chick peas patties. I have to make this
I just made this recipe including the sauce!!! So very yummy!!! Thank you!!😋😋
Glad you liked it!! 🙌🏻
I made these last night, and oh my Lord, they are good. Thank you so much, Yeung
😄🙌🏻 So glad to hear!
love your channel, such a great source of inspiration
Can't wait to try this! I have a ton of dry red lentils that need a home. Just in time for summer- Thanks for this!❤
Perfect 🙌🏻
Thank you. I have been using lentils in your black bean burger recipe for a year now. Black beans and black lentils. I will be interested in trying this. My kids love them and I am so thankful for your videos.
That sounds great! 🙌🏻🥳
Saludos from Southern Mexico Yeung Man, I've been cooking since 1964, since I was 12 and love exploring new recipe ideas. Of course I take a mad scientist approach to cooking so I might alter the spicing and since you said the patties were bakeable Perhaps in a slightly lower oven with ghee. I do love lentils but I've never had falafel. as you've probably guessed I don't enjoy frying. Xie Xie for the ideas Jacques Mexico Retired and loving it.
Just made it and it is delicious 🤤. No bun, it’s great just with the sauce❤
Great to hear! 🙌🏻🍔
Your the best, your calm, your way the handle the food, wauw Thank you so much

Trying these today. Feeling confident! Because every recipe Will presents is a winner. Vinaka.

Thanks for detailing the timming feature of the vitamix. It is always helpful to know what the outstanding features are of the products you advertise.
i love how simple and easy your videos are. I made some of your recipes already and they are easy to follow and taste amazing! Even my non vegan friends enjoy them
The foods you teach are great.❤

Made these patties today, so delicious!!! Thank you 🙏🏻🌱
Glad you like them! 🥳
Absolutely enchanted by you & your recipes.
Keep up the great work.
Looks super tasty. I love that you are doing nice comfort food recipes 🌻
Made some of these, they're pretty great. Although I had a small problem, my mix was too wet to comfortably handle. I added some flour to help. I'll definitely be making more of these, and I think next time I may add some shiitake mushrooms, too.
Thanks, Yeung Man!
I made these on the weekend. Delicious and tasty burger patties. They could also be made into balls for a sub or pasta dish. Thanks for recipe and instructions Yeung Man
I love how versatile they are! 🙌🏻
Definitely will prepare this (but, without the Vitamix, 😥😪). I'm trying to make smaller amounts because my husband usually won't eat healthy foods. I have loved so many dishes you have shown on your channel. Thank you for not only sharing your recipes, knowledge, and creativity but your calm demeanor is so soothing to me.
Love this channel!
Oh Will, definitely trying this on the weekend 😋. Thank you ❤
Enjoy! 🙌🏻😎
All your recipes are delicious, these burgers have a great flavor, I froze them and they are very delicious, easy to make.
Wooo! Awesome to hear 🙌🏻
Mmm they look delicious ⭐️
They are tasty for sure 🙌🏻
That was super easy. I tried the cauliflower rice and me and family LOVED it. I wasn’t in the kitchen long at all, which I loved. Thanks!
Sounds great! 💕
I have all 3 cookbooks and love them! Also took the sushi master class, it was awesome!
So glad to hear you enjoyed and happy to be cooking together 🙌🏻👨🏻🍳
I baked these patties and they were very good.
Glad to hear 🙌🏻
Thank you for sharing your delicious recipes with us. Asian cooking is intimidating when you haven't done much of it, so your videos are very helpful! I plan begin collecting your cookbooks, soon. 😋
That is so lovely to hear ☺️
So healthy and delicious. Thanks to share you recipes
You are very welcome! 😊
You are an amazing young man with these wonderful recipes. This one is on my list.
Perfecto! 🙌🏻👨🏻🍳
These were so delicious...it was easy to make. Definitely on my regular menu. Thank you so much. I would have taken a picture but I ate them through our the week.
❤Thank you 🙏 for that recipe .
My pleasure 😊
My mouth is watering! Now I need to go shopping for the ingredients .....................
Will try 👍 Thank you, Yeung❣️💜
Looks absolutely delicious. I will try to make some for myself. Thank you for your post and you’re very forward to videos.
Enjoy! 🥳
Your recipes look so amazing.
You rock 🙌🏻
Thanks Wil for this recipe. Which cookbook has this recipe?
They looks delicious one question as I can’t have fried can be cooked in the oven ? Thank you
Wonderful recipe! Especially for someone trying to stay vegetarian. Thank you!
My pleasure 😊
Yum looks soooo good! OFC frying is extra delicious but do you think airfrying the patties would work too?
Love your channel because you wrote all the ingredients and directions. I’ve been wanting a blog like yours. I’m glad you just pop out while l’m searching the recipe to cook. ❤
So great to hear ☺️ Happy cooking and enjoy 🙌🏻
I will.definitely do you a solid and try this recipe. Thank you.
Looking forward to hearing what you think 🙌🏻😎
Okay, I tried it.
Came out pretty good. My burgers fell apart a bit. I had a second go at it and I put them in the freezer before frying. That came out much better. I saw in some other videos the removal of excess water from ingredients, I may have had a bit much water. Anyway once I froze them, then they stayed together. They stuck to the plate in the freezer but I released them by heating the plate a bit with a bit of stray heat from a burner...
I'll be dling this often, I think...
Maybe try parchment paper on the plate next time. Thanks for the tip about freezing them instead of just putting in the frig!
@@Sheri... I may try parchment and then bake in oven. That might be more scalable too as I can do six or eight... wereas my pan can only take 2 or 3
When I seen this recipe I just had to make it. Your recipes are always excellent and easy. I would love to have the vita mix processor maybe one day I will get one.
Will, This looks amazing. So crispy. Does the center stay soft or does it cook through? Thank you!!!
It will cook all the way through, just be sure the patties aren’t too thick 👌🏻
Just found you and plan to keep following you, thank you, will try the recipe.
Welcome and happy cooking 🙌🏻
Great recepie!
Making that tonight!
Thank you!
Hope you enjoy 🙌🏻😎
Love red lentils, definitely trying this!
Woooo! You are in for a treat 🙌🏻🍔😎 Enjoy!
Look forward to trying them!😍
I definitely will try your lentil burger., I have lentil burgers in my fridge now that I swore were the best recipe but I like the Cilantro you added along with the veggies which are soo basic and in my fridge. I have plently of red lentils so I will have no problems trying these burgers! Have a good weekend and a great Father's day if you celebrate it on the same day we do in the U.S.A..
I have a Vitamix blender but my food processor is a Cuisinart. I'm not sure if it would work as well? Maybe if I chopped up the other ingredients a little finer it would be okay? Looks like a great recipe! Thanks!.
I'm going to use mine. I'd use the slicing blade to cut up the carrot and then the regular blade....I'm sure it will do just fine. Fingers crossedXXX
This looks phenomenal and I cannot wait to get all my ingredients to put this together. Thank you❤️
Looks easy to make. I'll definitely be making this soon. 😁
Woooo! 🙌🏻😎 You are in for a treat
Yes, these were absolutely delicious. First time having them and now permanent. Excellent job Chef Yeung! Keep them rolling and we roll with you😊 OMG, have to do some more..
So amazing to hear how much you enjoyed 🙌🏻😎
Great Recipe!! I was just telling a friend that your recipes have been tried and true thus far. I was wondering if you can do a mung bean recipe. I've tried and failed, but I'd really like to try it again with a recipe that I trust. Thanks for your videos!
So glad to hear and will keep that in mind for future episodes 👌🏻
This seems to be a great recipe. Thank you. Can I use just regular lentils?
This looks totally doable for a newbie to making plant based patties. Also have never cooked with lentils so that’s awesome as well.
Wooo! Wonderful! You are in for a treat 🙌🏻
Yum yum everything you make looks Amazing and easy ! Thank you!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥇🥇💕💕
