  • In this video we attack the front end again to install a set of Viking Coilovers for a 71 Chevelle Abody. Pretty straight forward for the most part. Please watch in its entirety, drop a comment and leave a like as well. Subscribe if you'd like.

    Thanks! Now I'm going out to the garage to install mine. I've got the same set up for my 69 SS.

    Looks real good! I decided to go with Viking myself because they are double adjustable. They are the same price as QA1 single adjustable. Viking also comes with the spanner wrench.

    Getting ready to do same thing with mine. Try getting the kit from CPP but it's a 6 week wait for the control arms. So I got the Vikings 450 shocks like yours but had to go with speedway control arms. Waiting on some warm weather and I'm going to get started. Thanks for video and tips. Car looks amazing

      Thanks for tuning in. Yeah, getting parts right now is hard. I waited 8 weeks for my coil over set-up. Keep me posted and thank you!

    Bought QA1 coil overs Watched their install video and was like wtf? Found your video and I’m ready to tackle this job. QA1 should watch your video and learn how to show someone how to do a coil over install.

    How did you pick the spring rate that is pounds per inch of compression? PS: Brake fluid DOT is mineral oil and washes easy with water only. Hose or wet rag will do. Just don’t get it on paint because it may lift or discolor. Interesting, as a dealer tech we are not around these! ASE Master 78

      @MrGriffin23  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you for info on Brake fluid. As far as spring rate I just did some research before hand. Seemed like most folks were fine with a 450 spring rate for most engine set-up and small blocks.

      @@MrGriffin23 That 450 pounds per inch, so 3” = 1,300 pounds per side. I have a 67 C10, iron LS 5.3L with A/C. The old GM axial six compressor is 42lbs alone. Add P/S, Brake booster and dual master (iron) condenser, receiver/dryer or accumulator with lines, aux trans cooler with fluid, electric cooling fans (X2) it add up quickly. I will call customer service for suggestion as they advise springs loaded to 1/3rd of free height and adjustment nut up 1/3 from bottom. The placed the shock in the middle or a 10” spring. Just curious as not racing just daily driving with 2003 internal with Body Control Module, cruise, lock-out protection, power window, theft, etc. I love wiring.
      Thanks for your info.

      @@deankay4434 I think you would still be fine. Although yours is a truck, I have all that under the hood and full supercharger kit accessories, blower and mine still rides great. But wouldn’t hurt to call them as well.

  • @turkeyssr
    @turkeyssr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow! That's nice. Tells us more. Will it lower the ride height at all? Can you use only coil-overs in the front and leave the back stock? (I have progressive springs on my '83 Impala that I really like to keep the back a little high; the stock springs caused the back to drag when I have 3 friends in the back) Keep it up!

    • @MrGriffin23
      @MrGriffin23  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have 0-2” height adjustment. O is stock and then I can lower from there. Yes, you can leave the rear stock if needed.

    I’ve got the same set up on my monte. I’m sorta sweating how much travel I have left in the strut itself. About two fingers wirth with weight on the car (450lb) and about 3in in the rear. Mine are 2-3” drop coilovers. Question is…how much of the strut is showing on yours, how much SHOULD be showing

    • @MrGriffin23
      @MrGriffin23  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for reaching out. I’ve always been told that your want it to sit as close to the middle as possible. +/- an inch. That will give you the best ride and help from bottoming out and compromising the strut.

    Great video thank you. Should there be a steel plate between the coil over shock and the lower control arm to make it stronger? I’ve seen them for sale.

    • @MrGriffin23
      @MrGriffin23  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are welcome! On some lower control arms yes, that plate is needed. These ones are built for Coilovers.

    • @MrGriffin23

      450. Should be good for my set-up now. Once I go Supercharged then I’ll see how it does. Easy fix if I want to change them out to 500 or 550.
