I compared the JBL Flip 6, Marshall Emperton and Bose Soundlink Flex. All 3 were very impressive but I decided on the Flex because I could “feel” the bass.

I also have a Bose speaker but I prefer JBL Bose has a good quality and is very good in bass but it falter in mid and high frequencies. The Flip 6 doesn`t have the same bass level but sounds all in all more balanced and more mature - espacially at higher volume. Additional the JBL also has an manual equalizer. Than the housing of the Flip 6 isn`t as prone to scratches and dents than the housing of the Soundlink Flex is.

I have flip 6 and it sounds great playing every type of music. Crisp highs, clear midrange and a satisfying base for a small speaker. I’ve heard the Bose sound link flex and the difference wasn’t that noticeable for me to buy it.

The Bose flex is very cool in my opinion just got mine love that the EQ is available just by the way you position the speaker it activates Bose signature sound, mono, and surround (you'll hear it). The most impressive thing about Bose is that not only does it have EQ but it can change the range of sound on its own. For example if the song gets intense the volume goes up it's incredible

    • @saardean4481
      @saardean4481 2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

though it seems impressive i prefer to not have "self adaptive systems" tbh.
" if the song gets intense the volume goes up" -thats the purpose of mixing and mastering already. The song gets louder at the peak or better said it is lower until the peak and its mixed this way. I dont want a speaker additionally "improvising" and messing with the sound if you get me. This is why i gave away my Bose microlink micro. In the intro of many songs it automatically raises the volume and when the song really comes in then it goes into compression resulting in songs sounding sometimes even louder in the intro than after the first "drop". I really dont like this cause (again) it defeats the purpose of mixing and mastering.
But i am sure others will like it. Its just my opinion

I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.

Hey there ......great review..... One thing I'd like to mention, iv used the flip 4 extensively and my friend has used the Soundlink mini 2, the battery wear over the years on the flip 4 is much much faster than the bose. So whilst buying a portable speaker I would surely Keep that in mind. Even after replacing the battery from an authorized JBL service centre it was just not long lasting as the stock product. Just my personal experience. Hence I feel in that category bose does do well over jbl.

I went with the Flip 6 because here in Turkey the Bose Flex costs twice as much. No matter how much I prefer deep bass over everything else it was nonsense to pay double the price. I hope that the EQ Settings in JBL App can make up for the difference in bass, given that in stock mode the Bose’s basses sounds quite a bit better.

Great review! I was gifted a Bose Flex for Christmas by my boss! It is an excellent speaker! (Full disclosure, have a Bose audio ecosystem in my home. A couple of Soundtouch speakers, a pair of Bluetooth headphones for when I fly, a Soundwear Speaker companion and now the Flex). I also have a JBL Charge 3 that has been my "go to" speaker for sitting out on the back patio or going to the beach. The JBL has amazing battery life (20 hrs on a full charge) and decent sound. Recently as the weather has warmed up here (Queens, NY) I had the opportunity to take the Bose Flex out for it's first outdoor excursion. The sound was full with plenty of bass, and more than enough volume for our patio and shared courtyard. This summer it will make it to the beach for the annual family vacation. For the price point, low profile for portability, it is an ideal portable speaker. I was concerned initially about the 4.2 Bluetooth connectivity, but it has not been an issue. Thanks again for your in depth comparison and review.

The truth is that Flip 6 will sound more balanced, cleaner and better at higher volumes with better instrument separation than the Bose Soundlink Flex because of the JBL having a tweeter plus having a tweeter gives it a lot more flexibility when it comes to tweaking the sound as it’ll let you EQ the mids and lows without sacrificing the highs.

The Flex might be a hair cleaner/richer sound with a bit deeper bass but the JBL cranks, has an EQ and can pair with a lot of other JBL speakers. It’s really a hair splitting contest. I got the Bose Flex last week cause of several good reviews and owned a Mini II for years so I hoped for a similar experience. Unfortunately I got disappointed and send it back today. The overall sound mix/adjustment has too much emphasis on bass while highs and mids being damped in comparison to Mini II. This wasn't my main issue though but the horrible white noise when using it with low volume (I like a bit of ambient/chill background music while falling asleep).
I found some user feedback on this issue and seemingly it has technical reasons as to 'protect' the speakers. The Mini II also has it but the white noise is way less pronounced and I can only hear it like max 15-20cm away from my ears while with Flex it's really loud and I can still hear it even at 2-3m distance. I hope this isn't the standard for present portable speakers so let's see how the Flip 6 will fare. I'm also not a fan of automatic EQ but like to have manual control so maybe JBL is the better choice from the get-go.
I was just biased by the Mini II which had the perfect sound balance for me but didn't want to buy an obsolete model again (especially BT standard). Would have happily kept my Mini II but the battery suddenly doesn't want to charge anymore. Was a good companion for around 6 years though.

I also have one and the very first day I bought it I also heard that noise. The noise is mainly as a result of air leak from the little hole Bose put for the mic. So I had to do a teardown like removing only the top gril. It wasn't easy but I did and I took a very strong Adhesive and glued that little hole located at the left of the speaker close to the passive radiator. And who cares about the mic because am not going to use it anyway. So that noise was completely gone and the speaker sounded more better than at first

I have two Flexes, bought from different sources, and I have no white noise at all. I also find the position IQ works great. It gives basically 3 different sound profiles. Upright is the Bose signature “warm” profile with washed out treble (but somehow still maintaining clear vocals). I’m not a fan of this position. On its back there is a treble boost while still maintaining its low bass. I prefer this position the best. There are more instruments heard, particularly the snare drum and cymbals sound crisp and clear. Vocals are also clearer on its back. Even though the bass is still deep and present, it doesn’t over power the treble thanks to its boost. The third position is vertical (usually when hanging from its loop). It seems to be in between the other two. The only time I will do the upright position is if a track has overly high highs or at really loud volume levels (the treble gets a bit shrill at very high levels when on its back). But I don’t really ever listen to it that loud anyways and I recently bought a second one, so if I need it louder I’ll sync them up and do stereo. It gets very loud at just 50% with two.

I have had the opportunity to listen to both speakers, and I can say that the sound quality of both is excellent. Bosé brings out its typical Bosé sound, with that feeling that its bass felt broader, different from other brands; and not just the bass, the whole range of sound feels different in every Bosé product, anyone who appreciates good sound knows that it is its hallmark, it is why it is so appreciated and the sound as a whole has a quality of 10. The JBL Flip 6 has basses that are also of great quality, and I wouldn't classify them as inferior, but different, they are clearer, cleaner; the rest of the sound of the JBL Flip 6 also feels this way, very crisp mids and highs, very differentiated, it has an exceptionally balanced sound, more so than the Bosé. I wouldn't go so far as to say that one speaker has better sound than the other, because I think the rating depends on the use it is going to be put to. If you want a speaker more for portable use, to move it from here to there, I would say that the design of the JBL flip 6 is better, due to its cylindrical design, you can carry it in the bottle holder of a bicycle, it grips in a way natural by hand, and is best stored in any backpack; It is clearly a 100% portable and functional design that is more versatile, since you can place it and listen to it vertically, requiring no more base than the diameter of its cylinder. Plus it charges faster, it's easier to doing a portable use. The Bosé has a design that I would describe as wireless, in the literal sense of a speaker without the need for cables, but I don't think it has a portable design; I see it more as a desktop speaker, to have a wide base to place it, but it is not a versatile design, it does not give the game that the Flip 6, which you can place almost anywhere. The Bosé has the ability to take calls, but the Flip 6 does not, which also demonstrates the design intent of both. The Flip is for listening to music wherever you want, it makes it easy for you, listening to music, and picking it up intuitively, moving without the music cutting out simply thanks to the great range of its latest version of bluetooth. The Bosé, for a more serene use, have it in a more standard area, well placed near you, since its bluetooth does not reach more than 10 meters, take calls thanks to its microphone, even be able to connect it with a 3.5mm cable to the mobile or tablet without the need for bluetooth. I think these lines summarize well the impression that both products convey to me, both are excellent, but you have to know which of the two is made for you.

That was the first thing I thought to myself too. I also have a Flip 6 and when I set it up like this the bass drops noticeably, but that's understandable as a passive radiator can't work effectively. So sometimes I wonder if some people lack the basic knowledge for such reviews...

Lol no you are increasing the bass by placing it upright since his table is made mostly made or hardwood which vibrates more when the passive radiator is placed facing down onto the hardwood so it increases the bass if he placed the bose flat on its back passive radiator it would have had a lot more bass. So either way the jbl looses.

When you did the sound test you had the jbl vertical….Standing on one of its radiators. It isn’t allowing that radiator to push as much air. So I think the bass is compromised in that position. It is designed to be used flat. Your review is the only one that I have seen that has done the test vertical. I have the Charge 5 and I can tell you that the vertical position muffles the sound. Also, you should do a sound test outdoors….they are designed for outdoors.

I can't wait to upgrade to a more compact update that's just as effective in bass, superior in treble, and which will surely leave for the same lifespan.

Hi Rohan, thank you for your comment. If watched throughout this video should have made you choose the Bose at first as we highlight all the things you like about it. The reason we compared these two speakers is the reason you have bought both. Hope this helps.

sounds like the Bose Soundlink Flex would be the better choice for hip hop and electronic music in that case although I'm a little apprehensive due to the people in the comments saying it doesn't sound as good when you crank up the volume. also I'm not a huge fan of AI features that alter the sound that you can't turn off.

Not really. The tweeter gives the edge to the Flip 6 and it will definitely sound cleaner and better at higher volumes with better instruments separation plus having that tweeter gives it a lot more flexibility when it comes to the EQ.

I was hoping you were going to comment on the stereo linking of both. I have got the Bose but find the stereo linking really hit and miss Occasionally it works first time other times one can spend 30mins or more, or sometimes links then drops the link. That goes for stereo mode and party mode. Mono is easy to achieve and often defaults to mono for not obvious reason.I am not interested in using in mono so am sending them back But linking was unfortunately not part of your test. But thanks for the rest

The Bose app is til this day a catastrophe!!
I have 2x Microlink and what a drama to get them in stereo mode!!
      "Both speakers lost"
      "Ready to Connect"
Then one is suddenly off and so on. Not every time but way too often for my taste!

Great review guys , but I want to use this as sound system on my Bluetooth TV in my caravan so I can improve the sound on these small TVs when watching movies and live broadcasts. Which one would you select for my purposes. Thanks

Why are you testing the JBL standing on one end? You're blocking a good portion of the bass response. Anyone can become a TH-camr thats the real issue

i'd prob choose the JBL Flip 6 since i am a JBL Lover and their products are great! I have the Bose Soundlink mini II and it has the same bluetooth conectivity as the new one that you are reviewing. It was made in 2027 i believe.

Just heard the Bose flex yesterday . The JBL is great and loud but the Bose flex is just wow...amazing sound clarity and bass loud and even at lowest volume with the Bose flex !! if you want something you can enjoy music at any volume get the flex if you want something just loud then JBL .

I bought the Bose SF a few months ago. I noticed I could only charge it up to 80% Would never recharge to 100%. I tried everything. Plugged the USB charger straight into the wall, changed outlets around my house ( Kitchen & Living room) & never fully charged even @ 12 hours. I was disappointed because I've always liked Bose products but I returned it. :(

Clarity is important. The JBL has the eq ability that the Bose dies not have. So JBL bass can easily be brought higher and ultimately may be more robust than the Bose.

The VLC media player has a very good graphic equalizer, and transformed my Flip 5 to a much better sounding speaker.
This can be used on the Flex.

Same here, that EQ is indeed quite good. Using it for my Koss InEars as well.

      What are your EQ settings?

    • @lazer2365
      @lazer2365 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@You-sw7tm
The EQ settings vary depending on which style of music I'm listening to.
Rock is more level, reggae bass and treble higher and so on.
What I particularly like about the VLC EQ is that when adjusting it while listening to music, when a good mix is found, this can be given a name and saved.
So some can be for specific styles, and then some can be made which are more general, so will sound quite good for a mix selection.

how can you judge the sound quality of a speaker when the most important factor for you is how loud it gets?
