    Now even though the JBL Flip 6 isn’t a HUGE upgrade from the JBL Flip 5… the additional tweeter on the Flip 6 does help it sound more open. And in general… tweeters on a portable 20 watt bluetooth speaker are pretty rare. But today we’re going to compare the Flip 6 to two very popular 20 watt speakers. First there’s the Bose Soundlink flex which is just universally loved right now… and then there’s the Sony XB23… which is a really good budget option. But nonetheless… lets see which ones right for you.

    Amazing and thorough review, but in a clear and concise manner! I love that you cover parts of the speaker with your hands, and that you seamlessly compare the sounds during the same song. I enjoyed this so much and just purchase the Flip 6. Thank you!

    Great video! Sadly no one ever mentions what made me order the Bose... When speaking of a portable speaker i want to be able to throw it in my bag with all my other things when i travel and the Bose is the only one here without exposed elements that can be damaged easily. I have a JBL extreme but I'm so scared to have something damage the sides!

    I have been using Sony XB23 for a few years now. It is still my favorite speaker due to the fact It is a stereo speaker and has the warmest most natural and pleasing frequency range perfect for instrumental jazz, acoustic music etc. I use 5 speakers in different rooms at the same time party linked at home and never get tired of the sound even playing music entire day. They are positioned vertically and running in the stereo mode. Each speaker has two channels you get a vertical stereo which gives a very interesting effect. The bass is outstanding and I actually played them on a minimum bass set up using Sony EQ. Ability to switch between mono and stereo mode on the speaker makes a huge difference for me and I hear big difference in separation of instruments both in vertical and horizontal position. So far I tested every speaker I could both ordering them and in the stores and I could not find anything that has more relaxing and natural sounding frequency range especially when listening on small to medium volume levels.
    My new favorite for a micro size speaker is EWA A106 which is perfect for biking, exercising outdoors or boating. It replaces larger speakers and saves lot of space. It is a mono speaker but surprisingly delivers almost a stereo sounding spectrum. I always use a 432 player to make sound even warmer.
    Thanks for great reviews!

    • @Norvik_-ug3ge
      @Norvik_-ug3ge 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for that 'mini review' as I am considering getting the Sony SRS-XB23, and, like you do, I appreciate stereo sound and quality, over loudness and bass. How much better is the sound over a (quality) smartphone's speakers?

    • @AtlantaFlamencoPro
      @AtlantaFlamencoPro 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're welcome, there are no even remotely sounding like any smartphone speakers. Up to a moderate volume they sound more like a high-end hi-fi stereo system. If you pair them as a stereo couple and position in the corners of the room they fill the whole room with a beautiful warm sound. I have 7 of them and they have never failed me. My favorite settings are to adjust the EQ on the Sony app bass all the way down and treble 2 notches up. I suspect that they have some sort of DSP harmonic generator for the base similar to professional musician plug-ins that simulates bass so that they have literally too much bass in regular setting at least for my ear. in this size category I have not heard any better sounding speakers. If I use them in a single mode I usually use vertical position which creates interesting vertical stereo separation. The best is to play in different positioning inside of the room and see what works the best for you. Any smartphone speakers sound thin and annoying comparing to Sony SRS-XB23. Try to play the music through 432 player to get the warmer sound.
      Best regards!@@Norvik_-ug3ge

      @osmanonder7343 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i tested both speakers xb23 and flip 6 in technology store. flip 6 have more bass but i liked xb23 sound.
      On xb23, instruments could be heard in more detail while listening to jazz and instrumental music. Xb23 is stereo but flip 6 is mono and also soundlink flex is mono.

    • @AtlantaFlamencoPro
      @AtlantaFlamencoPro 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I think that any more bass than XB23 is too much in regular listening and I EQ it actually in Sony app to minimum. My main consideration was if I am able to listen entire day at home to streaming instrumental music mostly jazz and smooth jazz and still remain relaxed. Any other speaker I tried made me tired since it felt restricted in frequency range plus sounded harsh and compressed. Interesting feature I noticed is that somehow the DSP and membrane construction allows bass notes to be heard even in the lowest range and it seems to be impossible with such small speakers. Even standup bass which is a very difficult to reproduce on small speakers can be heard very clearly when listening with lower volume. To my ear the DSP changes parameters dynamically with volume so cranking up to maximum reduces the range to preserve the clarity and protect the speaker from overloading.
      I only listen to low and medium volume so I really appreciate projection and clarity. Stereo also makes a big difference for me. The fact that some speakers can get louder in dB doesn't make any difference since they get compressed in high volumes. Working in my own studio and many others my entire life and listening only lower to medium volumes helped me to retain sensitivity to frequencies. Now I only mix and master with Neumann NDH 20 headphones set to low or medium volumes.
      Somehow Sony hit the sweet spot for me and I also use these speakers outdoors for party background music, boating or exercising in the park. They work great as well.
      One thing I learned from many musicians is that no matter what are the numbers on the specs only your own ears can tell you the truth and once you learn the speaker and the environment you will use it as a baseline.
      So it is a very relative experience after all. Going back to what I said earlier the main factor for any speaker right now is if I can listen to it entire day without getting tired. @@osmanonder7343

    nice video but i have to question you stating all three have zero latency. i guess you mean zero visible latency? i wonder how you test for this. personally i have measured both the xb23 and flip 6 at 120ms latency for youtube which for me is not good.

      @reddyuda 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      IDK how to measure latency but I have had my Bose Flex for 2 weeks and used it for gaming, netflix, youtube, etc. and zero detectible latency. The sound profile is awesome, very mellow full bodied sound. Have used it several times blasting music at work for 12+ hours and very non-fatiguing to listen to. Everyone is knocking Bose's decision to stick with Bluetooth 4.1 but the sound quality is great, range is awesome, and no latency from what I can tell.

    If i carefully listen to the sound test using my headphones, I can confidently say that, the sound from JBL and Sony feels like it is coming from an enclosure. But sound from bose doesn't feel like it is coming from an enclosure. I also checked the same from some other youtube reviews with same comparison. The result is same. Bose sound doesn't feel like it is coming from a small blutooth speaker. Anyway, this is my take from this comparison.

    I have both sony xb23 and flip6.. i feel Sony XB23 is more on neutral sound with Excellent Sterio effect as sound is feels surround 360 effect and i realy like it (eq setting base-2, mid+3or +4 and trebble +1 or +2) thats it no need to adjust anything or just keep on clear+ in app.
    Compare with JBL , Sony gets muffled in 80% volume but thats common and has less bass than JBL but better battery life around 7+ hrs(70% volume)..didn checked jbl battery life.
    About JBL - Around 30% more audio volume than XB23.The music is more bass effect than actual and more trebble feels. You need to lower bass for some music for get good audio...but this speaker no need any equalizer adjustment just play n enjoy.
    Technically
    SONY XB23- Good SOUNDSTAGE than JBL, STERIO SOUND(2×2 channel output) , Has better codec support for high quality audio -SBC AAC LDAC.( listen in LDAC its realy makes every beat more detail and clear than JBL)
    CON- Low thumping Bass is as compared to JBL. Xtra base option must be ON for good audio.
    JBL - Bassy woofer thumping base than Sony XB23, Better instrument sepration but overthumping highs as JBL want to show twwitter speaker
    ,30W RMS.
    Con- Outdated codec support only SBC. NO MIC.. Mono audio as Sony XB23 has Sterio.

    I think soundstage and instrument separation is really only important to headphones. I think most people will prefer bass over soundstage on a portable Bluetooth speaker bc these devices are usually used for parties (where the more the bass, the better), rather than for home and studio use (where the wider the soundstage, the better). But there are some exceptions if your party is full of audiophiles =)

    • @edcipriani8873

      Bingo, you nailed it with your comment that most people prefer strong bass, or even to the point of too strong of a bass response. I love bass response as well, but I want the mids and highs to be represented as well, and when the bass is too strong it eclipses the other ranges.

    speaking of speaker watt, are sony have 20 watt each speaker? or 20 watt at both?

  • @rohan8695
    @rohan8695 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    believe me when i say that they both should not even be compared. i honestly have no idea why so many youtubers say they are both almost the same. after watching these kinda nonsense comparison videos i went with the flip 6 since it was cheaper but i was extremely dissapointed by the flip6. almost no base and it produces a very bad ear piercing sound i couldnt even bare to increase the volume past 60 % that bad. so i returned it and got the bose soundlink flex and man am i satisfied. the sound is so rich and open and like everyone says you can actually FEEL the base. only downside are the buttons and the average battery life around 7 hrs even tho bose claims 12. so go with the bose or try another speaker but do not get the flip 6 !
    ps. dont get the blue one

    IT’S LONG BUT PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS.
    Just a thought on the JBL Flip 6 vs the Bose SoundLink Flex. They are the same size and according to the internet the bose has a larger transducer than the JBL but the JBL has a tweeter and an adjustable equalizer within the app where as at this time on the bose connect app there is not an equalizer to adjust the sound. But I have another bose speaker and it uses a different music app and it runs on the bose msuic app and in the bose music app it has an equalizer so you can adjust the bass and the treble to your liking. And in the JBL portable app you can do the same thing except you can also adjust the mid-range. Bose could add an EQ to there app in the future/near future. Bc I read on the internet that when the JBL flip 6 was released it did not have an adjustable eq within its app for its speakers. But now it has an eq in the app. I think with the equalizer off on the JBL the bose sounds better but with the eq on I think the JBL sounds better. So if bose added an equalizer that could change things. I know the speaker has position IQ technology where it’s supposed to adjust the sound depending on which way you lay it but it would be nice to be able to turn that off if you wanted to. A similar portable speaker called the sonos roam has a similar feature but in the sonos s2 app you can turn that feature off. In the bose app you cannot do that or on the speaker itself either. And also Sonos has an adjustable EQ within the app like the JBL. The bose is behind the times with that but I bet they’ll change for the better. I would turn position IQ off and have an equalizer set to my liking if I could. I prefer my bose soundlink flex to sit upright so it’s pointing at me but they say it will produce more bass if you lay it flat, in my testing this is true. A little more bass for sure. Which I like. But I shouldn’t have to lay it flat to get maximum bass output. And the speaker needs better rubber feet on it because sometimes it will move it self. Or vibrate itself off the table. So I would recommend not placing it near the edge of a table if you don’t have to. Thank you for whoever actually takes the time to read this.

      And this is nothing to do with passive radiators but rather with cheap main driver that has horrible boosted tuning, this speaker is unfortunately not worth even a 100$ because there are speakers like Tribit max sound plus which completely wipe the floor with Bose for 50$.
      Even the new jbl flip 6 sounds much better and not even talking about VIFA Helsinki which is similar in size but is still after 5 years the best sounding speaker ever made in that size and being louder than Jbl xtreme 3 with more kick...👊

    That jbl flip sounds very nice. Almost as if there's a good quality dolby atmos already in it. The Bose sounds booming but too muffled from the tests. JBL might be the way to go. Sony should just stick to headphones. It also depends on what device it's connected to. If you're using an iphone, it won't sound as great. Music sounds 5 times better on a good android, especially one of the new samsungs, even on eardbuds it's a night/day difference.

    The Sony is my choice here. The Sony has a true stereo and the firmware does not downsample the audio to turn it to joint-stereo. It is true natural Stereo. You can switch Mono/Stereo which a great feature if you want to set up a complex multi channel sound. The firmware prioritize clarity and natural sound to peak volume which I like.
    While the JBL is more of a cheating device. The BOSE is more bass oriented.
    Also, the X23 build quality is outstanding.

    The Bose is a one trick pony, whereas the flip 6 can be tweaked with its EQ to suite all music, and it really makes a difference. I love my Bose headphones with their noise cancelling, and our Revolve+ II is an awesome home speaker, but for lugging around picnics or on holiday, JBL got my cash, albeit slightly less due to Prime Day.
