  • BIG day for the Chevelle as we install the 6 piston Wilwood Disc Brakes on the front. First time working with this kit and i must say it was a pretty straight forward installation.

    I have the same kit I’m installing on a 68 Chevelle. Bought new summit racing spindles for the car that are designed for 68-72 chevelles disc brake replacement but I am having the worse time getting it together. When I get the hub flush with the spindle, the bottom bolt for the caliper bracket is making contact with the screws for the rotor/hub assembly. Been going back and forth disassembling and changing shims not just can’t find the correct setup.

    I’m putting the same kit together for a 65 Mustang and in figure 4 it shows the rotor and rotor adapters flipped the other way but in photo five, it shows the rotor and rotor adapter the same way you installed it. I’m not sure which way to orient it…

    • @MrGriffin23
      @MrGriffin23  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Should be areas in the rotors. Should be pointed towards the front of car.

    How are you liking the performance of the wildwoods? I'm shopping around for brake upgrades on my 69 GTO. Would you do anything differently?

    • @MrGriffin23
      @MrGriffin23  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So far so good. They seem to be performing well. I did have some issues with my rear brake set-up. My calipers would not align due to a spacer in the kit being too thick. So I had to find a place to mill them down. I heard they make additional spacers if needed.
      Also, if you are considering an e-brake you might have issues with the install. My buddy and I had similar issues with the wheels hanging up due to the ebrake sticking. I ended up sanding the inner part of the drum and lightly scuffing the pads and that free’d them up.

    What size master cylinder and brake booster did you go with. I have same setup on my 69 gto and running 1-/8" master cylinder with 11" gm booster and cannot lock the wheels up. Also Had the same issue with wilwood rear parking brake dragging. After about 8 calls to wilwood someone finally admitted they have issues with them and they re-engineered some pads to fix the issue... After they sent me the new pads problem solved. All depends on who you get on the phone as to how helpful the customer service is.

    • @MrGriffin23
      @MrGriffin23  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Geez! You would think they would have resolved this earlier. This has been ongoing for quite sometime. They straight up told my boy that they encourage their customers not to get the kit with the ebrake due to the issues.
      I have the newest version Wilwood MC with a 1” bore.

    Can you use the 15 inch factory wheels?

    • @MrGriffin23
      @MrGriffin23  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not think so. I think is 16” or bigger, but I have to reference my Wilwood literature to be sure.

    • @MrGriffin23

    • @DrStickyTits
      @DrStickyTits ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you find a big difference over stock? I plan on keeping the rear drums for now…I guess you got the zinc coated rotors any benefit over just the slotted and drilled?

    • @MrGriffin23
      @MrGriffin23  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DrStickyTits My car was just a roller before so I never drove it. However, I did go drilled and slotted on my SUV from regular disc. Just normal driving I can really tell any difference, but I’m sure there is as far as cooling purposes.
